I don't know how many of you remember that I rescued two Corgis on Mothers Day 2011...I was losing my Emma Anne to DM and was heart broken and God answered with showing me this Corgi rescue here in VA close by.
I don't know how many of you remember that I rescued two Corgis on Mothers Day 2011...I was losing my Emma Anne to DM and was heart broken and God answered with showing me this Corgi rescue here in VA close by. Katie (her name before was K9!!!) had been attacked by a large animal and almost died from infection/maggots since her former owner did not take he to the Vet til the last moment...her son Jack (formerly Prince Arthur) was OK but obviously negelected. Both these Corgis were scared to death and we had an uphill job to help them heal and become REAL Corgis! Jack came around first altho he is still petrified of crumpling bags, ripping alum foil and scarey noises like that and gets nervous with thunder and gunshots (they lived outside in a run...such an awful life!)...Katie would hide all the time and after awhile would only come to me after I chased her around for a while. They both were afraid when my son would come home (being 6'plus and a typical loud 26 year old!), they would hide in the closet...again Jack came around, but we never see Katie if Eric was around. Well here is the good news!!!

This past week he and DIL came over to watch Bears/Packers game....Katie actually came out in the family room and GOT ON THE SOFA with me and him!!!! Hooray for small miracles!

And since they were never socialized and Kate esp is afraid of everyone, when I can I take her to events...she's been fine at friends houses, just hangs around me....Tonite was the BIG test...I took them both with me to hubby's hunt club for the family picnic and she not only didn't hide, she let KIDS pet her and give her treats!!! SUCCESS!!!

So I guess the point to all this is for those of you that have rescued a Corgi that is shy, scared, nervous....just be patient, give them room and LOTS OF LOVE!!!! It does work out, and I am so happy for it!

Wish I had my camera for pics...they were so cute sitting together looking at all these ppl:)
Good Bye my sweet Emma Annetag:mycorgi.com,2011-08-11:1150197:BlogPost:12242402011-08-11T14:58:25.000ZNancy Bauerhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/NancyBauer

I realized today as I answered a discussion I have not updated you on what has happened here at the farm. Two weeks ago we said goodbye to my sweet love, Emma Anne. She turned 10 in March and was fighting thru DM. About May she was only able to "seal walk" around the house and used her wheel-cart outside. At first she would zip along to the barn, then she took to just barking from the front door of the house and slowly would make herself to the barn, stopping many times to lay and rest in the cart. Next she was losing bladder control and was getting very depressed. Ears hanging to the side, sparkle gone from her bright eyes. She was not a happy camper. We tried to keep diapers on her in the house but they would come off if she slid on the carpet. Got to where she would just lay and wait for dinner.

Watching her go thru this was so hard. When she got to where her front legs were getting weaker I knew it was time. My wonderful vet came to the house and I sat in the recliner holding Emma as we sent her off to the Rainbow Bridge. She is buried under the big Oak on the farm with 2 of my other loved dogs. I know she is running and playing happily at the bridge and I will see her again.

Some of you may remember but on Mothers Day I rescued 2 Pembrokes, Jack and Katie. Kate has healed well and they are much loved part of our family now. I know God had his hand in this rescue as He knew Emma was not well and I would need a corgi to help me grieve.

RIP my sweetie pie, I will love you forever Emma Anne!
And then there were 3 - CORGIS Update!tag:mycorgi.com,2011-06-13:1150197:BlogPost:11000112011-06-13T03:19:50.000ZNancy Bauerhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/NancyBauer

Just a quick update to let you know how Katie and Jack, my rescues, are coming along. Jack, the 2 year old tri son, is just "Happy Jack"...he is a clown and runs and plays and is completely house broken now. He has attached him self to me and is coming along great with hubby, grandma, son, etc. I actually love his long tail and it helps me find him if he is in the garden!…

Katie is recovering well from her injuries. She is 3 going on 4 and a tan and white. For those that haven't followed, Katie was attacted by something large and had many severe injuries, punctures on her lower back. The previous owner did nothing until she was so sick from infection took her to a vet. She also had maggots and they had to trim away dead skin from her back almost halfway up. At least the owner was kind enough to contact Corgi rescue and I saw it on the wheelcorgi site (I have a 10 year old Emma with DM and in a cart outside) Her back was raw and awfull looking when I got her and my vet did 6 cold lazer treatments and I did water treatments and her fur is growing back at a wonderful rate. She is very sweet but oh so skiddish! I wonder what happened to her from her 2 previous owners. Only now am I and only I, able to pick her up and sit with her (she falls asleep from the petting) and she sleeps in bed cuddled up to me. I want my elderly mom to have her for a time, but I am not sure how this will work. I may have to wait til mom has her hip replacment as the cane she uses scares Katie to death. Again makes me wonder what happened to her.

Any words of advise about this skiddishness would be appreciated, I know time and love will make the difference. Even tho it is alot of work, esp for me having RA and such, I am sure glad I did this...so I encourage anyone out there to think about rescues when adding to their families!!

Corgi luv from Katie, Jack & Emma (the wheelcorgi:)
And then there were 3 - CORGIS! Now an Excellent adventure!tag:mycorgi.com,2011-05-12:1150197:BlogPost:10324132011-05-12T02:32:11.000ZNancy Bauerhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/NancyBauer

OK, its been 72 hours since the "rescue"...if you read my first blog, I took them to my vet and they were unbelieveabley fine, only hookworms for Jack, no Lymes, heartworm etc. Whew breathed a sigh of relief...

…

My 10 year old DM Emma has gotten closer to them, they have touched noses. My lab and setter are "so what ever" about them! LOL I think eventually the rescues will feel more at home and make friends with Emma, they are still kind of scared of her, for what ever reason. Maybe cause she can't walk and "seal walks" to them?

So here is the "excellent adventure" of newly rescued Jack & Katie....this late afternoon I went down to the garden to water and then spray Round-up on the weeds in the paths...the newbees came out and Emma was on the porch. I let the lab out thru the garage to get "treats from dad up at his barn after work" as usual...so I am down in the garden maybe 20 minutes, came up expecting to see the 2 corgis at their door...hmmm, weren't there....came in the house and called, no corgis except Emma on the porch...then I noticed the door to the garage was a jar...OMG, they got out.....freak out! They don't know where they are at yet, a major highway is less than a mile...OMG!

I call my hubby who is up at the other barn, he tells me to calm down (I thought I was under control:(~ he will help look....I call and call and then my one horse who is kept in his own pasture (fat control) was looking out front...sure enough, there was Jack and Katie running along the far pasture fence! Thank you Harley! I ran out, over the fence (mind you I have RA and over fences is not easy...) and finally Jack came to me..now how to get him over the fence....I shoved him under and Katie followed, Jack went back under but Katie headed for the house and Jack followed until I could catch him and carry him....YIKES, my joints will be hurting tomorrow but they are safe and sound again until they know their home! I was really scared they were gone...

Katies sores are healing well, more lazer tomorrow....Jack is a lover and wants to be around you at all times...he is rather cute with his full tail (although I still prefer it docked, just for the tradional look) I am so glad I did this, what would have happened to them in red-neck city VA humane society I don't want to think about! Now to get Emma up to speed with this and all will be perfect! And of course my sons 10 month old choc lab who doesn't seem to get it when doggies say NO! A circus around here at most times...at least the horses are easy:)

Kiss your corgi(s) and love them all, they are soooo special and I am enjoying the days I have with my Emma as DM is taking over...that sucks...but she will be taken care of with love!

Our best, Nancy Emma Jack & Katie

Love from: Nancy, Emma, Jack & Katie CORGIS RULE:)
And now there are 3 - CORGIS!tag:mycorgi.com,2011-05-10:1150197:BlogPost:10288412011-05-10T03:00:44.000ZNancy Bauerhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/NancyBauer

Just rescued/adopted 2 wonderful pembrokes - the momma is turning 4 and has some serious lower back/rump injuries...the previous owner did finally take her to a vet and they removed lots of dead skin due to infection and maggots (YUCK)...my vet is now doing cold lazer therapy and I swear after 1 treatment her skin/sores look so much better. I am to do water therapy at home with flushes of warm water 5 minutes a day. Continue anti-biotics and she is on a diet (healthy one)...seems her previous just threw cheap chow in a bowl and eat what you want, how sad:( She never had any vaccines until this injury and then got a 3 year rabies...WTH?)

Her son, which we ended up paying for, is just a doll. Tri-color and looks like my Emma! He is very wide and flat and they didn't dock his tail so it is long and waggy. He is also a doll-baby and enjoying the extra attention, I don't think they got lots of that! He and his mom are "fixed" but more than likely by a drive-by -clinic which is better than nothing. He never had any vaccines other than the first puppy rabies which they offer around here for $5 at a clinic.

So they both had the works done today at my favorite vet, heartworm/lymes/etc free altho Jack the son had some hookworms. My vet felt very fortunate that was all that either had, sometimes these neglected ones have all kinds of problems.

So number #1, my Emma, is not quite so sure about these new comers! First of all Emma has DM and altho can sort of get around, has a hard time. We are getting her used to her wheel-cart (special ordered from Eddie's Wheels...great job) she still has some use of her hind legs so I let her do what she can. Iwonder if she sees these 2 corgis getting around with no problem and wonders about herself. She is such a sweetie and is being strong thru this DM process...lot me tell you it SUCKS to watch your wonderful friend have problems like this! She gets embarrassed and frusterated I am sure:(~ I have RA and I guess Emma and I can relate!

My elderly mom will be taking Katie (the injured corgi) for a while. We just had to put down her 13 plus year old mutt, but Katie will eventually end up here and in the meantime have lots of visitis, Jack will stay with me and Emma (and Trav the 12 year old yellow lab and Squirt the 11 year old English Setter)...should be interesting journey...maybe! I will keep up on this blog, there are so many fun things to write about with corgis....and chickens! But that is another story in that!

Bestest Wishes to all...Nancy, Emma, Jack and Katie & the Foxwood gang!
