Husband's Blog Entry

As I mentioned earlier, Pixel goes paddling with my husband and they both enjoy themselves immensely. Here is a posting that my husband did on his canoe and kayaking blog about their experience on the river: http://photokayaker.fit2paddle.com/paddling-with-pixel-the-water-corgi/ I don't know how to make this link clickable, but you can cut and paste it into your web browser and see them both together - my boys on the river getting "man time" in.

Pixel the Water Corgi

Our corgi, Pixel, has been raised by our older (and extremely tolerant) newfoundland girl, Dax. Dax was a saint while raising Pixel and never once reprimanded him, no matter what he did or how much he tortured her. For a while, she was covered with tiny scabs - the result of Pixel's lack of control with his razor-sharp puppy teeth. One of the things that resulted from being raised by a newf is that Pixel thinks he is a water dog. He will happily run through any puddle, swim in the lakes we… Continue

Starting Puppy Kindergarten---FINALLY! What should I expect?

Stella starts puppy kindergarten this Tuesday! I've never taken a puppy to kindergarten classes before, so this will be a first for both of us. Even before I got Stella I was planning to take my Corgi to classes because of their bold reputation--which Stella is definitely living up to! She's living up to the high intelligence reputation, too, so that helps. Anyway, if you happen to read this post and want to comment about your pup before and after… Continue

Looking for a corgi rescue in my area

We're thinking about getting another Corgi. We live by Wichita, KS. We would like to rescue a corgi not buy from a breeder. We are looking for a female. Sgt. Scooter Pants is a male and we're thinking a female might be better. We would be willing to travel some distance.

He's Healthy!

We took Kenji to his first physical exam and gave him a set of vaccination shots.
He was a trooper all around.
Stool sample was good. He didn't whine when he got probed.
He didn't even bark when they gave him his shots!
He checked out physically, 2 balls were there, lol.
He was a hit at the Vet Clinic. Even the employee wanted a picture of him!
The Doctor was telling us that we got us a good deal on this puppy.
She couldn't believe how much we had paid for him.

Bear's home!!!

I can't tell you how relieved to report Bear is home and in great condition. She had to have a round of Dialysis at USF to remove the poison. If anything like this should happen to your babies( hopefully not) please take them to USF if you live in Florida and to anyone else who can do Dialysis. It's the difference between life and death. We have an acre of totally fenced in yard and they are never out unless I am with them and this has happened twice now. Unbelievable!!! Our house has been for… Continue

Vacationing corgis are apparently irresistible!

We took Doris Daylily with us to Helen, Georgia for our very short vacation earlier this week, and I learned a lot about traveling with a dog.

1. People love dogs. I had no idea! I don't go around chasing other people on the street or in the park when they're walking their dogs, trying to pet their dogs. But when you're in a tourist town with a lot of other tourists, and you have your corgi with you, you get stopped A LOT. Everyone wants to pet the dog. Everyone wants to know what it… Continue

Puppy of a Broken Home

My boyfriend and I started dating over a year ago, and when I caught him cheating last week, I kicked him out. I bought Bear while we were together. I'm doing okay, but Bear keeps looking all over for him. Everytime we go outside, he checks the parking area for his truck, when I go upstairs and call for him to follow me, he sits at the door, looks at the door, looks at me.

When my boyfriend stopped by the other day to get some more of his stuff, Bear of course was ALL over him and… Continue

6 month old corgi puppy at Peoria Illinois Shelter

Someone left a six month old male tri-color corgi at the shelter's front gate. He has been there since August 22, 2009, so his time is limited. He really needs a home ASAP!

D-Con Mice/Rat Poison Pellets -- Do You Know What to Do?

My loveable Topaz loves to chase rabbits, squirrels, cats, lizards, frogs, virtually anything that moves fast on the ground.

Friday morning when she caught a mouse on first snap I was so proud of her! -- Until I realized she wasn't going to present me with her "gift." Instead she was savoring it for herself, taking it out to the backyard to finish off.

Then it hit me -- I've got mice/rat pellet poison down in the house and this mouse could have ingested… Continue

A Charlie update.

So figured it was time to give an update on Charlie-boy. It was a little bit ago that we adopted him and was deciding on keeping him or not.

Well needless to say he is one of the family now. Napping happily to my right.

His feralness is almost completely gone. The wild whites of his eyes are gone and he's finally showing his corgi side and a personality that was hiding under that wild OMGWHATSGOINGON form. He's so sweet and surprised me when one of our neighbors kids just… Continue

David Blouin says there are Three distinct relationships that people have with dogs!

And I say that he is oversimplifying;

Football fan

I can't help giggling to myself as I watch my husband and our little Puck lounging together on the recliner. They are both engrossed in the current football game. Puck looks so observant! His head moves as the players move and he really seems to be watching the game. I wonder which team he is rooting for? My husband would say he's rooting for the Vikings. :)

Hardy is back from the hospital...hooray!

At 4pm I was able to go pick up the little guy. It's been determined that he has colitis, and after 7 hours on the IV he looks so much better. (He has some very nasty gas right now, though so it's very hard to give him lots of lovins!)

We still don't know what triggered the colitis. I am wondering if it may have had to do with a dog food switch, since he eats Taste of The Wild Buffalo formula and we mixed in some of the Salmon formula (a sample from the pet store) for a couple of… Continue

Mae meeting a cat?

Mae has not been much around cats, but when she is around my sisters she goes after it. I do not know if it is play but she does not vocalize or growl its more of an attentive look. My fiance wants a cat and loves mae but we are worried about her not getting along. His mother who is a dog groomer said the best way is to throw them together and one of them would become the leader so to say.

can anyone give me ideas? She has never bit the cat nor growled but in a way tried to play and… Continue

Hardy is in the Doggie Hospital! Oh no!

I'd like to be witty and funny, but I don't have a funny way to convery my worry or saddness. I figure the best way to work through an emotion is to write, so blog I shall!

Yesterday was the first day back to work for teachers in our school district. I left the house at 7am, gave Hardy a pat on the behind and a kiss on the nose. He smiled his corgi smile and I know he was waiting for the invite to come with me since we were inseperable all summer.

Due to a variety of… Continue

Getting fixed today

Shiro is at the vet's right now, getting the operation done. It will be more complicated (and expensive) than a regular neuter because he's criptorchid, but we're prepared and just hoping for the best. He will be out today by 6pm and if everything goes well should be fully recovered in a week. It will be hard to keep him from playing and frapping but hopefully I can compensate with lots of home training.

The technitian also noticed that he had some staph infection on his belly and that… Continue

Bear Poisoned again!

Many of you may remember my dog Bear was poisoned with antifreeze in Feb. After two months on Dialysis at the University of Florida and $23,000.000 later she pulled thru. Tonight I let her out and she came in 5 minutes later with blue on her feet. I thought I was just being paranoid but I took her to the emergency vet which confirmed she has again been poisoned with antifreeze. They are starting the antidote now and tomorrow at 7am I will be headed back to USF and hopefully Dr. Bandt can save… Continue

The good times keep coming!

Well the past few weeks have had a fare share of ups and downs. We have placed Penny on a new, better quality food, and it has helped with her potty problems that we have been combating during the late night and early morning hours. Week two of classes has begun and she has already learned to sit with little effort. She has made plenty of new boyfriends of various breeds and seems to be an overall winner with our friends dogs.

Her behavior is both rather cute and peculiar. She loves… Continue
