Hi All,

I'm trying to "plan" out some future training with my 3 month pup after the basics, and I'm wondering if anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area has had luck with finding agility training. Any recommendations? Non San Francisco residents are welcome to chime in :)

I'd love to get Jerry started on this both for him and me. From what I've seen, it seems like 6 months is the minimum age. Any opinions on this? It also looks like it's quite a costly training…

If not agility, any other favorite activities for your corgis?

Mishka and I are trying out a real agility class (as opposed to the 14 weeks of agility-for-fun classes we did a while back, and boy is it different!). This week we're working at the club's outdoor location, so the instructor has asked us to bring our own crates. Fortunately, the dog trailer for my bike can fold down and be used as a travel crate, so we're good for this weekend.

Looking ahead, though, if we were to continue in agility, I think it would be a good investment…

Looking ahead, though, if we were to continue in agility, I think it would be a good investment to get a separate soft-sided crate that is easier to move than the bike trailer behemoth.

Mishka is pretty average-sized for a corgi (hasn't budged from 29lbs in the last 6 months and he's almost 2 now), not a chewer, and would only be staying in the crate for short periods during class, and potentially longer periods outside at trials, if we get that far.

What do you folks use?

Do you prefer a light-colored crate or a darker one for outdoor trials (we are in sunny sunny CA).

Is a side door valuable in addition to a front door?

Should I get a pop-out shiny shade as well (like for a car windshield)?

Do any of you use those cooling gel mats?

What is your go-to outdoor corgi-containment system?

I've found a number of possibilities on Amazon, etc. with a range of prices and ratings, but as Mishka is my first dog, and this is my first time sorting containment logistics for weekly use, I'd really appreciate suggestions!

Our corgi, Pickles, naturally loves to jump on things, run up stairs, and run like the wind. We thought it might be a nice idea to get her involved in some agility training classes for fun. It's been a while, but I remember that our breeder told us that corgis should not jump off furniture or use stairs until 2 years old due to possible back problems.
Shiro is 8 months old and has no problems with stairs, but we try not to use them when possible. He is very active and agile and loves to go on hikes and jump over roots and branches. I think he will make an excellent agility dog, but how early can he start doing jumps? If it's not advised to jump now, what elements can he do?
He also jumps in and out the bathtub daily to get some water. Is that OK?
So along with the herding trials coming up...

I looked at Roxi.... she looked at me... I looked at Roxi and she said "Mom.. listen... Im athletic.. Im smart.. I like to learn new things... we both need to get out of the house more... sign me up for school." And then I looked at my jack&coke and realized I had drunk too much and went to bed.

So the next day I signed her up for agility classes. Something I've been thinking/wanting for a while now.
A little nervous but excited - Everything starts in October lol so my evenings will be crazy :) We're already taking a lot of time to train Charlie on obedience for the herding trial. He's coming along but I can just imagine that boy either fleeing for his life from the big white things or diving in and trying to get himself a lambchop.

Im scared I wont be able to keep up with Roxi in agility hahaha. Girl is just too darn fast.

Of course videos/pictures to come in a few months ;) Extracurricular Activitiestag:mycorgi.com,2008-04-16:1150197:Topic:892322008-04-16T00:15:52.861ZJu Lohttp://mycorgi.com/profile/JuLo
Has anyone tried classes with their Corgis other than just basic obedience? Did you little pup get his/her canine good citizen (CGC)? Have you tried Agility or Rally-O? Have you had your Corgi's herding instinct tested?

I thought this would be a fun thread for people to talk about their dog's activities, and possibly provide some education on the topic or a reference to places with good classes!
My Theo is still just a puppy, so I'm going to wait a few months before I delve into anything beyond basic obedience. But the place I go for obedience training also has agility, CGC testing, and some other classes of that nature. There's also a spot not too far from me where I can get Theo's herding instinct tested. It all sounds like so much fun, I can't wait until he's grown!
