It's Birthday Time!!!

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 4:46pm 18 Comments

Today is Franklin's 4th birthday!!! Wow we have come a long way together! He is the best companion in the entire world and I couldn't ask for a better best friend! For his birthday he got some new rawhides, a new squeaker toy (which he thinks is the best thing in the WHOLE world), and will be getting a special dinner and some new Kong tennis balls! I have to work today but tomorrow we plan to celebrate in style if the weather holds. We did a fun birthday romp on the river yesterday for a few…

Day 5 with the nameless puppy....

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 8:12pm 13 Comments

So I've had puppy for 5 days now, he still has no name. Today my favorites are: Crash, Dyson, Ditto, or Kirby. Crash because he is clumsy as all get out, Ditto because he mimics Franklin's every move, Dyson or Kirby because he is a little corgi vacuum and his future shedding will likely keep one or both of those companies in business.

He has been SUCH a good boy so far! He does chew/shred stuff if not being watched. The other day I was studying in the living room and he was…

Happy 3rd Birthday Franklin!

Posted on February 18, 2012 at 10:03pm 6 Comments

Today was Franklin's 3rd birthday. To celebrate I took him to his favorite dog beach with a few of his good buddies. He got to run and play for a bit but it was SOOOOOOO WINDY today so we didn't stay very long. I have never been to the beach on such a windy day and I was pretty bummed since we were planning on a beach day for him to run and play and wear himself out, but the wind was blowing the sand right in his face and nobody was really enjoying themselves at all. He a small piece of…

Just wanted to let you know that we've received a copy of Franklin's book.  My children love it!  My youngest can't seem to say his name, yet, but she refers to him as "Sprinkle" or "Sprinklin" and she loves searching for him in the pictures!  Great book!  :)

I am back for the end of the day report.  The item ID at White Dog Bone is: WH000148 entitled Wholesome Hide USA Rawhide Superthick Retriever Roll Dog Chew (10").  They are so large that the dogs were astounded.  As I mentioned earlier Reese did a lot of growling even after Randy had taken his to another room.  I finally thought she considered it prey and was growling at it.  I'm not sure she has enough voice left to bark.  She got herself into every possible position/contortion she could think of to better attack and make progress.  When I last collected them, hers was significantly smaller than Randy's.  Although I think he had a good time, he is not as big a chewer as she is. I think in part Reese may have been growling because she couldn't gulp it down!!! Success!!  I may post pics tomorrow after I check to see which blog the reference was in.  They are both very tired dogs!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Melissa,  Each dog has developed his/her own technique with the hide rolls.  I had to go to Birmingham so I took the rolls away from them and then fed them "on time" when I got home.  Then Randy growled after eating which I thought was associated with the rolls so I gave each their own and growled quite a bit but Randy finally went to the bed room so she seems calming some.  I do think they are the things that will help save her teeth and keep them occupied, although I may have to take them away at times.

Melissa,  The super Wholesome Hide rolls arrived this morning and I nearly fainted because they are so big and the rawhide that was rolled is very think.  I think it will be great if they learn how to chew on them. I am wondering if I am going to have to return the other 4 for smaller ones but I hope not.  Even Reese is looking frustrated but is trying to work on hers but she can hear noises from another room where Randy is working on his so we will see what happens.  They certainly succeed in providing something that will require slow chewing.  Reese is my gulper and she is frustrated because she can't gulp a large mouthful down, where as Randy is patiently chewing away!!  This will be interesting to see how it goes.

Melissa, I found Wholesome Hide retriever super rolls on whitedogbone.com for about $5 for a 10" roll.  I am hoping that that will be something that will slow Reese down. Lois

I really like the pic of Frank in his booties with the mountain backdrop.  Kinda looks like eastern WA. He's a striking-looking dog.  Try a cooling vest if he gets hot.  I think the Chillybuddy works, but you need a custom size to fit a corgi -- or cut down the girth strap on a Medium.

I may try those fleece booties.  Beca (& Mishka) was kind enough to give me a set of RuffWear booties.  Will have to modify them a bit.

Been wondering how things are going? Is Kirby settling in or is he getting back to his holy terror self?
