Comment by Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack ) on April 4, 2011 at 6:00pm: @Bev and Annette - Thanks for the heads up, but our problem has mostly been RR chewing holes in everything. He has a basket of toys and we keep Kongs stuffed and ready in the freezer, but it didn't help. He is getting better and I credit his improvement to his age. He is finally one years old. I think maturation, even more than our training and trainers has helped enormously.

Comment by Annette Cadosi Wilson on April 4, 2011 at 5:45pm: Hi, All. I'm an interior designer and I have made my house as corgi proof as possible. I've used a high quality ultra suede on my sofa. It looks elegant and mud, wine and corgi hair is easily vacuumed with the hose attachment. Of course only the cats get on the sofa, even they know they are not supposed to. How does one train a cat who looks so cute curled up on the pillows! My chairs are inexpensive wicker from the import store. That way, if we have munching puppies, I won't feel so bad if it only costs $250 to replace one. I also have a young granddaughter, so most chewy things are put up high. The only thing that has become an issue is carpet piddling with my DM girl. Even then, I just roll it up, blot the piddle up and give the carpet a good rinse with water and a sponge. Portability seems to be the key, here. If you are worried about something being destroyed by a puppy, put it above puppy height, roll it up. or put it away. I also leave plenty of toys in a basket in the living room...things to chew, like Kongs stuffed with bisquits and peanut butter. Everything in my living room is washable, disposable or inaccessible.

That having been said, if we get a new baby corgi, I guess all bets are off!

Comment by Bev Levy on April 4, 2011 at 7:42am: Wendy, We bought a leather couch from Macy's last year with a warranty that guarantees the leather against stains and scratches for 7 years. It will not cover eating the leather though. The couch has held up great with an occasional damp cloth wipe down. I love it! I do keep a sheet on it most of the time and when we have company just a removal of the sheet makes it look like our 5 hairy beasts do not spend all their time sleeping on it. Izzy sheds all the time and Sparty just does a couple times a year by the way. I bathe them rarely in the winter and monthly in the summer.

Lucy and Ricky blow their coats maybe once or twice/year. They don't shed heavily year-round like our other corgis. Wonder if there's any correlation bet. baths and shedding?

Comment by Lucy & Ricky (Wendy/Jack ) on April 3, 2011 at 10:08pm: @Jane - Since Ricky/Rafa "redecorated" we need to replace furniture. It was time, even before RR. Jack's been wanting leather, but I'm not sure because of the dogs nails. Jack clips them weekly, but they still would leave scratch marks on leather, I think. Have you had experience with leather furniture and corgis on it?

Comment by Geri & Sidney on April 3, 2011 at 10:06pm: Hard to tell, we have 3 dogs and 2 cats. From what I can tell, he does not shed much, just a couple times a year he blows coat. Some of Sid's corgi friends shed like crazy though.

I keep on thinking of getting rid of some of my photos too but I never get around to it. I was going to buy a new leather couch this year but decided that I needed to get Zip instead.

We bathe them in the laundry room sink, whenever they need it, which is maybe once a year. I always say that corgis have a bit of cat in them. I often see mine licking themselves clean. And they never smell. I'm glad that yours are the same.

Comment by Geri & Sidney on April 3, 2011 at 9:43pm: OH, the mud just seems to fall off Sidney too! We could be out hiking and all dirty, and by the time we get home he's clean as can be. He never really needs a bath. Neat to know he's not the only one :)
