The Adventures of Felix and Jack - Introducing a new corgi to our home!

Hello Corgi land!  My name is Shelly Duell and I am a corgi parent.  My husband Trevor and I recently decided to add a second corgi to our pack.  Through this process, I have read hundreds of articles and tried my best to do the right things in bringing in a new member of the family.  There are so many differing opinions out there, that we have had to adjust to what we feel is best and learn through trial and error.  I have decided to start a blog about our journey so that others can give…

My corgi keeps licking his paw!

For the last 2 days my male corgi won't stop licking his front left paw and now it's so irritated and raw. I have hydrocortizone spray (the kind for pets) and a flexible bandage on it now. I know it's hurting because he limps. Does anyone know what can help get this cleared up?…

How to train to not bark?

So I know Corgis are known to bark alot, but has anyone tried training your Corgis not to? Cadi is now 15 weeks old and hasn't barked that much, except when I'm not paying attention to her and when she's playing in the backyard.

I had a friend come over with her dog today to play with Cadi and she started barking like crazy. After 5 minutes of barking, my neighbor yelled shut up (through his window....even though it's 2pm!). So I would like to teach Cadi to lower her voice or…

OCD Corgi?

Since Baron is my first Corgi I don't know if this is normal or if he picked it up from "Mom".  Baron is extremely OCD,  we moved the furniture around and he stood and barked until it was put back where it "belonged" .  He also "patrols" the yard looking for stray items to bark at...watering cans, firewood logs on boulder wall, etc.

Request from the Queen

For those who may not have heard it, at last night's Diamond Jubilee Concert Paul  MacCartney made a request from the Queen for the people to leave in an orderly fashion after the concert, otherwise she would have to release the Corgis!  You can see right after 12.35 on this video

Frustrated leash walking

Juno's 13.5wks. I've been trying to take him on walks...he did horribly on a leash/collar. He'll keep his head on the ground at all times and eats random crap as he's sniffing. In this process, there's no way that i've found to stop him. I've tried leave it w/ treats and pulling on collar but that's not good for him. Soo i switched to gentle leader...he def. did better on his walks but then he starts to bark/growl anytime he sees his red gentle leader even if it means a walk. Once it's on,…

Exiting news this weekend! We're adding another corg-a-porg into our family!! We're not sure what to call her yet, but she's a little pemmie, red & white.

We all met her this weekend and get to take her home next. Trill was so overwhelmed by all of the puppies and dogs that she wasn't sure about it. We'll see how next week goes!!…

A Morning at the Farm

Today we had a corgi meetup at a local organic farm.

We had a great time, and for the first time, I let Sidney roam off-leash! I was so scared, but I figured I'd never know how he'd do if I didn't try.…

Watson's Moved!

I've not had much to say about anything in a long time.

Watson’s now 8 months, still has a submissive and excited peeing problem, and is living with just me. Not to bore you with the details, but Joe and myself had to split up and because I’m now living with my parents again with a backyard, I took Watson.

Watson getting ready for the 3 1/2 hour trip with Zoe! We moved to Abilene, moving practically everything in two days. Watson did well in the car, unlike…

Bittersweet <3

The eighth is really bittersweet for me now.

On one hand, I lost my bestest bud in the world a month ago today. On another, I have the most amazing short little four legged dog who I believe stepped into my life at just this time four months ago today to make sure that I still stuck around and saw reason for living, when I may have not thought so otherwise. I know I wouldn't have.…

Stray attack = suddenly aggressive corgi

5/22/12 A couple of weeks ago (right after we got Dante), Pippa and Dante got attacked by a stray dog on one of our walks. Dante was so scared that he couldn't move, and even peed himself. Pippa seemed to think she was protecting both me and Dante. Ever since then, Pippa has been very confrontational with other dogs. Even when trying to play, she is overly rough and bites/growls more than she used to. During our last walk before bedtime last night, another dog came running straight for us,…

Moving update

Since it has been a while since I have been on the site I thought I should update everyone on our move.

Our move from PA to FL was very unsuccessful. :( While going through VA our car broke down at 2 AM on the side of the interstate. We were stuck on the side of the road for 3 hours with two Yorkies, a Corgi, two cats, a fish and five people (including my 7 year old sister) until a cop and a tow truck came to our rescue. We made…

Corgi Countdown: T-Minus 5 Days

I finally received pictures from the breeder of the puppies! I have had my email up constantly on my computers for the past week waiting for this. I was surprised that all the puppies appear to be black-headed tris. There are two in particular that caught my interest and they are both males! I'm just waiting for Joe to get home from work to get his opinion :) Obviously the final decision won't be made until I meet the little buggers in person and get a feel for their personality. Five…

Corgis Tearing-Up the House: An Answer from a Dog Trainer

"'Help! My dog is tearing-up my house and I'm ready to kill her!'

This is one of the most common complaints driving people to call a dog trainer. And the cause is almost always the same simple thing: people give their puppies and young dogs too much freedom much too soon.

There's no one best way to train the average dog (contrary to what many author-trainers may tell you in their books). But almost all trainers agree on this: puppies should not have free run of your…

Stem cell therapy for hip dysplasia.

Maya (my beautiful pembroke) came home from daycare with a limp on Monday. The limp proceeded to get worse throughout the night. Poor Maya could only take a few steps before she had to sit down.

On Tuesday the vet decided it would be a good idea to take xrays. There was no disputing the facts revealed by the xrays. My cute six-year-old Corgi has hip dysplasia.

The hip dysplasia is still minor but will continue to haunt my active girl. The recommended treatment? Glycosamine… Continue

When to neuter?

I've always had female dogs, so i'm not really sure when is a good age to neuter. Charlie is 5 months old now and is potty trained with a few accidents now and then. But in the last week he has gone pee in the house 5 times. And then tonight, he was outside for a few hours(I left the door open) and when I brought him in, he peed on the wood floor right in front of me. He was looking right at me when he did it too. Does this mean he needs to be fixed? I don't think it's a bladder infection. He's… Continue
