So Moe is a little over a year old now, and him and our other dog have never had any issues. However, out of the blue last week Moe has started growling and lunging at our other dog anytime he gets…Continue

I have been taking Moe to the dog park ever since he first had all his shots, quite frequently. He has always been very playful, playing with everyone he meets. I have had problems in the past of him…Continue

Running away with things?

So moe is about 6 months old now, and his favorite thing is to find something he isn't supposed to have and then bolt outside with it. Once I realize what he has I usually follow him out there.…Continue

Help!Puppy previously walked fine, but now is scared to death?

So I live on a pretty quiet cul de sac, and I have been walking Moe with our other dog Skippy, in hopes that it will help them get along better as well as get rid of some of that puppy energy. I had…Continue

Linda replied to Laura Robertson's discussion New dog to dog food agression?
"I would agree with Bev about a trainer.  Food aggression is not good at all and can really escalate. I've been very lucky with all my dogs and only had one that showed food aggression when he was a puppy, that was my Irish wolfhound but I…"

Bev Levy replied to Laura Robertson's discussion New dog to dog food agression?
"No,  call a trainer and have a private consult. Something has caused this behavior and you should have someone with experience help you in case you are inadvertantly doing something to reinforce the behavior. Meanwhile check out Nothing In Life…"

"So Moe has only gone downhill. :( I started separating them when they ate, by putting Moe in one room and shutting the door while the other dog eats his outside. He started simply guarding it by laying down beside his food, without…"

"Put a leash on him when feeding and if he goes after the other dog stop himwith a firm no.If it continues pick up his food and put him in another room until the other dog is done. No more food until next meal time."

"I have to feed my Ace completely separate from my other dog. And he never gets food from a bowl, even - he'll growl and charge if he thinks she's even looking in his direction. Or if the wind is blowing funny. He has a pretty intensely…"

"See I do feed them on opposite sides, but in the same room, and if Moe even sees our other dog looking at him he'll run over there and growl. However, I was doing a trick session with them both and at the end I let them lick the plate the…"

Beth replied to Laura Robertson's discussion New dog to dog food agression?
"It's not a dominance thing, or a lack of confidence; in a pack situation, any canid will defend its own food that it has in its possession. I would just keep them on opposite sides of the room to feed them. Dogs shouldn't have to worry…"

Bev Levy replied to Laura Robertson's discussion New dog to dog food agression?
"I think this is a difficult instinct to change. My Sparty was that way (he was great with other dogs as long as no food was around) and I just made sure that I monitored feeding and did not feed them close together. I never free feed because the way…"

New dog to dog food agression?

So Moe is a little over a year old now, and him and our other dog have never had any issues. However, out of the blue last week Moe has started growling and lunging at our other dog anytime he gets near his food. He isn't aggressive at all towards humans, I can take his food away no problem. I used to free feed them both, but maybe a month ago I stopped doing that and started doing meal times. But he didn't show any issues until maybe about 2-3 weeks into doing meal times, so I don't think it's…See More

Laura Robertson replied to Amy Christensen's discussion I am almost ready to give up on my corgi puppy as much as that pains me!
"I wouldn't give up! Moe was a handful at 4.5 months, and a nightmare around 7 months. BUT he has gotten so much better recently! He is about 10 months old now, and the majority of the problems I had with him are so much more manageable. I…"

"I attended puppy classes with him a couple months ago where he learned the basics like sit, name recall, ect. However he pretty much only listens to me if he thinks I'm holding food at this point. Maybe I should retake some classes again."

Ludi replied to Laura Robertson's discussion Puppy acting very aggressively for the first time, HELP!
"It sounds like he is over his "gentleman behavior" threshold in dog parks. I have become less and less a fan of them because of the sheer over-stimulation present in many dogs there. Go back to basics with Moe: on-leash interaction in a…"
