Cocosette will be turning one year old next month! Time flies when a corgi is around. Feels like I've had her for much longer, can't imagine life without her. I've had two dogs in the past, Gertude who lasted 10 years and Laika for 16 years, and I loved those dogs like crazy. But I don't think either of them have ever been as much my dog as Cocosette has become.

I've had two dogs in the past, Gertude who lasted 10 years and Laika for 16 years, and I loved those dogs like crazy. But I don't think either of them have ever been as much my dog as Cocosette has become.

When I was researching corgis before I got Cocosette, the most common warning I came across was not to overfeed them and to guard against them becoming overweight. I must have accidentally acquired the one finicky-eater corgi because at 11 months now Cocosette only weighs in at 15.4 lbs. Granted, her mother was a mere 18 lbs, but I expecting to adopt a food vacuum. There's not one single food stuff that Cocosette will gobble up consistently. She loves a bite or two off our plates ( a practice I've tried to keep to a minimum) but will leave a bowl full of kibble alone for days. We've gone through several brands of kibble --Blue, Taste of the Wild, Puppy Chow, various canned-- but she's not big on any of them. She does like plain old Milk Bones but I worry because they are not nutritionally complete. Does anyone have any advice?

Despite the finicky eating, my girl is strong and always full of energy. She loves to jump on the furniture. We're going to have to work on discouraging that, I know. It's hard right now though because she jumps with ease and seems to love it. Her favorite maneuver is to race across the living room, jump and slide across the ottoman and then land on the sofa (or the unfortunate sitting on the sofa at the time), all the while grinning like maniac. I'm beginning to wonder if this is her way of telling me she'd like to do agility training.

This warm weather we've been having has been a blessing, making trips to the park much easier. Cocosette runs big circles around me as I walk the track. Last week Cocosette found a live crawdad in the yard that must have been washed out of his (her?) hole. The two of them put on quite the show, doing battle. Cocosette has the heart of a matador(a), each time daring to come in closer and closer for a nip while avoiding the claws, lol. She went searching for the crawdad the next day, but it looks like a bird or a cat got to it. Only half was left, poor thing.
Time flies, Cocosette swims!tag:mycorgi.com,2011-07-15:1150197:BlogPost:11668322011-07-15T20:22:01.000ZDurri Bakhthttp://mycorgi.com/profile/DurriBakht
Can't believe my fur-baby is 13 weeks old now. She's growing overnight, it seems like. Every morning I wake to a larger dog. Even had to buy her a new collar as she'd outgrown the first one. I must say, for a medium-small dog, corgis have thick necks!

Our weekend trips to the lake are paying off; Cocosette swam out twice to me. So cute! All you see are her ears and little nose sticking out of the water. Digging in the sand is her favorite activity, though. She managed to get half way to China last Saturday.

Our first vet visittag:mycorgi.com,2011-06-14:1150197:BlogPost:11025302011-06-14T01:51:27.000ZDurri Bakhthttp://mycorgi.com/profile/DurriBakht

Took Cocosette to the vet for a puppy check-in. She was mostly calm about the entire affair-- the weighing, nail clipping, temp taking (Ay!) and the doc's exam. Her only objections were to the shot and, oddly enough, the dose of de-wormer. I've only had her for a week, but she's already growing like a weed; added another pound since her last weigh-in. The vet had lovely, soft hands manipulating Cocosette and gave me some…

I've only had her for a week, but she's already growing like a weed; added another pound since her last weigh-in. The vet had lovely, soft hands manipulating Cocosette and gave me some sage advice regarding some things I'd already been doing wrong --no more Dentastix, no more baby shampoo, no more hard Nylabone. I left feeling a bit dense but pleased with Cocosette's progress.

Last weekend we went to the lake for a while. Cocosette, not a fan of the water, enjoyed romping on the sand instead. My longer-term aim is to get her to balance on the boogie board so she can be a hip doggie! I suspect it's gonna take several summers.

We finally got our potato home yesterday after much anticipation. We picked her out three weeks ago and were surprised that she hadn't grown much. Our last dog, Laika, was a samoyed who seemed to grow an inch in every direction every day. No matter, Cocosette is absolutely precious and appears to be a quick and eager learner! I didn't expect to get much sleep last night, new home and all, but she settled right into her crate and didn't utter a peep until 6:30 or so this morning. After a trip outside, breakfast, and a return trip to the lawn, Cocosette was ready to party, feisty and hopping around like a bunny on espresso, lol.

I'm very happy I finally took the plunge and got Cocosette, after hemming and hawing for half a year. Five years is a long time to go without a dog.
