So Steve has been wearing the cone for most of 3weeks so the fur on his paw is finally growing back. It's funny how he actually likes the cone - when I take it off and leave it on the ground, he'll stick he head in it to continue wearing it (silly boy!).
I've been making a list of all the suggestions everyone made (thank you!) and see which one may work for Steve. I know I have to give each remedy chance to work so we'll take our time and I'm hoping one of them will work.
For those of you going through the same thing, I hope you find the right remedy for your corgi! If I find the "miracle cure" for Steve I'll certainly share it with you.
My vet said that benedryl doesn't really help dogs much. Just makes them drowsy and doesn't help the itching much .Gunny has been on the Tamaril for 2 days and his itching has pretty much stopped. I am just concerned with what happens when we stop the pill in 8 days. Hopefully the "condition" will have calmed down enough to bring it to an end. He usually doesn't have skin issues through the winter. Once the cold weather sets in he is fine.

You might try Gold Bond. It comes in powder and lotions. We have the powder, the green & gold colored bottle lotions.

Having used it on myself it does get warm/tingle when first applied so I wouldn't over do it. Just a little dab/dot to start see what his reaction to it might be.
My boy is itchy all over. He hasn't broken skin but he scratches enough to make me itch. His is summer and winter. I'm running out of ideas what to try next. We've done salmon oil, cooking oil, olive oil. We are…

My boy is itchy all over. He hasn't broken skin but he scratches enough to make me itch. His is summer and winter. I'm running out of ideas what to try next. We've done salmon oil, cooking oil, olive oil. We are now working with Norwegian Fish Oil. Next is minerals. I DO NOT want to put him on prednisone but I am curious how much benadril did you give him and what kind??. I've bought pills and childrens anthisistamine cherry flavor but havent used it. Oh poor sweet Steve! That face says it all! I just had my Gunny at the vet today after listening to him scratching off and on throughout the night and off and on throughout the day for a week or so. He has had some skin issues in the past( usually summertime). I assumed that he was one of those dogs that got a hyperallergic reaction to flea or insect bite. This time I saw no sign of any fleas but he was itchy to beat the band !Doc says this year, especially the last three weeks has been really…

He has had some skin issues in the past( usually summertime). I assumed that he was one of those dogs that got a hyperallergic reaction to flea or insect bite. This time I saw no sign of any fleas but he was itchy to beat the band !Doc says this year, especially the last three weeks has been really horrible for ragweed allergies here in NE Ohio. He has seen more dogs with the same thing than in past summers.I too, do not easily give in to steroid use, but I know he must be miserable to be scratching so much.We will try the Tamaril for 10 days or so. The vet said that the Tamaril is a very low dose of steroid and also an antihistimine.
I bought some aloe vera lotion at the health store and am keeping it in the frig to apply a cooling compress. You might want to give that a go. Someone also suggedsted to me that I give Gunny salmon oil in his food. I guess it is the rich Omegas in that stuff that helps skin conditions. Good luck with Steve. Let me know if you discover any miraculous fixes and I will do the same., -( i am sooo sad for your cor…tag:mycorgi.com,2010-09-02:1150197:Comment:7426642010-09-02T02:41:20.433ZKristen Schaubhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/KristenSchaub
-( i am sooo sad for your corgi! my corgi, Sammy, had similar problems...we tried similar interventions... We have really restricted his diet, and that has seemed to be a huge success...but it has taken a whole year. He has been doing very welll. We picked the 3M model because of a few things:

1. The price is cheaper than most other brand and models in the market
2. You can purchase the refill - filter in any walmart / target, it is way cheaper than other brand and model.
3. The unit can be purchase from walmart / target / bestbuy, it is cheaper than most brand
4. The unit is very quiet and does have 3 selectable dials to control the strength of the fan
5. The amount of air that goes through the unit compared to others
Ask your vet if he'd be willing to prescribe Singulair. It's an incredibly safe, non steroidal treatment for allergies that is used in even very young children. I didn't do an extensive search, but it looks like it's been used in dogs. It doesn't work as well as steroids, but has far fewer side effects, is non-drowsy, and can be used with an antihistamine, because it's a different class of drug. If your little guy got better with prednisone, it certainly could be allergies causing the problem,…

It might also not hurt to see a veterinary dermatologist. I have a corgi her allergies are so bad it took me 5 years to get her spade because the Vet would not do the surgery until she was completely clear of skin infections for fear it would end up internal. This is what I found helps and it keeps her clean and no hotspots. You have to bath him once a week until cleared up than you can cut it down to twice a month. Get the dial liquid anti-bactrial soap we use to wash our hands you can get it in a bag and also pick up a bottle of each Mane and Tail Shampoo and conditioner. Wash your baby in the dial and you have to leave it on for 5 minutes and make sure you really clean the infected area with it. Rinse well than wash with the mane and tail than put on the conditioner. Because the dial will dry out their skin you want to make sure you use the mane and tail leaving the conditioner on for at least 5 minutes. Our Cali had such bad sores they bleed badly leaving large open holes and her skin smelled really bad. We spent $1000 of dollars at 5 different vets on all kinds of creams and steroids and all it did is make her fat. They wanted me to put her down so at desperation we started buying all kinds of over the counter meds at the phamacy for jock itch, athletes foot, ring worm well you get the picture. So we have tried it all. Give it a shot what do you have to lose. Thanks everyone. Thanks everyone. I appreciate you sharing your experience and you provided great suggestions.
The licking/biting is only on his paws. Started with the whole upper front right paw but when I put baby socks on it (with vetwrap of course) he started on his othe paws but it's no where near raw as the front right paw. I did notice some pinkness in the area right under his nose and he'd rub it on the floor or grass at times. No other itching/scratching/biting and his ears are clean and smell…
