I can't believe it! When it snowed the first time, I was happy with the little half inch that we got. This time we got about 6 inches!! It was so great! I haven't seen snow like that since I was little, and even that was only once. Yumi was the first to go out and explore since she had to use the bathroom. She bolted out the door as always only to stop short at the grass, amazed at the winter wonderland spread before her! She looked at me for approval then dashed out into the snow, bouncing through it and kicking it into the air, snapping at the snow as it fell back to the ground. She absolutely LOVES to catch snowballs, I actually got a pic of her in mid-catch (see my photos ^^)! It was very fun watching her play and playing with her in the snow, and I loved watching her and my son explore even more! They set off together in exploration of the yard, stopping and checking out everything to see how the snow sat upon it. They even had a snowball fight, Ian throwing snowballs at her and Yumi running up and sliding to a stop in front of him, making snow fly up onto his jacket. Awesome snow day, awesome playtime, I hope we get a few more of these this year!!! <br/>Month 5 of Corgi goodness!tag:mycorgi.com,2010-01-23:1150197:BlogPost:5993772010-01-23T14:46:18.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
We got our little Yumi back in August. She was extremely shy and wasn't too sure about us or her new home. Now, 5 months later, you wouldn't know that she was the same dog! Yumi is so bouncy it is unreal, lol. Whether it's time to eat, time to potty, or I just get up to go to the next room she is right there bouncing and spinning and just being a happy pup! She's still a bit shy around people she doesn't know, but a tummy scratch fixes that and she's instantly your best friend. She is a MAJOR momma's girl, lol. She always has to be right there beside me, no matter where I'm going or what I'm doing. If she's shut out of a room I'm in she will sit outside the door and whine and cry until she is let in. She also only really listens to me. She'll do pretty much anything I ask her to, from "sit" to "stay" to "go get your toy!" My husband gets annoyed with her sometimes because he can ask her if she needs to go outside or tell her to sit and she'll just look at him funny. It's hilarious! She is also one of the best babysitters ever. I don't leave my 3 year old alone at home with her of course, but when I'm busy in the kitchen or otherwise she trots along behind him all throughout the house, playing with him and "herding" him. She doesn't like being too far out of my sight so she'll block his path and sometimes tug on his shirt, pants, or pull-up and keep him close by (imagine having to explain that to your freaked out mother-in-law who swears that Yumi just tried to bite him). Christmas was very fun, she had presents under the tree right along with the rest of us and had no problem opening them on her own once I showed her it was ok. She got new toys, a jacket (I don't do doggy clothes, but Ian put a shirt on her when I wasn't looking once and she loved it! So...), and a new harness and leash. She stood proudly over her presents as I took her picture, so cute! We got a surprise present on Christmas, however. My niece came in asking for help, saying there was a kitten stuck in the pine tree of the empty house across the street. We went outside and the poor little guy was stuck way up high, we figure a dog chased him up there. We managed to get him down and I volunteered to care for him until we could find his owners or a new owner for him. I was a bit worried though about how he would react to Yumi. Yumi LOVES cats, she won't bite them, she just wants to lick them, lol, but she runs up to them quickly and in doing so freaks them out to where they won't give her a chance. So when I brought the kitten in I made her wait until he was calmed down. He slept for a few hours then finally decided to get up and explore a bit. I picked him up and made Yumi sit down until I was sitting with him and then let her slowly approach. I didn't restrain him in case he decided to run from her so he could get away easily and I could catch her. But to my surprise he just gets up, walks straight up to her and rubs his cheek on her shoulder, much to her complete delight. She immediately assaults him with licks, lol, which he calmly stood there and accepted. I suppose his previous owner had a dog, so it was no big deal to him. I asked around the neighborhood and put ads up online about him to try and find his owner, but never found them. My husband asked what we were going to do with him as we were walking into the room one night. We look on the bed to find our son, Yumi, and the kitten in a dog pile on the bed, fast asleep. I looked at him and grinned, he just shook his head and laughed. We have since named him Shoji and he is very much Yumi's pet more than ours, lol. She grooms him and plays with him and shares her toys. He curls up to her, kneads his paws on her, and occasionally when half asleep he will try and suckle on her like she's his mom, lol. I've been very proud of how well she acts around him. Even with her new pet, though, she still puts me before anything else. If I move, she moves. She's like a second shadow, lol. She is just so amazingly fun to have around, she keeps us laughing during the day and warm during the night when she insists on curling up with us. I fell in love with my first corgi at age 7 when my mom worked as a vet assistant. Her boss had a red and white corgi named Red that I got to play with a lot and I have wanted my own corgi ever since. Now, after 17 years, I finally got my wish and I must say, she was well worth the wait!It's snowing!!!tag:mycorgi.com,2009-12-05:1150197:BlogPost:5715922009-12-05T04:28:48.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
I live in Jackson, MS and we barely ever get ANY snow and when we do it's just a little bit. But tonight it's snowing wonderfully! We've got an inch or two already out there and it's still early on in the night so I'm hoping we'll get alot more before morning so we can play a lot tomorrow! I went ahead and took my son, Ian, out to play and Yumi tagged along as well. While Ian was busy pegging me with snowballs, Yumi was running fast circles around the yard, bounding here and there trying to catch the snow! She made corgi crop circles all throughout the yard, lol. I'm looking forward for the morning so we can all go play some more and I can get lots of good pictures!!What was that?!?tag:mycorgi.com,2009-11-30:1150197:BlogPost:5681012009-11-30T12:00:41.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
Yumi follows me EVERYWHERE I go, even if it's just to the next room. She hates being out of my sight and will whimper and whine unless she knows I'm gone in the car. This being said, Yumi followed me to the bathroom this morning. As I'm finishing up my morning business, I happen to glance down at her just as she lets out a tiny little fart! Now, I've never actually HEARD a dog fart before, it's usually an SBD (silent but deadly), lol, so this was already funny enough for me as the fart she let…

But to make things even funnier, she jumped at her own fart, then put her head down close to her little rump to try and figure out just what in the world made that noise!! I think she got too close too soon though, because she immediately crinkled her nose a bit and turned away, lmao.Brokentag:mycorgi.com,2009-11-11:1150197:BlogPost:5566392009-11-11T21:40:12.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
So I'm sitting here on my computer playing around on Facebook when Ian starts yelling, "Momma, Momma!" I turn to look at him and ask, "What is it?" He points at a belly up, fast asleep Yumi then says, "Momma, Momma! Yumi broken!!" He then proceeds to pat her belly again (which usually wakes her up and is followed by her pouncing and licking all over him) but she is so comfy I guess that she is completely oblivious to his actions! It was sooooo funny, I wish I could've caught that one on camera…

We've had her almost 2 months now and Yumi still never ceases to make me laugh everyday with something new. She has really come a long way from the shy little pup I brought home! She's still a bit timid around people she doesn't know all that well, but a tummy rub usually brings her right around. ^^ Otherwise she is a complete and total spaz! She's always hopping, bouncing, and spinning around, doing everything she can to keep my attention focused on her and her alone. If I go into another room without her and close the door, she sits outside it pawing underneath and sighing every once in awhile really loudly. If I'm asleep and she has to go outside, she inches her way up to my face and bumps my chin with her nose, whining at me that she's gotta go. As soon as I crack an eye open to look at her she's up and on the floor, doing her "I gotta pee" dance at full speed! She loves her family and has a special eye for my fluffy cat, Kichiro. She muffles him every time she sees him, making his fur stick out in various directions. He doesn't mind though, he's a laid back kitty and takes it all in good fun. She's also the only dog that can get away with licking my 3 year old son, Ian, in the face. He giggles and laughs when she does it, but will walk away from any other dog that tries. When it's time for bed she waits til we settle in then hops up and finds her an empty spot at our feet. When my husband gos to work in the morning though, she curls up next to me, either against my back with her head flung back across my face or belly up in front of me so that I can scratch it when I wake up. I'm so happy we were able to make her a part of our family!!Squeaky Heaventag:mycorgi.com,2009-09-19:1150197:BlogPost:5226732009-09-19T23:46:59.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
Yumi is now the proud owner of a squeaky toy shaped like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup pack (got pics up of her with it ^^)! She absolutely ADORES her squeaky and will come running no matter where she is if I pick it up and squeak it. So cute!!! I think I might have to go buy 2 or 3 more like it to keep hidden somewhere just in case something happens to this one, she's become VERY attatched for only having it 2 days. She has to go find it and put it in the bed with her before she goes to sleep!…

She has to go find it and put it in the bed with her before she goes to sleep! My favorite action so far though is her "Pretend it's not there then attack!!" She'll be chewing on it then will stop and turn away and lay down like she's not interested anymore. She'll sit there a minute acting like she doesn't know it's even there but sneaking a peek every few seconds to make sure it is. Then she'll jump around really quick, snort at it, then POUNCE!!!! It's so hilarious!!! I can't wait to see what other little games she comes up with ^^Good morning Yumi!tag:mycorgi.com,2009-09-14:1150197:BlogPost:5188072009-09-14T03:30:00.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
My guess at what Yumi may have been thinking this morning ^^<br />
<br />
*Stretches and opens her eyes* Hmm, I wonder what my humans are doing? *Looks around* Ah, I see Dad has gone again this morning, I wonder where he goes everyday? Oh well, I see that my littlest human is still here and sleeping and, oh! Mom's still here! Yay! I wonder when she'll wake up? Maybe if I... *Rolls over onto her tummy (she likes sleeping on her back) and inches forward a bit* Nope, no good, still sleeping. Ugh, I gotta go…

Take me out! *Inches foward a bit more til her nose is touching my shoulder* Should I bark at her? No, then I'll wake the little one, don't wanna do that. Should I lick her? Yea, that might work! Then again, I might scare her. Hmmm. Maybe if I stare at her long enough she'll realize I'm awake? *STARE STARE STARE STARE STARE STARE STARE* Hey, she's moving a bit! Come on, look at me, look at me! Yes! Her eyes are opening!! Ok, be cute, she's gotta take me outside if I'm being cute. *Stares up at me with those big brown eyes and begins to wag her little nub furiously* YES!! IT WORKED!! Outside, outside, outside, outside!! Let's go! Come on, you know you can come curl back up in bed when I'm done, let's go! *Bounces out of bed and to the door, doing her "I gotta pee" dance* Woo! We've had our Yumi now for a little over 2 weeks and she is the most awesome little dog ever! She has become COMPLETELY attached to me and follows me everywhere I go. She loves all the rest of her family too, but she's a huge momma's girl! ^^ She stands up on her hind legs sometimes and gives me a "kiss" on my cheek, just one small lick as she reaches my cheek and then drops back down wiggling that nub. It's so adorable, I hope she never grows out of it! And wow, if only every dog was so easily…

It's so adorable, I hope she never grows out of it! And wow, if only every dog was so easily housebroken!! She's had only 3 accidents since we've been home, and those were only because I overslept. I've made sure to set myself an early alarm now to make sure she gets outside when she needs to and we've been accident free (plus she does her best to wake me up, nothing like a wiggly corgi licking you to death to get you up and motivated, lol). Gah, the cuteness is so overwhelming, from those gorgeous little brown eyes to that oh so cute little wiggly nub of a tail that goes off at the slightest glance in her direction. Oh and she LOVES to dance!! Hopping, spinning, prancing, she does it all! Then when she wears herself out she goes and stretches out belly up on our bed. I had originally planned to have her a little bed on the floor next to ours, but I couldn't help letting her snuggle with us the first night or two she was home to make her feel comfy and welcome and well, now she's a regular addition to our bed, lol. It's really low to the ground so she has no trouble getting up and down when she wants and she even covers herself up! I did it first on accident and quickly pulled the cover back (I've only had one or two animals that have liked being covered), but she wasn't having that, she sat up and grabbed the cover with her mouth and yanked it back over her, tucking it in around herself. So cute!! I'm gonna have to get her a little blanket when I get a chance, I think I have some of Ian's old baby blankets packed away somewhere, she might like one of them. I still can't believe I finally got a corgi of my own and I'm so happy that I did! She's such a great little girl and she charms everyone that meets her, even my Mom, who isn't a fan of smaller dogs. Nobody can resist that cute little dancing pup and everyone wants her! Thank God for corgis!!! ^^My first Corgi!!tag:mycorgi.com,2009-08-25:1150197:BlogPost:5057212009-08-25T21:55:33.000ZKrickethttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Kricket
We just got our first corgi!!! She's a 4 month old tri-colored Pembroke (I have pics up!) and we love her so much! We've named her Yumi but I want to make her registered name from her parents. I just can't decide on what name though! Her sire is Little Red Speedy and the dam is Lily Red Flo. So I was thinking maybe Little Red Lily? But I would like to include Yumi in her registered name as well, I just can't think of a good combination. Maybe Flo's Little Yumi? Or Little Red Yumi? Lily's Speedy…
