My name is Stacy L. Pearsall and I got my start as an Air Force photographer over ten years ago at the age of 17. I am one of only two women to win the NPPA Military Photographer of the Year competition, and the only woman to have won it twice. During my three tours in Iraq, I earned the Bronze Star Medal and Commendation with Valor for heroic actions under fire. After being wounded in action, I was medically retired from service. However, the wounds I have sustained have not affected my abilities as a photographer or journalist.
My work has been published in various media to include Time Magazine, New York Times, CNN, BBC, LA Times, USA Today, Soldier of Fortune, Sports Illustrated, Bahrain Times, Oscar nominated PBS: Operation Home Coming and GQ Magazine: This is Our War. Most notably, I was featured in national magazines, Pink, Popular Photography and Newsweek, where I shared my experiences as a female combat photojournalist. My photo project titled "Birth Control Glasses" was featured at LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph in 2007 and my portrayal of combat experiences in Iraq titled "Inside An Ambush" was highlighted in the NPPA Magazine that same year. I am also an NPPA Women in Photojournalism and Atlanta Photojournalism Contest award winner.
In 2009 alone, my images have been exhibited in Charleston, S.C. and Hollywood, California. A collection of my photographs will start a nationwide tour in the spring. I made a guest appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in February. During the interview, Oprah and I discussed my photographic history and the future of my business.
Currently I freelance worldwide and am the Director of the Charleston Center for Photography (www.CCforP.org).
I got my first Pembroke Welsh Corgi 3 years ago. His name is Porter Lliam and was bred in Chester, SC. I got my second Corgi, Penny Lou, from the Edisto Island Corgi Rescue in January 2009. They are both very sweet. Porter has lived a very spoiled life, while Penny had a rough start. They are both very happy now though.
Hi Stacy! Thank you for the friend invite! And a big Thank You for your service to our country! Your dogs are adorable, I love the pictures! What happened to Penny...poor baby! I hope she is doing better!
Great to see you here! I just invited my friend here, Cheryl, who is an ACTUAL Corgi owner, as opposed to me ... a non-Corgi owner with a bunch of mutts, who's just trying to earn cool points in an online Corgi group.
Hey – is it still too late to send donations to Pennies for Penny? Should I use the King Street address or send via PayPal ... what works best?
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond ... we're moving this week so it's been a bit crazy.
