Hopefully we will see you there sometime!

There is a nice dog friendly cafe within walking distance that you can go to for lunch. Then if you really want a nice long day, you can go to the HB dog beach!

    http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=PSDN.A315392

  • Rocky Road Gallagher

Cutest Corgi fella needs a home- Pasadena, CA!!

    This DOG - ID#A315392

Male, tan and white Welsh Corgi - Pembroke.

About 2 years and 1 month old.

At the shelter since Sep 29, 2012.

This information is 1 hour old.

  • Max, Sonic, Bear: Pembroke Welsh

What a cute guy!  We have 2 Pembs and 2 Golden Retrievers - can't have another - but someone should step up!

  • Marlene & Cadbury

Since I work in Pasadena, I emailed the link to all my coworkers and posted it on my facebook. Hopefully he finds an everlasting home.

  • luis hernandez

i just got back from the humane societyt yo check him out and talk to them.

he was turned in as a stray. his left eye is a bit bloodshot they said it could just be irritated due to hime being found in a dirt lot. he is very mark happy he marked the people that found him. he is 2 years old unaltered. so he is marks everything, he is also very protective of humans. the people that found him took him home for a night and he would growl at there friends. he needs obedience training he let me pet him and would rub himself on my hand when i was touching the kennel. he barks a lot and knows the Sit command. if you think you are a good home for him please call them and see if you can get on the wait list.

  • luis hernandez

also he will be available on the 4th of october so call at exactly 11 to see if he has been adopted.

  • Snickmom

If Luis saw him with a red eye today, and he is available in 2 days, that doesn't sound like he was there very long? What do they do to try to find the owner? He doesn't look like he has been on the street very long.

  • luis hernandez

yes i saw him this morning and hes been there since the 29th they said that there is a 5 day mandatory hold incase the owner is looking for him which is up on the 4th.

  • Rocky Road Gallagher

I must commend everyone in the socal corgis group. We are a special bunch with big squishy hearts!

    Saturday, February 9, 2013 @ 1pm

Exact location on the beach TBD, but most likely will be the same place we met last time. Will post directions closer to the date."

    Who's going?!

  • Eric Kim

    we will definitely be there!

  • Jim Edwards

Sounds fun... Moira and Richie will be there

  • Rocky Road Gallagher

Next Saturday, Feb 9 @ 1:00pm " We are meeting close to PCH and Goldenwest. Just north of lifeguard station 22 at the south end of the dog beach." -Pickles da Corgi

  • Snickmom

I want to be prepared- what do I bring for the meters and where do I park if the lot is full? Snickers will control the weather.

  • Rocky Road Gallagher

9 rules for a Corgi meetup at the beach! My cousin shared this with me today! So cute!! I think I see some familiar puffypants!

    >>@Snickmom- There are two parking lots between Seapoint and Goldenwest that service Huntington Dog Beach. These parking lots now feature electronic parking meters that print out parking passes for your dashboard. The cost is $1.50 per hour. These machines take Visa/MC, currency, and coins. Additionally, there is metered parking along PCH at the Goldenwest end of Dog Beach. FYI Dog Beach portion is located on Pacific Coast Highway between Seapoint Ave, and 21st Street.

  • Caitlin Randolph

I saw in a video what looked like a Pembroke with a tail. Can anyone vouch for that!?

  • Jay & Bentley

@ Caitlin Randolph -- It's possible.  There is a common misnomer that Pems are all born without tails.  In fact, a lot of Pems are born with tails, but some owners choose to dock their tails either out of safety/health concerns as a working dog or simply to carry out a tradition of Pems having docked tails.  For generations Pems have had their tails docked because Corgis were seen/used as working dogs on farms.  Breeders began to find ways to breed Pems so they are born naturally without tails, but there were always some born with tails (which, back in the day, they eventually docked) -- this is where the misnomer of "all Pembrokes have no tails" came from.  Because of anti-docking laws in some countries (especially in the UK), more Pems are seen WITH tails nowadays.  It's kind of like how some people dock the tails of their Cardi's thinking they have a Pem or thinking it looks better without a tail.  Hope that answers your question.

  • Caitlin Randolph

@Jay & Bentley I also believed that Pem's were born without tails until about a year ago. Ever since I am on the hunt for a good breeder who doesn't dock their tails or at least a few dogs from the litter so I can have a selection from personalities, not reserve one before. I have not had any luck within California so when I saw a video from the Southern California meetup on the beach with a Pem with a tail I was hoping they could point me in the direction of where they got their dog. Any help would be great!

  • liane, emi, and helix!

@Caitlin Randolph I happen to have a tailed pem but we weren't at the socal corgi beach day. If you are looking for a tailed pem, it may be hard to find through a reputable breeder. Like Jay&Bentley said more pems are seen WITH tails nowadays. though its not unheard of, there are a handful of tailed pems in southern California. I think it will be hard to find a reputable breeder who is willing to not dock tails as reputable breeders breed to breed standard (try saying that 5 times fast!). I got my pem from a back yard breeder (obviously not the best choice in breeders) and while I do admit his tail is quite an endearing quality, he lacks in other qualities that my other akc, docked, reputable breeder pem has (so I guess I learned my lesson there, but we love him just the same!). So I hope you will be able to find your dream pem! The more breeders you talk to, you may be able to find one who will be willing to leave the tail. I know how tough it is looking in California for a good breeder within a budget cause I've been down that road as well! Good luck! (maybe try breeders out of state willing to ship? just a thought!)

  • Jay & Bentley

@ Caitlin Randolph -- Is there a specific reason you are looking for a Pembroke with a tail and not just a Cardigan?  Cardi's are only on average 10lbs heavier than Pems, and for the most part they all have tails (and larger ears than Pems).  But, if you really have your heart set on a Pem with a tail, I suggest you try a Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue organization.  It may be a long shot to find a 9 week old puppy to start off with, but if there is anybody out there in contact with more Corgi's.. it would be them.  http://www.pembrokecorgi.org/rescue_network.html

Be careful about breeders (both private and "larger" scale) -- some can be pretty shady about their lineage and/or mental/physical health history... and you'll be paying a pretty penny for their dogs (I've heard prices range from $500-1200).  If you go through a good rescue organization/person, you can find a perfectly good Corgi for a couple hundred (mostly just to cover the cost of nurturing and personal time to raise a newborn).  I picked up my Bentley for less than $300 from a private rescue.

And I'll tell you this much -- if you want a specific Corgi, I mean with specific traits or characteristics, just be patient.  I wanted a specific Cardi -- I was mostly looking for personality, but I was also looking for either a tri-color or blue merle... it took me 2.5 years to finally find him, but it paid off because we're both happy and his personality suits me.  Patience will pay off, just be prepared to wait a bit.  If I hear anything about someone breeding Pems that have tails in the future, I'll let you know.  Good luck!

  • Jenny McFarlane

I think the dog you are seeing with a tail is a fluffy cardigan- if it's the back and white dog. We asked the owner about her.
