Hello, fellow Corgi owners! I'm new to this forum thing so be nice =) I was wondering what brand food you folks prefer? I've recently been looking more into the whole dog food thing and I'm experimenting with brands. I understand that the first ingredient should be a meat product and that grain fillers are a bit frowned upon.
StarFox is about to be 7 months. He got neutered not too long ago and the vet tech told me that he's a bit on the chunkier side (20.6 pounds) so to reduce his servings a little. I used to give him 2 cups of dry food a day (split into 2 servings) with just a teaspoon of wet food... ain't gonna lie, wet poop is no fun! The vet tech advised me to trim it down to 1.5 cups of dry food a day. When we purchased him from the pet shop, they provided us with Eukanuba dry and wet food. He's also had Iams dry food and Beneful dry food. I got into the whole food research thing AFTER I bought Beneful, which I'm no longer going to purchase anymore since the first ingredient isn't meat (boo!). He's also had Beneful and Pedigree when it comes to the wet food. He is currently on Ultra dry food plus the Pedigree wet food. Since he's only about to be 7 months, is it too early to look into the whole "diet" type of dog food? I was planning on watching his weight with his new food instructions. Thank you in advance!

2-3 minutes? You must have made a typo. For a corgi, 30 seconds to eat 1/2 cup food- max. I wanted to make a comment about the green beans someone mentioned. Because I read it here, i gave Snickers a fresh green bean. she spit it out. I tried a frozen green bean. She mouthed it until it wasn't frozen and then spit it out. I bought a bag of frozen mixed veggies; green beans, carrots, peas and dumped some in each of my dog's bowls and they all snarfed it up. The funny thing is that Snickers- the lightning fast eater- eats her frozen veggies slower than the other two! Maybe I should freeze her kibble?

Haha nope, no typo. The kibble I bought is bigger so he actually has to CHEW his food... the other kibble he's tried were small so he'd practically swallow it, which he'd then finish in 30 seconds =) Hmm, I wonder how StarFox would react to the green beans. Have you ever tried steaming 'em? Might be more enjoyable.

Hey Breanne, Welcome to site! by the way StarFox is super adorable! I have a 9month old Corgi and I've fed her Blue Buffalo from the day we brought her home! at 9months she weighs 17lbs, but shes also on the smaller side when it comes to Corgis. She gets about 1.5cups a day (split in 2 meals), and she gets carrots, green beans, apples, bananas for snacks.  I want to try the pumpkin, i'm just scared what will happen if I accidentally give her too much, like you said.. wet poop is NO fun haha.

Keep us updated with lots of StarFox pictures, and good luck with the food options! :-)

Hi Breanne!  StarFox is a handome fellow!  Overweight?  I can't see how!  He looks great to me.

We feed Blue Buffalo Chicken and Brown Rice.  When we got Isabella at 10 weeks of age, she was eating half Wellness Puppy and half of the Blue Buffalo total of 1.5 cups of food total per day. 3/4 cup in the a.m. and 3/4 cup in fhe p.m.  I just fed her as the breeder instructed.  :o)  By 5 months of age she was eating 100% Blue Buffalo, same total amount of food.  She got fed more as a young puppy, and at 8 months of age her food was decreased to 1 cup per day, 1/2 cup in the a.m. and 1/2 cup in the p.m.  Isabella LOVES carrots and green beans!  She'll eat anyting, I'm sure!  I just give her a few fresh ones whenever I'm using those myself.  Bananas are a special treat, too.  She smells them and comes running!  I even have baggies of sliced bananas in the freezer from when they get too ripe for my liking.  She love the frozen slices, too.

Ahh, nice... StarFox just turned 8 months yesterday so I think I'll stick to 1/2 servings instead of 3/4. StarFox loves raw carrots too! He still hasn't tried green beans. My coworker told me that I should steam the carrots before giving it to StarFox because they get nutrients that way instead of it being raw (opposite of us humans)... ever heard of that? Wow, bananas?! That's a new 1... he's had apples and pears and he enjoys those. I'll let him try the banana thing next time =) I bet frozen bananas would be a nice treat during the Summer!
