Hope everybody is having a very Merry Christmas! Jeter and Cappy love Christmas. They ate the doggy biscuits I baked for them, several little pieces of Christmas ham, and other Christmas treats. They were so excited to get new toys. We went to see the Christmas lights at night. And today is Jeter's birthday, too. He is now 4 years old! Happy birthday, my little buddy!!

This morning I took my corgis out. Usually my husband walks the dogs in the morning but today is his birthday so I gave him some more time to sleep. And I met Alice the pug.

I saw her on the way to throw out the poop bag. She sat on the grass near our neighbor’s house. She was off leash and there was no sign of the owner. Jeter and Cappy were curious about her but I wasn’t sure what to do. She looked dirty but I could see that dog was someone’s lost pet not a stray. She seemed to be happy to see us and followed us. I never had this kind of experience, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t bring my cell phone and it was impossible to check her ID tag with my two corgis. So I went back home and she followed. My plan was to get my corgis in the house, grab the phone and a leash and go out again to find the dog. When I went into the house Alice was sitting outside of my door.. But when I looked out again, she was gone. I felt terrible. What if something bad happened to that dog?

I talked about that dog to my husband and we went out together. I found her again not that far away. We tried to catch her using some treats but she would only take the treat and run, this happened several times!! I was able to get near her, but it took some time to get her leashed. Her collar had 3 tags. One is the rabies tag for this year and other two are name tags with phone numbers. We tried the first number and it was disconnected. Uh-oh. The second number, we got voice mail and left a message. There was one more number and we were finally able to reach the owner. The third time’s the charm My husband told the excited dog owner where we are. And about 10 minutes later, Alice was reunited with her anxious but happy owner

The owner – we forgot to ask his name – was running out of the car calling his dog’s name. He hugged me and thank us so many times. Alice was lost since last night. Alice’s dog walker took her out and somehow she got off leash and ended up here. The owner lives in the near suburb. I don’t know how this little girl came to Chicago. But after a long cold night she smelled bad. I think she took a roll in something stinky! When I check her tags, my fingers got covered with some smelly stuff. She will get a good bath and much needed medicine, too. I was so happy we were able to help this little dog. Her owner wanted to reward us and offered money. But we didn’t want to take. It was the right thing to do as a dog owner. But he insisted on giving us something. After several times we said “no thank you” to him, he said “Then I will donate money to the charity of your choice in your name.” That sounded okay so we said yes. We said “Lakeshore Corgi Rescue”, he surprised us by saying “I’ll donate 1,000 dollars.”

He hugged me and shook hands with my husband and left. Alice was happy in her owner’s car. I felt great. We actually helped a lost dog!! Hopefully, Lakeshore Corgi Rescue will get a nice donation to help out a few more corgis. Hopefully, Alice will not get lost in “Wonderland” again.

It has been a quite stressful week for me.

As some of you know, I made 2 costumes for my corgis - Jeter and Cappy- for a Halloween costume photo contest at our doggy daycare center. I never made anything like this for my corgis before and am not good at sewing, so it took about 2 weeks. Even though it wasn't an easy project for me, I had so much fun making them and dreaming of reactions from other people.

But once the contest voting started, everything changed - not much fun, and a lot more stress. Since the voting is by using the "LIKE' button on the doggy daycare center's facebook contest page pictures, someone like me who just started to use facebook with virtually no facebook friends is at a serious disadvantage.

I didn't expect to lead the vote at all. I just wanted people to know I put some effort and love into making their costumes. But day by day, I got more obsessed and upset.

There is a dog who also entered the contest. A cute little dog wearing a costume which is the same one another dog is wearing. The owner seems to have so many friends who have facebook accounts. There's nothing wrong about it, but I wish that owner put as much energy and effort into his/her dog's costume or took an interesting picture.

I was so naive, I really thought if I made two good costumes, my corgis would be the winners.

Voting will end tomorrow. I don't know if Jeter can maintain the lead - maybe he is now trailing. Cappy is now the 3rd but to me, she deserves to be the 2nd or higher. Am I wrong to think this way?

However, I have to say the whole exprience was not all bad and stressful. I got so much love and support from my fellow corgi owners from all over the world. The power of the corgi is just so unbelievable.

One last time, I'm asking your help. These are the links to vote. If you have a facebook account and think Jeter and Cappy look good enough, please use the "like" button on the pictures.

Their robes, ties, hat, pumkin purse, and glasses are all hand sewn and handmade.

It took more than a week - I made a total of 5 robes because the first 3 robes didn't fit well :-(

"Mommy, it is so much fun!!!"

For Cappy, I originally wanted to make her a hula dancing girl so I bought some raffia from the craft store and made her skirt - boy, it took 2 days and my fingers were killing me. I got some Hawaiian leis and painted little shells pink for her little bikini top.

But sadly... this didn't look that good for her long body and she tried to eat her skirt :-( So I changed the plan. Cappy will be at corgi Hogwarts with Jeter. (I choose Luna because of her spectraspecs and the robe which has different colors from Harry's. )

The costumes were made for a Halloween costume contest at our doggy day care center - they are the only corgis there. If you have a facebook account you can vote(like) for your fellow corgis. These are the links.

"Hi everyone!! I am Cappy"

It has been a wonderful year since we adopted Jeter from Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Rescue.
Recently we were talking about getting a second corgi and were checking petfinder everyday.
Finding a corgi younger than Jeter from a rescue was not easy so we just kept searching.
One day we sent a Jeter-update email to his foster mom Yvette and found out 2 of her own corgis just had puppies.
Cappy is one of Yvette's 14 puppies from 2 litters. She is a daughter of Vanilla(red and white).
We visited the puppies when they were about 7 weeks old and on June 18th, we went there again to take a puppy to her forever home.
Yvette suggested 2 puppies (one from each litter) for us.
One is a red and white girl and one is a tri girl.
It was quite hard to pick just one because they are both so cute.
But we chose Cappy because she was the one who followed Jeter around happily and we liked her mother's composure.
Vanilla is such a calm and confident corgi.

Cappy's mom Vanilla and Jammies tri girl puppy

Yvette told us about Cappy's parents and pedigree.
Her AKC name will be 'Baker Street Vanilla Ice Cream' :-)
After saying goodbye to everyone we left Yvette's house.

Let's go home!!

Cappy's new home in Chicago is 10 hour drive round trip from her birth home in Wisconsin.
It was sunny and bright when we headed home but later we were caught in a very bad storm.
It felt like driving under the ocean.
Heavy rain kept coming down and it was so hard to see what was in front of us, not to mention lots of thunder and lightning.
But our 2 brave corgis didn't make any sound and stayed calm in the back seat.

Last few days we have been very busy with these 2 corgis.
Cappy is already doing pretty good at house training.
She already won many people's heart with her cuteness.
Jeter is leaning to live with this little girl :-)
They chase each other and play with their toys.
Hopefully Jeter and Cappy will have so much fun together more and more each day.

"I always wanted to have this flying squirrel!!"

We got him from the corgi rescue. They said he was abused, beaten and grabbed by the collar.
So the first month after we got him, when we tried to pet his head, he always backed away or turned upside down to prevent being handled.
He always kept about 3 feet from us.
But now, he loves to be petted, cuddles with us, and is a great kisser.
He walks nicely without pulling, graduated obedience class and the basic agility class with flying colors.
He never chews anything except his toys which we allowed him to chew.
We feel so lucky to have him because he is our corgi jackpot.
He makes us laugh more and we are so much happier with him.
We love you Jeter. We will have many more wonderful days with you.

Next week, one of these puppies will be Jeter's new baby sister(or brother).
Jeter does not shed any more :-)
Along with "no shedding", his poop is not stinky. His coat looks really good.
We
are not sure what exactly makes our little shedding machine to stop shedding but just assume that new food and increased exercise would be the reason.

About a month ago, we started mix new 'customized'
dog food(High Protein Lamb & Potato Fusion) to Jeter's old food(Wellness) and increased the amount of new food everyday.
It
is grain, gluten, soy, rice, wheat and corn free. Also we picked two free supplements, one of them is 'High gloss skin & coat makeover'.
His new food is not cheap (price is quite stiff) but after a month of trial we decided to order it again.

One more thing is he exercises more.
In addition to his everyday walk(3
times a day), when the winter weather is over we added more exercise for him.
Now I take him out to the forest trail at least 3-4 times a week. Each time Jeter walk/jog 3-5 miles.
Just like human runner's training, I am going to increase mileage and speed gradually.
Even though I don't register any marathon this year but still Jeter can be my running partner :-)

But I just wonder... maybe it is not the shedding season? Maybe it is just coincidental?
No matter what is the reason for "no shedding", we will keep doing what we are doing.
Wish us luck :-)
'customized' food trialtag:mycorgi.com,2010-03-31:1150197:BlogPost:6410932010-03-31T04:00:00.000ZChris and Andrewhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/ChrisandAndrew
This is our first day as a member of mycorgi.com :-)
So let us tell you about our little captain.
Hello, everyone.

This is our first day as a member of mycorgi.com :-)
So let us tell you about our little captain.

Everything started when someone offered us a female corgi in May.
We were exited because the corgi is one of my (Chris') favorite dog breeds along with the German Shepherd.
So we were kind of prepared to get that corgi but they decided to keep her.
Disappointed but determined to get a corgi, we started an online search and found 'Lakeshore Pembroke welsh corgi rescue' website.
There were about 10 corgis available and one of them, a 1 year and a half old male corgi caught my eye.
After we sent in an application, the foster mom suggested another dog for us.
On June 13th we drove to Wausau Wisconsin from Chicago to meet that corgi, and we ended up with taking the one I initially wanted.
He is a good looking red-headed tri color corgi.
Despite his young age and cuteness, he wasn't adopted and had to stay at foster home about 6 months.
Because (maybe) he does not look like a typical (?) corgi and has too much energy.
He didn't even know any basic commands like 'sit' and needed a lot of exercise and training.
(The foster mom said he can be an excellent candidate for agility competition.)

He is smaller than other corgis.
According to the foster mom, his early life was not that great.
He was from a puppy mill and abused.
He was beaten and grabbed by the collar.
So when we tried to pet his head, he always backed away or turned upside down to prevent being handled.
It was sad to see this cute little boy acted like that.
He wanted to trust people but he didn't know how.
But there was something special about him. I just couldn't take my eye off of him even though he had a wild side.
My husband (Andrew) felt the same. From the very first moment there was some kind of strong bond with him.
That afternoon, we decided to take him home not the one we went to see. (That corgi, a beautiful red and white 2 year-old male was adopted just few days later)

We named our corgi Jeter.
Yes, that Jeter. Yankees captain Derek Jeter.
I am a die-hard Yankee fan and Derek Jeter is my favorite player.
He plays hard and plays right. He is athletic and classy yet goofy and mischievous sometimes.
That's the same feeling I got from this little corgi.
Even though he has shorter legs than the human Jeter, our Jeter definitely has cutter butt :-)

It's been a wonderful 3 months. We can't imagine our life without Jeter.
He makes us laugh more. He makes us happier. He is a bundle of joy.
He is a quick learner and learned many things so fast.
He does not back away or turn upside down like before any more.
Instead he wants us to pet him more.
He amazes lots of dog owners at the dog park by his blazing speed and jumping ability.
We can't count the number of times strangers have come up to us and said "Your dog is gorgeous".
Many people didn't know he is a corgi so sometimes they asked us "Is your dog a German Shepherd puppy?" :-)
Anyway he is the cutest dog in our neighborhood.
And he is a very happy corgi for sure.

We are glad to share Jeter's story with you.
We hope to tell you many more happy stories and adventures of our little captain.
Thanks for reading this long post and have a good night.
