Best driving harness

Has anyone out there had experience with a Canine Seat Belt system. I bought the Champion one from K9 outfitters in size medium based on chest measurements and my Corgi pulls his front leg out of it. I have it tightened up as small as it would go but then it does not "move" like it is supposed to for comfort during the drive. Is there one out there you like more? Or do I just have the wrong size..

Oh, the grumbling.....!

So our girl Luna is a big talker.  We know that, we've seen it since she was a pup.  She has the full range of corgi talk (wookie talk, grumbling, growling, yipping, etc.).  This is usually for a purpose (like, "let me out to potty"), or in response to petting (almost like a purr?)...she has a specific "butt-rubbing grumble" but right now she's showing off a new one:

I'm in a recliner. Her sister is sitting with me. She's in her crate (with not a soul within 20 feet of her). She's…

End of day 1

So this is what I have learned today:

  1. Corgis have tons of energy, I put her in her crate for bed at 9PM. She would whine, let out a huff, and constantly turn and look at me while I watched TV. I just put her back to bed at 1130PM after playing tug of war, heel nip chases, beaver toy on her back wrestling, and attempting clicker training. Now she is quietly lying down in her crate (pics below).
  2. Don't expect your corgi to be potty trained on the first day. I got her to…

Foster mama!

Holy cow!  I am gonna be a corgi foster mom!  Little did I know that my first foster was gonna be a mama and her 5 puppies!!!!  I'm pretty excited!  They arrive on Saturday and I am hoping the meeting between them and the permanent house mates goes well!  Middle Tennessee Corgi Rescue are doing the adoptions so if anyone is looking...get a hold of them!  I am pretty sure these babies are gonna be adopted pretty quickly.  With my daughters help I should be able to post photos.

Dixie's home

I brought Dixie home today.

She is amazingly quiet for a puppy. However, when you get her excited with play it takes her a bit of time to calm down.

Right now she is sleeping, since I had to crate her with her Kong monkey and a bully stick so I could go to a meeting.

When I got back home she was snoozing away in her crate.

Hopefully she will still sleep soundly throughout tonight since she has been sawing wood for the past two…

Woes of Bento

Bento is 13 weeks old now, and his personality is definitely popping up.

He gets frustrated easily. I once saw him chase his water bottle around inside his play pen. Unfortunately for Bento, the bottle bounced off the floor and managed to escape through the bars and landed outside his play pen. Of course, Bento got to the edge and tried to retrieve the bottle with his stubby paws. He touched it and bat at it, but he couldn't bring it back into his pen. He kept at it for a while and… Continue

WANTED: Wyndtree Corgis from Swisher, Iowa

I am looking for Wyndtree Corgis born in Swisher, Iowa. I have 2 Pems from the Wyndtree Farm and would just like to contact others and trade stories and pictures of our dogs on MyCorgi. One of my Corgis was born 10-26-07 and the other was born 4-7-09. I stumbled on a litter mate on this site last week. That makes me want to find more.

Please respond with a comment only if you have a Wyndtree Corgi. Thanks.…

Happy Birthday, Yuki!

Yesterday was Yuki's 3rd birthday.  We didn't do much that was special (mostly because I was too busy with family responsibilities), but I did prepare a special birthday meal.  The meal changes from year to year.  The first year he had boiled hamburger and rice and he loved it.  Last year he had apple slices and cottage cheese and he gobbled it up like it was ambrosia.  This year, I decided that he deserved some red meat.  So I cooked up a beef roast (plain, so as not to…

Mt. Maude, our masterpiece.

If you click on these photos, you'll get a clearer, higher-resolution view.

Seven-Fingered-Jack (9077') and four-fingered Al.  Our objective, Mt. Maude, is just to the right, and 5' higher.

The phenomenon of grieving dogs

Do not read this article if you want to keep your eyes dry.

I truly believe there is no greater love shown to men by any other creatures.

Say a prayer for the horses

This has nothing to do with Corgis, but I know we have some horse lovers here.

While I was on vacation last week, I got some horrible news in the form of an e-mail from a friend.

On Sunday July 24th, the stable where I used to ride as a teenager (two decades gone by now) caught fire and burned to the ground.

There were 29 horses in the barn when it caught fire (being a Sunday, there was no one there riding and being a hot summer day, the horses…

Having a nervous breakdown: surgery tomorrow

I posted a few weeks ago about how I was told Dakota needed surgery on a torn CCL... well the time has come.

We met with the surgeon last Wednesday.  I really liked him and he seems very confident about the procedure and how she will do.  We are doing a traditional repair on it.  The only thing that made me nervous is that I am not getting much of a physical therapy regimen from him.  In fact, the only thing he said was to keep her on leash outside at all times until…

Al passed his PP.T.!

Al doesn't even have his C.D. or C.G.C., but he did me proud Saturday and passed his PP.T.!

I'd been waiting, worrying, and preparing for the Porcupine Test for years.  By passing it, he saved our most notable exploit to date (more on that elsewhere).  I'm told porcupine quills are air-filled, so if you cut them, they become easier to extract.

The…

Lulu is home!

I must say Lulu is one of the most wonderful dogs that I have ever seen. We picked her up this afternoon at 1:00pm, and our breeder already vaccinated and dewormed her and get all the papers ready for us.

Regarding our ride home, Lulu quickly became sick after 30 mins so we stopped for a break. Then she seemed to do better for the rest of the trip. In the evening, we fed her but she ate very little and later even vomited (I was feeling so bad). Poor girl she must have been…

when do they stop growing??

Pudge is 4.75 months old... and today we weighed him in at 23.5 pounds. :O He's HUGE. Our breeder said he will be a huge corgi full grown, estimating 30-35 pounds. He's really fit under the floof, not chubby at all. He's HUUUUUUUUUGE.

When do corgis stop growing??

Pudge is astonished at his hugeness as…
