The Vet that did Sidney's surgery is on the list. Wonderful doc, really knows what he's doing. Thank goodness we had access to a PennHIP vet.

I got to know a few PennHIP vets in FL and Toronto, I like the fact that they "know" corgis, they know their stuff and took time to answer all my questions. One of them became my personal vet and we've since established a rescue relationship with the practice. I can't say every PennHIP vets are good, but at least the ones I met and the research staff on campus were impressive.
Hey Sam, I know this is older post but hoping you will see this. What exactly does PennHIP vets do? Mickey has possible, torn ligament (we have to find out if its partial or fully torn) but he basically can not do any exercise without limping now..sometimes holding one leg fully up in the air, it usually calsm down within a few minutes but he continues his limp for a day or two. Would it be best to see a vet who is certified with PennHIP, even if its not his hip..would they have more knowledge…

I'm glad to hear it. I hear it takes some time and therapy but the results are good. Keep up the good work. I'll check out your blogs.

Hi Alice,
Sidney had the surgery a month ago. He just had his checkup this afternoon, and he's doing great. I've written a few blogs on the subject of his surgery, so if you go to my page you'll be able to find those and catch up. He's starting to walk on it again, but by bit. He's feeling much better than before surgery; his femur head was rubbing against his pelvic bone and was painful for him. That doesn't happen anymore!

Oh my gosh! I just saw this post. So did you get him the surgery? Finn had episodes of limping and yelping and the vet did say that his hip popped out of the socket quite easily, but honestly, since he lost weight he's been so active and able to leap and bound and hasn't limped in months. I can occasionally hear his hip popping but that's it. He's very happy. We won't opt for surgery until we absolutely have to.
That is so true. I wondered what would have happened 20, 50, 100 years ago in a case like this. Thank goodness for advances in veterinary care.

Alice, how are things going with Finn? Just this Monday night Sidney did that sudden yelping thing. Tuesday we took him to the vet and found out he has bad hip dysplasia. His left hip popped out and he can't step on his left foot. We're getting him the FHO surgery on TUesday.

It's been 1 year and 1 month since Soffie tore her acl and I'm happy to say she's down 10 pounds to a healthy weight of 28lbs. And is back to running, playing ball, chasing her brother!!!

Time flies!!! Keep up the good work Finn!! I know your mom is happy for you... as are we!!

Sounds like a good specialist. You basically got the same instructions as us. Since I posted last Finn has lost weight. Even though he wasn't really overweight to start with, the vet had said that he's do better slightly underweight and she was right. He looks great and can now jump onto the couch or bed and I haven't seen him limp since. It may still come to surgery one day and I do still hear popping in his hips but he's not bothered at all. I wish you and your pup the best. :)
