Crate size

I know this seems like a trivial post, but I want to purchase a second crate for Tilly, 27 lbs, that I can take to our cottage this summer. I will be using the one we have as well, but using the second one for inside of our tent.  At the moment I have a large metal one with a slide out bottom.  She really doesn't need this much space but she can do anything in it, lots of room.  I saw a crate today, and hemmed and hawed as to whether she would fit in there or not.  I decided not.  I'd like…

Transition from Crate to House

Hi All!

I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on transitioning my corgi from staying in her crate (until I get home at lunch-then back in until dinner) to hanging out in one room (gated off from other rooms) to allowing her to hang out in the entire house while my hubby and I are away at work.  Any advice would help!

Thanks,

Megan

Finally getting Tilly this weekend!!

So it's been a little while since Ive been online. I've been so busy this week moving all my stuff from Statesboro back up to Atlanta! But recent news on this soon to be Corgi owner is last weekend I got to visit my little Tilly girl and she was as sweet as can be! She had just woken up so she was just kinda lounging in my arms but it was so sweet! She was about 5 1/2 weeks at that time and was so little! It looks like she is going to be a red-headed tri too which is very exciting.

Zorro, the Traveling Corgi!

Zorro and I have been so busy lately! I'm housesitting from this past Sunday until Thursday. The woman I'm housesitting for has two Golden Retrievers. So far nobody has been hurt, but one of the Goldens is about a year old and so rambunctious and just wont leave Zorro alone! It scares me he will hurt him on accident so I'm constantly on guard. Today we woke up, did the feedings, drove 30 minutes to get home, had lunch. After lunch Joe and I decided to bring Zorro to a local ice cream…

Zorro has Arrived!

Yesterday Joe, my parents, and I drove a little over three and a half hours to pick up Zorro (and as my parents like to say their first grandson from me). When we got there we were immediately greeted by two sweet corgis. It turns out the adult in the picture I posted with the puppies a few days ago is actually his brother. He is such a nice dog! When I was trying to look at the puppies he kept trying to get under my arms so I could pet him. The father his a nice little RHT and the mother…

Another day with Ravioli--some questions!

First off, I want to thank everyone for their support and advice, it really helped to know that everyone went through the same thing. this is another long one but i hope you read it because i could still use some support! Ravioli did better yesterday after my first post and he seems like he's opening up to us a little bit. he seems to be eating normally now whenever i give him food and isn't as mopey--he seems to explore more when we're just sitting on the couch instead of laying around like…

Ravioli is finally home, but I have some concerns

let me first preface this by saying that this post will be long, but i ask that you please read because i really need some support from the community. please!!!

Ravioli came home saturday evening, and he seemed pretty ok with us (my boyfriend and i). we brought him back to the apartment and he explored a lot. the breeder said he hadn't used the bathroom all day (which was from before 9am to 630pm when we got him). we took him out a couple times that night and he still never went to…

Luna EXPLODED!

So our girl Luna went out potties last night, didn't act sick or sickly, no problems, and settled down for the night.

The girls still sleep in their crates because they're still little and not terribly reliable on the chewing issue.

Well, my husband and I must have slept like ROCKS last night, because when my husband got up at 5am, he started wailing, Oh LUNAAAAAA!

She had exploded from _both ends_ all over her crate! vomit and diarrhea! Poor…

Crate training

Short post/update

Just wanted to let everyone know, We started crate training our 8 week old Oona the night we got her (Saturday 1-15-11), and tonight is the second night in a row she has "gone to bed" with zero crying/whining!

I don't think 4-5 nights is bad at all! I am proud of my little girl, proud of Nate and Myself for being strong in the face of puppy tears (the most heartwrenching sound I have ever had to endure), and proud of Roslyn for being such a…

The perfect crate and food for a corgi.

I am getting my first corgi on the 31st and I am still getting things ready for him. The hardest thing I am having to make is what size crate and what type of food.

Since we are in economic times I am hoping to buy one crate and use spacers till he grows. But what size and dimesions (specifics if possible) of crate (Airport/Plastic type) do you have for your corgi as an adult?

Also, the nearest stores I have to me is Wal-mart and Petsmart. Which dry food (brand) should I… Continue

Crate or Not

I wanted to get some opinions on the best option for leaving an 8 month old home for an extended period of time. Finn is crate trained and he sleeps in his crate and also goes in his crate when we are leaving the house. Up until now, when we were at work he would go in the crate but I would come home on my break to take him out to go potty and stretch his legs since I'm at work for 8 1/2 hours every day. My schedule is changing and Jason found a job (yay) so he won't be home with Finn all day… Continue

Too Perfect Crate Training

~_~

I accidently left Didi in the crate for 10 hours yesterday.

When she is in the crate she never makes a sound because it never gets her anywhere. I had to go pick up my parents from the cruise terminal early in the morning so we went out, had breakfast, went out again and she went right into the crate. Ran to the cruise terminal, picked up the family, came home, unloaded luggage, fed ourselves, more family came over, stories and tasting things and gift giving. We left at 7am.… Continue

Ugh!

So I thought Gibson was an allstar at crate training..but yesterday I started smelling pee when I was sitting on the floor next to his crate, and today it was really bad and he stunk of pee! So I decide to investigate his crate and there it is under his bedding, a nice wet spot...and after pulling out his bedding I notice a huge stain on the bottom of it! Ugh! He does not cry or whine at all when he's in there. It's a very small crate too, I even thought be too small. Why does he think it's ok… Continue

The Crate Escape

I live alone, so you can probably understand why the shower curtain jumping at me would be a bit un-settling! I placed young Cheez-McQueen in his newly divider-free kennel earlier in the evening. Little did I know that the side-door to it was a bit unsecure. The shower curtain jumped at me, and I was soon met by a dog frantically yelping when it occured to him that showers are full of water. He jumped in through the curtain, got his feet wet a… Continue

Settling in

Lucy is doing great! She's adjusting well to her new life with an active "on the go" family. She plays well with our two sons, but tends to get too excited and forgets she isn't supposed to nibble on younger son's ears. That is getting better. We are learning how to read her too and that when she's getting tired, it is easy to overexcite her. She likes clicker training and we use her breakfast for rewards. She has sit, down, touch, and horsey (a rearing up pose we caught by happy accident… Continue

The Puppy Palace

Yesterday was a busy day getting things ready for our puppy. Still 1-2 weeks to go, but we are thinking ahead. I cleaned out garage this past weekend and hubby brought home the ex pen. I picked up two crates from a friend – THANK HEAVENS for good friends!

One crate is a super nice 36 inch black wire crate that has a divider panel and two doors that will go in the garage Puppy Palace. The door will be fastened open so it won't scare her or trap her. I got hubby involved in figuring… Continue
