Last year we did meet at a Pearland park, and have done impromptu meets at Paws in the Park out there, but a lot of members don't like to make the drive. Because it's a Houston group we do like to make the majority of the meets more centrally located. The most common places are Bill Archer & Danny Jackson. Majority rules so post your votes :)
Right... well members who aren't crazy about the drive would I guess be me because I live in League City... a lot of these parks on the Western side of Houston are pretty far for me. I'll just see what gets the most votes and then decide if I want to make the drive over there.
Unfortunately, our metro area is extremely spread out and no matter where the meet is someone is going to have to drive. I can't help that, I wish I could make everyone happy. The central Houston parks are extremely small pocket parks so that's the reason we tend to try to pick larger parks. When the Corgis get together they stay in a group and have a pack mentality so the more space the better.
There is a set of two corgis for adoption in Austin, if anyone knows anyone.
Both the dogs initially came from breeders but Fanny, the Cardigan, was a rescue from a military family where the husband had died in Afghanistan and the wife had too much on her plate with a baby and another on the way. The owner of them now, cannot find the papers for either dog because she never in a million years thought she'd have to give them up. I believe they are both spayed and neutered but I'll confirm that for you. They are housebroken but have never been to obedience school.
Fanny is the lover of the two. She loves being around people and having her belly rubbed. She can be protective if she feels that those she loves are being threatened. She's outgoing and gentle. She's seven. When her housemate corgi, Walter, died, she was very upset and lost energy until Rufus showed up. It took her a while to warm up, but they now love each other and play together often.
Rufus, the Pemmie, is two. He's got a quirky personality and is very sensitive. He sometimes scares easily around loud noises or people who are strangers. When I was taking pictures of him for the corgi tales page, he kept running away every time the camera flashed. (Fanny seemed to love having her picture taken). He was bought from a breeder in OK. Emily was concerned that maybe the breeders were not very nice people and it's made Rufus skittish. Once he warms up to someone, he's very friendly but is not needy. He's more independent than Fanny.
Would love to, just hadn't heard any feedback on where & when. After the complaining last time, I've decided to take a more laid back approach :) since starting this group in 2008, I've never felt such negativity being thrown around in a place that is intended to be a fun and friendly place.
We can do Bill Archer, it's a really nice park. But Pudge has been bad lately with unfamiliar dogs. We are still working with him. Unsure if we would go or not.
If I had to be a tie breaker between Bill Archer & the Boneyard, I'd have to say Bill Archer because the Boneyard was absolutely packed last time and there were too many dogs crammed into a small area which caused some dog bickering. It also might be a good idea to let the "heat" die down so the Corgi group doesn't get banned ;)
Hi all! We have been busy lately and out of the loop on meet-ups. We are going to be at the Bay Area Dog Park Saturday, 2/16 (tomorrow) morning. We'd love it if anyone could meet up with us. Here is a link to a map of the park: http://www.harriscountytx.gov/CmpDocuments/2/Parks/2%20BayArea%20SP...
After I wear the dogs out we are going to explore the park a little more and do some geocaching. I hope to see any and all corgis!! :)
Hi, everyone. I would love my 5-mo old pup to meet other Corgis, and I'd like to meet other Corgi owners as well. We can't go to Boneyard, though, since he's not fixed yet (though he will be eventually!). So would others be up for meeting at Bill Archer Sunday afternoon?
Rebecca, I took Ethel to the boneyard a month ago when she was 5 months old and not yet fixed. I don't know if they have a rule against that but no one ever said anything to me. Just wanted to let you know! She is getting fixed this week...looking forward to future meet ups! We had a blast.
Hello corgi peeps! The dog club I am affiliated with is hosting an agility trial this weekend at Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock. If you are interested please come out and watch. Scout will be running for his first time in a trial too. That is sure to be entertaining in itself! We also need volunteers if you would like to help. For each round you volunteer you get a $4.00 voucher that can be used on future entry fees from this club or you can use it to buy lunch at the concession. Doesn't that sound enticing? ;-) Even if you don't volunteer it is fun to come watch! I tried to attach a flyer but I am not sure if it will work. Contact me with any questions.
Hi there everyone! I'm new to mycorgi.com and was wondering if anyone lived on the North side of Houston in Spring? I would love to meet up with fellow corgi owners maybe at Pundt Park (fairly new) and have our dogs play! Gino is about a year and a half old, mix breed between a daschund and a corgi. He's adorable!
Sounds good, we'll be at Buffalo Bayou dog park by allen parkway and montrose today at 1pm if anyone wants to join, I know its late notice, just a nice day
Sorry, but we are out for a bit. Spencer herniated a disc in his back last weekend, and is on 6 to 8 weeks of Kennel Rest. He's doing better already, so it is looking very good. We just have to wait long enough for it to heal up before he is allowed to frap again.
Hi there! I'm fairly new to Houston and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a meet up. I've got a 5 month old Corgi (as well as a 4 month old Dachshund) and would love for them to make some new friends here. If anyone is interested please let me know :)
Hey fellow corgi lovers! I am new to mycorgi.com and was wondering if ya'll are having any upcoming events and how ya'll coordinate them! I have an almost 5 month tro-colored old Pembroke welsh corgi that I would love to have other corgi friends. We go to Bill Archer Dog park and I would love to meet up with some other corgis soon! Let me know if anyone is interested!
There is normally at least one meetup a month, now that the weather is warming up, I expect to start seeing more people around and more gatherings. The most common places last year were Bill Archer Park, Danny Jackson Park, and Boneyard Dog Park & Drinkery.
Hello everyone! We're gonna be at the Bay Area dog park tomorrow April 19th at around 3-4pm with our two corgi pups. It's Sarah's (my partner's) bday, so we're using that as an excuse to get out. :P If anyone would like to join us you're more than welcome. The more the merrier.
Hey all! Kobe and I will be at Boneyard around noon on Saturday 4/20 with a visiting corgi from Dallas, TX! Feel free to join and increase the corgi love if you guys are free! :)
Banjo and I want to get some corgis together at either the Danny Johnson Bark Park on Westpark or Bill Archer Dog Park. We were hoping some time in the afternoon tomorrow (Saturday, 4/26). Anyone have any park preferences? I usually prefer Bill Archer because of size and cleanliness, but it is a little bit of a drive for us. If I can meet up with some corgis there, it'd definitely be worth the drive! :)
Banjo and I should be able to make it there around the same time, Sara. I'm hoping to convince Banjo's siblings to join us as well! See you guys later today!
I have a friend in that is off south main just south of 610 and I forwarded to info to his family. I pray that you all find him soon and don't worry he is ok.
