Hello from Nancy & Pippin in Englewood, FL~ Your baby is beautiful! I see she likes her "pretties" (what we call bandanas), too!

Dog training clubs are usually a good place to start. Many folks take obedience classes and get a CGC or Canine Good Citizen certification on their dog. Some clubs offer training for therapy work and have an evaluator come to certifiy dogs at the end of the class. There are several therapy certifications. I was certified through Therapy Dogs International. Best of luck.

Hi! I saw your comment about therapy groups in the Tampa Bay Area. The training school I work for has a wonderful group of therapy dogs and can give you good advice on how to get started and the best places to begin visiting once you've passed an evaluation test. We used the Delta Society evaluation test and find it really useful.
  • MagnoliaFly

I like the Delta society orientations and find it more comprehensive than some of the other organizations that just have you do a trial visit and then bam, you're certified. It might seem easier but you don't get a good idea of all the rules/regs involved in going into clinical environments and the liability you have as the handler. You can do the Delta course at home and then be evaluated as a team. Our evaluator is ill now and won't be able to evaluate here in Tampa for a while so we're trying to get a new one trained.
