Ruby the Corgi did not seem especially perturbed after the disappearance of Cassie the Queen of the Universe, who went to meet her maker on the 15th. Admittedly, I did not sit on the floor and weep for half an hour, the way I did when we had to dispatch Walt the Greyhound -- but that was quite a shock, since Walt did not appear to be sick despite being filled…

Have you ever had a problem with a neighbor’s cats? How was it resolved? Or was it?
For a book on cats, a friend and I are looking for reports about issues related to cats allowed to run free. Please tell us your story. What was the problem? Did any property damage occur (to your yard, your home, your car, or whatnot)? Did any…

I am currently looking for a younger Pembroke rescue dog in the New England area, I have contacted Mayflower, Ohio Valley, Petfinder, (daily)utilizing their search alert, and numerous shelters and rescues. I recently lost my beloved 9yo male pembroke to cancer.
Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated. I would buy a puppy if I could afford one but my dogs medical bills ran into the thousands, so purchasing from a breeder would be difficult. The breeders contacted in…

One can only hope! As I mentioned the other day, after my honored neighbor (winsomely known as Other Daughter) found a dead Maine Coon Cat behind our houses and concluded one of the coyotes had done it in, she was found trailing her cat up and down the alley.
This morning a new handyman came by to give me some estimates for several small jobs that need to be done. One of the things I hoped he might do is…

I have friends with dogs that have arthritis, dysplasia or cancer and in one case the friend is unemployed and can't afford conventional treatment. While searching the net, I found a site:
www.earthclinic.com that provides a forum for discussing alternative therapies. I thought I might share what I found in case anyone is interested. Several of the suggestions for arthritis and dysplasia
are similar so I will just include them…

Bandit is mainly with my girls, he is so funny how he plays with them.
My youngest says he "pecks" her! I've seen him do it too. He jumps at her and jabs his nose at her! She gets this when they first come in and sit down. They run up and down the street together so they are wired but ready to sit and rest. He does it to my older daughter too and she complains that pecks her little sister more! He's so funny...
The other day I put my little bunny out to play in her playpen and there…

Today is his 3rd day with us. Little corgi still unnamed. The girls were outside and wrote with chalk "My dog is the most awesome!" on my patio. Later I found a few kids out back jumping and playing. Then they were in the front, corgi and all...he just stood by my youngest, where she went he went! I saw her looking into his dog crate and he was beside her peeping in too. I thought they had a cat in there but it was just Josh, the smallest kid in the neighborhood. Our corgi just… Continue

It seemed it would never happen, but spring is finally coming in all its muddy glory. The daffodils are coming up, the cardinals are singing their breeding territory songs, I saw a robin, and the park is packed with people and dogs.
I love the warm weather and all the activity, though I must admit I also love the quiet of the park in winter, when there is just a hard-core group of joggers and dog walkers. But from now til school starts back, on every decent day we will share it with…

This story begins with the fact that I am a recent college grad with the same job I had as a student-- babysitter. I've worked for one family for a year and a half and love them to pieces. There are two little girls and I alternate with both. Starbuck's daddy and I have been able to make it so someone is home every 4 hours to let her potty and play with her... until this week. He's out of town for a week and a half. What's a mommy of a puppy to do? Take her puppy to work! (this is where…

I've been shopping at this site for years and I think its so great I wanted to share with all of you. Its the Greater Good Network of stores and I mostly shop at the Animal Rescue store. They have lots of things for you and your pet and with every purchase they donate money to feed, spay and neuter and vaccinate homeless animals. They have nice quality items too and good prices. Here is the address. Hope you love it as much as I…

Hey guys, just got an ad in the mail, There is a "portable pet house" for $19.99 at
Bed Bath & Beyond, you can easily take $5-10 Off with a coupon, looks like a pretty good deal for a temporary crate. (Yes, I'm a guy and I shop)
