Puppy Mill Rescue

I am proud to share again more well deserved honors going to my dear friend Theresa Strader and her all volunteer organization.  Never missed a beat, still going on rescue missions in various States, while  rebuilding the pieces of her personal life after the total loss of their home in the Black Forest fires last June and doing work as a nurse as well.... .  Thankfully they don't get many Corgis, but she's had the occasional one.  Looking forward to lunch with her soon.…

Normal puppy behavior or not? HELP!

So it is the one week marker of my getting my Dilly Dog and I am getting a little nervous about how nasty she can be sometimes.I understand it's still new for her and she is adjusting and such, and I originally thought it was just with food that she got a little aggressive. But it's becoming a little more often now. When I pick her up she snarls and nips at me. She plays REALLY rough for a 9 week old puppy. And when she met my neighbors 7 week old puppy, she was really nasty there too. I…

Puppy Food Research

We all care what we feed our pups and we want to make sure we feed them the best food possible. Well, I went on a search to research and decode which brands are the best. I've compiled the top 29 Dry Puppy Foods offered by Petco. Based on the ingredients alone I rated each brand. You may disagree slightly, but I hope you use this information to compare the brand you use now to others or maybe decide to chose another brand. There is also the information of price, Protein content, and bag…

pup questions..

I have so many questions, like is my dog the only dog who likes to poop on rocks only? Is he the only one who whimpers and whines while chewing on a squeeky toy? Can my dog be allergic to raw hamburger? Is my pup underweight at 6 months weighing only 18 lbs? Is it bad if he does not shed as much as other corgis? Am i doing something wrong with potty training that he wont tell me when he has to go out? He goes when hes outside but wont tell me when he needs to go out.. Am I the dominant one or… Continue

End of day 1

So this is what I have learned today:

  1. Corgis have tons of energy, I put her in her crate for bed at 9PM. She would whine, let out a huff, and constantly turn and look at me while I watched TV. I just put her back to bed at 1130PM after playing tug of war, heel nip chases, beaver toy on her back wrestling, and attempting clicker training. Now she is quietly lying down in her crate (pics below).
  2. Don't expect your corgi to be potty trained on the first day. I got her to…

Pine Cone Bandit

Newest discovery today... pine cones.

Every time I've taken Finnley out today he casually walks out, does his business, then casually explores, then out of no where I see him take off. I knew exactly what he had grabbed. Now he was making a run…

And then there were 2

Hi,

Sorry been gone a good while, been busy with a 10 week old fur ball. It's not a corgi so don't know whom will reply if any however the good news.

Jazmin and Tala ( The new puppy) get along beautifully, actually better then I'd ever dreamed of. I think Jazmin has taken on the puppy as her own. They spend endless hours chewing on each other and of course is the transitive learning as well . Jazmin loves the interaction and the play only as a dog can provide, finally I've a…

Bringing puppy home.

As we were newlyweds in our first home… we had quite a lot on our plate. We both really wanted a dog… we knew we needed more time. Of course life is what happens while you are making plans.

We both agreed that we would like…

Crazy times ahead....

Well, I figure I'll get it out now...

Life...an ever moving, ever changing motion some would say.

I'm currently working on rehoming my one dog...thankfully I've found a rescue organization that is no kill and will take her.

She is a good dog and really the only issue I do have with her is she is highly food agressive and attention agressive. Jazmin won't eat now unless one of the family is downstairs because of this, and its sad because even in their crates seporated all…

Starting Puppy Kindergarten---FINALLY! What should I expect?

Stella starts puppy kindergarten this Tuesday! I've never taken a puppy to kindergarten classes before, so this will be a first for both of us. Even before I got Stella I was planning to take my Corgi to classes because of their bold reputation--which Stella is definitely living up to! She's living up to the high intelligence reputation, too, so that helps. Anyway, if you happen to read this post and want to comment about your pup before and after… Continue

Puppy Kindergarten Disaster

So tonight was Lyla's first Puppy class. I debated for a while about whether or not to even sign her up for one, since I can teach all the commands at home for free, but eventually decided on it because Lyla is a little timid and could benefit from the socialization.

First night of class, we walk in, and Lyla's instructor reminds me of an older version of the dog trainer off of Marley and Me. Yikes! Sure enough, the first class was spent practicing alpha rollovers with the dogs. I… Continue

Biting Jess ALOT

Ok so Milo has been steadily improving, and we're now past the halfway mark to six months!

However, we're having a pretty serious and escalating problem. He has been very aggressive with Jess lately. It's strange to me, since she cares for him more than anyone else. She takes him for more walks, plays with him more, trains him more, feeds him more... you get the idea. But in the last week or so, his behavior towards her is almost constantly aggressive. Hackles up, biting hard enough… Continue

No-Chew Sprays

Are there any chewing repellant sprays that actually work? I have a border collie who loves the taste of bitter apple, and our new corgi milo seems to not be put off at all by the taste of Nature's Miracle Best Behavior chew repellant.

Anyone know of any that work? Or any home-made concoctions? He's found a wooden post in our apartment that he really loves to chew on, and if he damages it, there goes our pet deposit! It's literally the only thing in our entire apartment he could… Continue

A Request of Wisdom from the Masses

A few more puppy questions, regarding Milo, our 9-week old Pembroke.

Things have been going remarkably well lately, as he is starting to lighten up on the biting and paper training is moving along faster than I ever would have imagined. But here's my first question: what's up with his breath? He's partially on Nature's Recipe Puppy and partially on his original dog food, which was called Black Gold. I never heard of it, so we're trying to wean him off it slowly. I know dogs typically… Continue

Leaving Him Home Alone

Although no one likes to do it, I think it's a reality to admit that from time to time we all have to leave our puppies home alone. Whether it's work or school (or both, for us!), life calls us out of the house to places we can't being the dog. So herein lies my frustration. Milo is still very young, only 9 weeks as of posting, so I don't trust him to have run of my apartment just yet. I don't think it's safe for him or my property. I have been trying to corral him in my kitchen, the safest… Continue

Only a few days left!!!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to thank everyone for the great wonderful response we have received from joining the website. We are both very excited to get our first corgi puppy together. Also both of us have been reading up on corgis and we still feel under prepared. I think it is the overwhelming feelings of how do we want to go about training and loving our dog. I know all the training books in the world would never be able to fully prepare us for what we are going to go through in… Continue
