Hi All,

We have a busy household with a 9 month old Lab/Border Collie mix and my little princess a 7 month old Pembroke Corgi. I am having some behavioral issues with Daisy the Corgi and was hoping some more experienced Corgi lovers could help me out!

For one, we are still having issues with pooping in the house. We live out in the country and the two puppies play ALL day running and barking and being happy puppies inside and outside, Daisy goes outside first thing in the morning every morning for an hour, yet she holds her poo until she comes inside! If left unsupervised, she still poos in the house, even if she was just outside. Her older housemate is completely housebroken and can be left uncrated all day just fine.

Second, Daisy is very timid with us. She is most definitely attached to me, maybe overly so. She will follow me all around the house and dig under doors to get to me. She sits by the shower while I shower and is constantly by my side. She doesn't seem too fond of my husband. She rarely goes to him for attention, even though he certainly tries everything he can to win her over. She is extremely active and playful with the other dog but when either one of us goes to pet her, she puts her ears flat and acts very nervous, yet she follows me around acting like she would like attention.

Mind you, both of our dogs are extremely spoiled and are certainly not beaten or abused. I would just like to help her not be so timid.

Hi everyone! My 8 week old corgi pup will be arriving this weekend. I live in an urban neighborhood that is heavily trafficked by dogs (my street often smells like urine and you have to watch where you step; the surrounding streets are no better). I would like to teach my dog to do his business outside, but am worried about exposure to parvo. Should I wait until he has all his vaccines to take him outside to go to the bathroom? If so, do I then train him to use puppy pads until then?…

I read that to transition from puppy pads to outside, one has to move the pad closer to the door, and eventually bring a pad outside. At the end of the month, I will be moving to the 17th floor of a high-rise building. I know that puppies can only hold it for so long...is it silly of me to worry that while transitioning from going inside to going outside, he might not be able to wait until we actually get outside? He might have an accident in the hallway, the elevator, or in the lobby?

My family dog is a 13 year old Shepherd/Akita mix, so it's been a long time since I've dealt with housebreaking! Thanks in advance!
How much water to you give your corgi?tag:mycorgi.com,2013-02-04:1150197:Topic:16981542013-02-04T16:03:52.204Zraehttp://mycorgi.com/profile/raelynne

We have a 1 qt. bowl that we refill for Machete, until he's acclimated and housebroken completely, then he'll have access to the pet fountains the cats use as well...but while we're vigilant about taking him out I wonder are we giving him enough water?

Should he have unrestricted access? Some sources say no water 1 hour before bed, others 2-3. But also we don't want a dehydrated puppy, and it's fine now, but in the summer it's going to get super hot and we'll want to make sure he's…

Also, the adult dogs at our breeders had water dishes clipped to the gates of their crates. I would probably like to do that when he's older and in warmer weather, but is that just inviting disaster for a new pup (even if he never does mess his crate)?

(also, yes, I tried the FAQ and searching, but the search function on this site is very basic and doesn't even really use boolean operators properly)

I got Ferris two days ago, and it's been wonderful! I've been having a few problems with housebreaking though. He has a spot in the house that he always goes to do his business. Whenever I sense that he has to go, I take him outside, wait for him to go, but he doesn't. I take him back inside and he immediately goes to pee in that spot again. What should I do?

Well here is the deal. My wife and I doesn't want to crate him. He will have a room for him when we will be out to work. My wife is a teacher and I'm a sub and we will be gone from 6:40 to 3pm.
Do you have any advice?
Thank you so much. Sudden onset: Murphy forgetting he should pee outside...tag:mycorgi.com,2011-01-18:1150197:Topic:8457452011-01-18T14:52:59.901ZJessicahttp://mycorgi.com/profile/JessicaLeibovitz

So here's the deal:

Murphy is about 9 months old. Three days ago he was 100% spot-on with the whole 'peeing outside' thing and then WHAM! accident number one - we found pee on the hallway carpet. Thinking it was an isolated incident we didn't complain.. he's been at least acting potty trained for all this time. But then he's done it four more times:

In the hallway, on the carpet, IN FRONT OF me. I caught it and reacted poorly. Instead of scooping him up and plopping him outside I yelled. He stopped but ran off. We leashed him and took him out right after.

In the living room, on the wall behind the sofa(!?), while no one was home.

In the bedroom, on the door, while everyone was asleep before his normal rise time.

I'm at a loss.

Seems like when I scarred him he stopped house peeing in front of me but now he's just doing it while no one is around. He still goes out during his normal times so why the pee uprising? He's not just going in one spot either and when he does go we clean it up and the go over it with enzyme cleaner. We would praise him when he pees outside but one of the ways we have found two of the five accidents is he doesn't pee outside so there is nothing to praise.

Does anyone have any idea why he's suddenly turned into a rouge pee'er?
Housebreaking Issuetag:mycorgi.com,2010-01-09:1150197:Topic:5907862010-01-09T16:22:35.821ZStephaniehttp://mycorgi.com/profile/DaBear
I know how to housebreak - I have successfully housebroken Bear, but Goldy is giving me FITS!

1. She poops twice while I'm gone during the day - which is okay because she is alone for quite a long time and she's in a pen with a pee pad, but she doesn't seem to "not like to" - when I come home, she has often jumped in it or walked through it and it's on her paws and on the floor.
2. Her body just doesn't seem to work like Bear's - or any other dog's for that matter. Example: Wednesday - up at 5 (she had pooped twice during the night), short potty break outside, then to eat, then a 15 minute walk. I get ready for work, another quick potty break then into the pen for the day at about 6:45, her pen is attached to her crate. When I get home at 4, she has pooped twice in her pen. I feed her dinner, potty break/walk for 30 minutes and nothing. Later another short walk, about 10 minutes, then another 10 minute walk before bed. NOTHING - then she poops during the night! UGH. She doesn't seem to have the Poop after you eat, system thing down.

She weighs 10 pounds, she's 4 months old - she's getting a half a cup of food in the morning, and a half a cup of food at night. My first concern is that I'm overfeeding her, but when I was feeding her less, she looked too thin, even the vet told me to up her food intake.

Any advice?

Why doesn't she hate pooping in her crate?
Why doesn't she eat, then poop?
What am I doing wrong?

Bear is incredible and has been since the day he came home, any accidents he had were obviously me not reading his communication, once I figured out his signals, we were golden. Goldy on the other hand - can walk for 30 minutes do nothing, then come in the house and poop 10 minutes later. I'm pretty new but I've been lurking for a few weeks and everyone seems really nice! So I'm hoping someone out there knows what I should do here. :)
Today, It's been really bad. Now, instead of whining when he needs to be let out of his crate to go out he's whining AFTER he pees... :( To make matters worse when I got to his cage to take him out he's poo'd in his crate and was SITTING in it. ;;sigh;; I don't know what to do here - the crate is the right size for him because when ever he pees or poos he ends up sitting in it. I took the liner out of his cage because he literally went through three liners yesterday with this new behavior and just so you all know, I've been using the Nature's Miracle cleaner to make sure that no smell is left behind in the crate.

Suggestions? Please? This is my first attempt at housebreaking a puppy and I feel as though I'm getting something horribly wrong here.
Well Jasper's almost 11 wks and sleeps through the night pretty often, but sometimes he will wake me up in the middle of the night to go out, which is to be expected. I go to bed around 11:30 and take him out around 5 or 6 when he doesn't wake me in the middle of the night. On a handful of occassions though, it seems he didn't realize he had to go until the very last second, and as soon as I wake up to his whimperings I find a freshly wet crate. Has anyone done this to help train their pups? I don't want him to wet his crate, but this seems sort of cruel to me. I'll cut off his food at a certain time, but I hate to deny him of water. I can't decide if this is truly a good training tool or if I need to cater to his potty breaks at this age. Thanks in advance for any advice! First time corgi owner... Okay, so I don't actrually own a corgi yet but I am considering a little boy who's only eight weeks old. We have had some failed attemps to train dogs of other breeds (labs, german shepards) and I was wondering what training tecchniques were a success for corgi owners since corgis are known to be very smart and inteligent while also stubborn at times. Any tips for success would be appreciated!
