In which Ruby becomes a dog...

Ruby the Corgi did not seem especially perturbed after the disappearance of Cassie the Queen of the Universe, who went to meet her maker on the 15th. Admittedly, I did not sit on the floor and weep for half an hour, the way I did when we had to dispatch Walt the Greyhound -- but that was quite a shock, since Walt did not appear to be sick despite being filled…

Sunday in the Park

I can't stand it. Google hates this, but I wish so intensely to bite the neighbors that I'm reproducing a post that just went live at my regular blog, Funny about Money. Et allez-vous faire fou*re, Google!

***

Ruby and Cassie are up and ready to go by 6 a.m. Normally, we would avoid the park on Sunday morning, because gaggles of…

Ruby Learns to Use the Doggy Door!

So tonight, it being 10 p.m. and after the mosquitoes' bed-time, we were a-hunting the little bugs on their favorite nest, the ceiling. We'd patrolled most of the rooms, Cassie barking every time the Human cocked the fly-swatter, so as to warn her little winged friends so they could escape. As an afterthought, we dodged into the former TV room, now rarely used since I replaced the television with Netflix.

This is the room where I used to hang out almost every evening, and…

Confused....

I hoope I don't bother anyone for making a new thread but I am a bit at loss, and needs you guys advice on this... I was scared to tell about this but I am sure you guys won't judge. When I told my Therapist about getting a PWC, she actually told me that they can be really good PSD for my PTSD, Social Anxiety, Angoraphobia, and my night terrors.

All excited I called my breeder about it, and said that PWC are really not good for that kind of work without letting me explain what I… Continue

Kerfuffle in the park today

So sadly we had a mishap in our usual dog park today. We were at the MSPCAs dog park this afternoon and the only other dog there was an Aussie cattle dog. She and the owner seemed nice and another dog joined us as well. The dogs were playing with some balls that are often lying around the park. Everything was great for a while when out of nowhere the cattle dog started attacking poor Penny. She ended up with a cut on her eyelid and some hefty emergency vet bills that the other owner offered to… Continue

Why is it so hard to be on the same page? <Rant>

So I went away for about a week and a half to help my dad move down to North Carolina, from Upstate NY. It was a grueling 14hr drive one way.

I left the dog home because (a)my Aunt doesn't really like dogs, and (b) her fiance is severely allergic to animals. Like we went to a Zoo and he broke out and had an attack just from being at the Zoo, and this guy loves animals to death, I really feel bad for him.

So I left my dog at home, with my fiance. We had a training plan in order,…

Corgi Events, World Cup, and Dog Scouts! Oh my!

So Ruby and I attended the Midwest Corgi Picnic. It was fantastic! We had a great time. Ruby competed in the fun match and I was so proud of her. She had some issues with the table but other than that she was great!  I think we may do some more fun matches in the future.

We also went to Pet Pride with a good friend and we had a great time. Ruby even go a spray on tattoo of an anchor. Petsmart was doing them and it was free so why not! We got a ton of free stuff and I bought Ruby a…

How Do You Train Your Dog to Get Out in a Fire?

So I'm sitting outside on the back porch working on some stuff for one of the graphic designers, a little project that goes on and on and on and.... The house's doors are closed, because it's warm and the AC is on. I hear a beeping noise. An insistent beeping noise.

The neighbor has a truck that beeps like that. Beep beep beep freaking BEEP. It takes awhile before I realize whatever the racket is, it's not the dude's accursed truck. So I get up to investigate and lo! The house…

Recognizing Aggression In Other Dogs

Far far too often you hear about cases on the news about dog attacks or hearing stories from people you know. I can honestly say that I'm proud that I grew up around aggressive dogs and I had volunteered two years of helping aggressive dogs heal. The events that took place on Sunday made me very thankful for my experience in this field.

Sunday night a bunch of friends and family friends of my husband were having a bonfire. They also have two dogs, a German Shepard and a…

Registering a Pet-Quality Pup with the AKC: WHY????

Sooo... the American Kennel Club has been importuning me to purchase any number of services and products for  Ruby-Doo the Corgi Pup, even though sometime in the next five or six months she will be spayed, and even though the rankest amateur can see at a glance that she is not, repeat NOT, a show-quality corgi. And that is even though pup's registration papers distinctly state "OFFSPRING OF THIS DOG NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REGISTRATION."

In addition to …

Certifect..Has Anyone Heard Of This?

It's some kind of flea and tick stuff.  I just heard from a good friend that she used it on her dockie and the pup is now in the hospital.  It's a full grown dog, right dosage was used.  Dog started staggering, ice cold, low respiration...not good at all.  I researched it because I have never heard of it and the many many of the reviews were bad.  A number of dogs have died from it.  One review I read was from a vet.

Anyone have any experience with it?

New Activity Sponsored By AKC

This is something new...an event called Barn Hunt and it's sponsored by the AKC and open to all breeds and mixed breeds...it even earns a title.  With corgis and their constant looking for something to get into/find this might be fun for anyone looking for something new and fun to do with your buddy.

Aggressive Dog Scare

We finally got Sterling his off-leash park permit. Things have been going great and his recall is getting better all the time! He even comes to me when I call him during mid-play now. I just love it.

On Saturday, however, we decided to go to a different park where there are lots of trails in the woods. It's NOT an off-leash area, although I am the only person I have ever seen using a leash. A woman even asked me if my dog was dangerous because he was still on a leash... There are signs… Continue

Today we met one of Regi's litter-mates while at the dog park!

(Jagger, left. Regi, right)

We were chasing after Regi at the dog park where he found another corgi puppy! His mom, Melissa, and I got to chatting and we realized they had the same birthday and are actually from the same parents/litter (Blue and Cash, born August 16th, 2012.) What a small world that we found Regi's…

Welcome home, Lola!

I must say, I thought I would have made this sooner, but new dogs really do make you wonder "where did all my time go?"

Brian and I brought Lola (formerly known as Sweet Pea to the lovely ladies at the Blue Moon Sanctuary in Camdenton, MO) home from her foster family on Friday last week. It was wonderful to get to spend the weekend with her and get to know her.…
