That's what they're called. Climbers take photos of the leader... so all you can see is their butt.

It's a trail built in the 1920s or 1930s to a fire lookout on a 7200' peak (Sloan Peak, the matterhorn-like thing to Gwynnie's left, is 7800').  Parts of it (not here) are exposed enough for me to put her on a harness belay, but she might be safer without it (no rope to trip over).  I've come to trust their common sense and good footing.

OH wow, brave little Corgi to stand on a ledge.  I thought it was photoshop but seems to be the real deal.
