It will be great to eat either of those vegetarian dishes.  I always am concerned when I go to a potluck that there will be meat in everything.  Why do meat eaters add bacon to everything?  You understand.  At least I know that you and I will bring a veggie item and there is always DESSERT!

I am lucky because my dog trainer has become a friend.  She is a veggie and has vegetarian only potlucks.  Also, she hosts a day after Thanksgiving veggie potluck every year at a cabin she rents in the woods near our town.  AND the dogs are invited as well. It has become my favorite holiday tradition.

When it gets closer to October 14th, I will decide what to make.

At the dog trainers potluck in August I plan to bring a new dish.  I just got the recipe from my friend who is the best cook I know.  If it goes over well, I might make that for the Corgi picnics in September & October.  The salad is 5 different beans with a sweet oil and vinegar sauce.  My friend made it for me last year and I liked it.  It travels well and you need to make it a day ahead to mix the flavors.  That would be good since I will have tons to do the day of the picnic.

I am bringing two salads to the picnic on Sunday.  One is my black bean salad and the other is a pasta salad with feta cheese, lemon, peas, etc.  I decided against the 5 bean salad since I made it for the other picnic and I had a lot left over.  Apparently, not many people were interested in it.  So, I am back to the black bean, corn, & tomato salad.

Seems like last year we had a lot of desserts, so I decided to go with the 2 salads instead this year.  Also, I am bringing some chips.

    See you soon.   Lisa

I canceled the Illinois Corgi Picnic due to the weather.

I wanted to make sure you knew so you did not drive to Freeport on Sunday.

I wrote the statement below and added it to the event's discussion....

Yes, we need to cancel the picnic. :(

The shelter manager wrote me yesterday and again today and stated that it is supposed to rain all weekend and that she just assumed that we would not be having the picnic this weekend. So I wrote and told her that we will cancel.

The weather now says.... Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers. Temperature rising to near 64 by 10am, then falling to around 56 during the remainder of the day. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

So it will be windy as well as wet.

I like Stephanie's idea of sending a donation to Friend's Forever Shelter. I was thinking of doing that myself last night. Then the dog food, treats, and the paper towels I have purchased will go to my local shelter next week.

Sorry, guys. Mother nature did not cooperate this year.
