This is something we will discuss with the vet once we get the puppy, but I wanted to know what everyone else does.

At what age do you start using heartworm & flea/tick meds? What brand do you guys prefer?

I would also like to hear the same thing about vitamins, what kind, brands, etc.

I heard coconut oil is a very good supplement, I've been giving it to my cat for a while now and her coat is even shinier than before and she even seems to get hair balls a lot less…

What are some questions you should ask a breeder before you take home one of their puppies? What sorts of answers should they give? Is there anything you wish you'd asked your breeder? As a breeder is there something you think prospective corgi owners should always ask?

I am about to make a down payment on a Corgi pup within the next few days, and since this place seems to be filled with owners with experiance, I have some questions I'd like to throw out there.

I currently live in an apartment, that's about 700 square feet. Is this enough room for a corgi? We also have two cats, and a total of two people (who are fairly small in frame). Granted, it will be given many oppritunities for walks and such.

We are leaning towards NOT sending in London's AKC paperwork and registering him and saving the money. We waited until the last minute admittedly, and tried to do it online just to find out our paperwork didn't have a PIN to register it online and that our form had to be mailed in, and since it would go out after Oct 2 2010 it was not only $34 but an additional $35 (total $69).

We will not be breeding London. Unfortunately he must be fixed in the near future now that he's one year old, he has that condition where only one *ahem* "nut" descended. We're told it's best to have him fixed shortly so it won't increase the risk of becoming cancerous, beyond the fact it apparently will increase their chances of a longer healthy life fixed. Along with the fact the surgery will cost a little more than a basic "fix" because it will be semi-exploratory (we have a general idea actually where the rogue *ahem* "nut" is hiding and occasionally appears).

So my question is basically this, is there any sense in spending $69 for papers on a dog that will never be bred, his markings are not AKC "perfection" and he'll never be able to be shown (which is pure B.S. frankly, sorry our pup is handsome!)

We haven't pitched the form, but after Oct 2, 2011 the fee increase another $30-something, so it'll cost like $120.
Going to pick up my puppy on Jan 16th 2010...tag:mycorgi.com,2010-01-06:1150197:Topic:5883772010-01-06T02:21:31.190ZKevin and Buddy!http://mycorgi.com/profile/buddy09
I apologize if any of this includes repeated questions that have been asked 154573 times. I greatly appreciate any advice :D
So the time has finally come, my puppy just passed his first vet exam with flying colors, and he is going to be ready to go home next weekend (9 weeks old). I have done a ton of research and I am doing my best to compile a list of questions that I should ask the breeder prior to picking him up. I have been generally quite pleased with the breeder so far, and she has been very kind in answering my relentless amounts of emails so far, so I want to make sure that I cover all my bases as this is my first time using a breeder.
Below is a list of questions that I have come up with so far. I am hoping to send these questions off to the breeder so that she has time to thoughtfully answer each one, instead of putting her on the spot when we pick up our little boy.

1) How much and how often do we need to feed the corgi as a puppy? And as an adult?
2) The VeRUS adult dog food comes in 6.6lb, 20lb and 40lb bags, which size bag would be best to buy for one adult to avoid the food spoiling?
3) How often should we bathe our corgi, and what type of shampoo do you recommend?
4) At what age would you recommend that we have our puppy neutered?
5) What grooming tools would you recommend?
6) During the day when we can’t be with the puppy, would you recommend that we keep the puppy in the crate, or set up a puppy pen with potty pads?
7) Do you provide a spay/neuter agreement and health guarantee?
8) What inoculations have been given?
9) Have the puppies been dewormed?
10) How often do we need to treat the puppy for worms, fleas and ticks?
11) Will you provide a sales contract stating the purchase price, the puppy's birth date, the AKC numbers and names of the sire and dam, the litter registration number, any other conditions of the sale and the puppys pedigree?

Some of these questions she has answered before, but I want something in writing and a bit more formal that I can look back on once we have the puppy should I forget something.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/comments or plain advice on my trials and tribulations to come in the next few months of owning my first corgi. I have scoured this site and many, many other websites for advice, but who better to ask then fellow corgi owners? Hey folks, I don't want to go outside the purpose of this great website by hawking a product, but is this section approved to list a website? Our plates are great for gifts and even as elegant memorials for hundreds of breeds, but if that is not allowed on this site, I want to respect that. Any input on this? I truly believe the Corgi community would love our plates. But if it is a no-no, then it won't be done. Thanks for the consideration.
