His breeder told me he is supposed to be a black headed tri which is the color preference i prefer but ive noticed the color behind his ears are turning a slight red and some of the black on his face is losing its color. I was wondering if this is common or if hes going to be a red head? Hes already a family member forever but i was curious wheee this is going.

Evening Primrose Oil for Dogs- Dangerous?tag:mycorgi.com,2011-08-17:1150197:Topic:12397702011-08-17T02:59:30.097ZPotushttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Potus
Potus had to go to the vet last month due to suspicious black marks on his belly. They turned out to be relatively harmless black heads (Who knew dogs got blackheads?) but the vet warned us that if they become blocked that may lead to discomfort and soreness for Potus and he may have to go back to the vet to have them cleaned out (for Potus this means sedation- he is not a happy camper at the vets). One of the suggestions for treatment the vet gave us was to give Potus Evening Primrose Oil. It's a supplement available to humans (I think it's typically a supplement for women) from chemists. From what I've read it contains a certain substance similar to what puppies receive from their mothers in milk and helps clear up skin problems. However a co-worker of my mothers relayed a story about how giving Evening Primrose Oil to her dog almost killed it. Does anyone have any experience with giving their dog EPO or know anything about negative side effects??
and not being very successful.

Purely out of curiosity, I wanted to see a pure white and a pure black PWC. I was able to find 2 pictures of a white PWC but am having no luck finding pictures of an all black PWC. I understand the breed standards and that this would be an anomaly. Like I said, just curious.

Has anyone seen, heard of, taken pictures of, owned one or dreams of an all black PWC?

That's what a friend joked anyway.

Potus had to pay a trip to the vet this morning after we discovered one of his left cordal nipples had become black. Potus being Potus, he wouldn't let us get a good look at it, so he had to go to the vet to make sure it wasn't something serious. Once there he had to be admitted to be sedated as if Potus wasn't going to let us examine him he certainly wasn't going to let anyone else.

He went in in the morning and was examined around lunchtime. Turns out the cause isn't too serious- he has black heads. The vet cleaned the big one off but has told us he will likely get a few more. We've been advised to supplement his diet with some evening primrose oil to help clear up his skin and also been given instructions to help treat the dry skin on his belly. The only big problem with the blackheads is if they get clogged- but the vet advised that Potus will become sore, or start playing with the affected area so we have signs to look out for. I guess black heads are somewhat appropraite for a almost 3 year old dog- he is in that teenage stage.

Having him sedated wasn't the cheapest process but we are grateful that it wasn't anything serious, better to spend the money and have it checked out now then wait and have it be something bad.

So just a warning for any other Corgi owners who notice black areas on their Corgi's bellies- they may just need some ProActive :D
Corgi on C-List -- Lynn, MAtag:mycorgi.com,2011-05-29:1150197:Topic:10655352011-05-29T03:02:44.768ZJessicahttp://mycorgi.com/profile/JessicaLeibovitz

I have seen a few ads in our area for black and white pems. Do they really come out this color? I'm guessing it's a cross between a tri and red and white as some in the litter are sables. Just curious.

Here's the whole story.
About a month after we got Shiro (he was 4 months) he started getting small dot like dark brown sports on his belly that appeared to be itchy. I took him to a vet and he was prescribed some oral and topial antibiotics. The spots disappeared after the course was done but came back in a couple months. A friend of mine had a border collie puppy of the same age with the same symptoms and her vet said it was a puppy thing. So I thought it might have been the same, especially…

So I thought it might have been the same, especially after realizing that our vet liked to overtreat, overvaccinate and overtest.
We changed the vet and I think the spots either weren't as bad or disappeared because I don't remember the vet saying anything about it.
When we came back for neutering his tummy looked worse. The spots were bigger and now black. The vet said it was staph infection and sent us back home with some antibiotics. They helped, but now, about a month and a half later he got it again.
The staff also told me to keep soap on him for 10 minutes when bathing, but he doesn't really get bathed a lot anymore, every 2-3 weeks if he starts to stink.
Now I have to mention that Shiro was off flea prevention this past month, but we had to put him back on it because he is wit other dogs a lot and fleas started bugging him. This was about 2 weeks ago. Could it be the flea prevention causing this? He's on Advantage now, but he was on Frontline before.
He eats Innova large breed puppy food. It is not grain free, but a good quality food.
I read about staph infection in dogs and it looks nothing like what he has.
Has anybody seen something like that before?
Could it be any kind of allery?
