    Hi Mike,

I wanted to say thanks for all the effort and great work your organization has done for the corgis. My husband and I adopted Mac (aka Bam Bam or Big Mac) a year ago from your rescue and we couldn't be happier. He's a wonderful corgi and still working on loosing a couple of pounds.

Hi Mike! I just wanted to let you know that per your suggestion, I started a separate thread on the DNA testing for degenerative myelopathy. It's in the Corgi Health section.

The initial results are still coming back; however, you may be surprised to know that in one study where they used healthy Corgis as a control against those with a DM diagnosis, the healthy Corgis showed a homogenous occurence rate for the DM variant at 59%, a carrier rate of an additional 35%, and a "clear" rate (neither affected or carriers) of only 6%.

As I say in the thread, we still have minimal results, so it's too early to mention a trend, but it is not looking positive that selectively breeding out this trait will be possible within the next few dozen generations. obviously you can't breed carriers and affected dogs to clear dogs, if clears only make up 6% of the population.

Thanks for the suggestion to start a new thread; it pushed me to do a lot more looking into the situation. I enjoy those sorts of conversations.
