Ravioli is finally home, but I have some concerns

let me first preface this by saying that this post will be long, but i ask that you please read because i really need some support from the community. please!!!

Ravioli came home saturday evening, and he seemed pretty ok with us (my boyfriend and i). we brought him back to the apartment and he explored a lot. the breeder said he hadn't used the bathroom all day (which was from before 9am to 630pm when we got him). we took him out a couple times that night and he still never went to…

Questions for my new little boy, Roscoe!

My boyfriend Derek and I have had our little Roscoe for almost two weeks. He just had his 2 month birthday (woot) and is too cute for words. We do have some questions though, we both know that it is never too early to train so we really want to get a head start!! So, here are the questions that we have encountered so far:

-- Leash training..?! We have tried many different techniques, but nothing seems to work! As soon as that leash snaps on, Roscoe isn't moving! He walks with us just…

Pupsters Camping Trip

So I decided to take my Pupsters for their first camping trip. Little did I know how much fun it would be. A girl I work with asked if I wanted to accompany her and her family for an outting in Sequoia National Park. Now how could I resist such a temptation. . .lol

The first night was marvelous, aside from the Bear that came into the campground. My friend and her family brought a couple of tents. . .well I decided I would rather sleep in my SUV since the back folds down…

HELP-Orange, Inground dog post??

Im looking for an inground dog post so my corgi can chill onthe yard and i wont worry about him leaving the lawn, we have no fence. I saw a product on tv once but i didnt write the name of it down, i assumed i would see the commercial agian! But havent. What I remember about the product. Its BRIGHT ORANGE, screws into the ground. Goes below the grass level so you can trip over it, and you can mow the lawn right over it. It has a retractable leash that comes out that you clip to your dogs… Continue

One week.

One week in, and already things have changed so much with my freckle-tummied little stub wagger. She is almost sleeping though the night. Last night, we went to bed around midnight, and she didn't wake me up until seven-thirty in the morning! Which surprised me, since I didn't think she was capable of holding it that long at the age of ten weeks. In any case, it was a nice break from the ~4:30 wakeup call I had been getting in between sleeping for the past six days. Although anticipated, it… Continue

Leash Training and Excessive Barking

I have only had Wrig about a month and in that time, he has been almost perfect. I love him to death, but he is proving to be very stubborn when it comes to training. He was housetrained the second day we had him and has no food aggression or any other serious problems. The shelter said he is about a year old and he is nutered.

The major dilema is excessive barking. During the day, when he is with me alone, he sleeps, follows me around and sometimes chases the cat. We go for a long… Continue

Everything's a Game

My Cardi pup Finnigan is now 13 weeks old and we still cannot get him to walk on a leash. He will walk for a minute or two without any problems but once he realizes the leash is on him, he just wants to play with it. He will bite onto the leash and not let go and he sill usually start tugging on it like it's a game. Once I manage to get it away from him he will just do it again and it seems like the more frustrated I get, the more riled up he gets. He will start making these whining/growling… Continue

Alligator on a string! Help with Loose Leash Walking?

My puppy Lucy totally forgets all commands when we are on a walk. She doesn't seem to be getting the loose leash walking idea when I turn into a tree...she just zips around at the end of the leash in a circle still holding it taut. There aren't any animal distractions just normal exciting outdoor stuff. All I want right now is a non-pulling dog. She can wander in front, back or to the side. I just want zero tension on the lead.

Sometimes she does look at me and it loosens up a bit… Continue

Pet Peeve!

I go through a lot of trouble to have a good puppy. I got her at a time when I knew I'd have several weeks free to be with her and train her, I am very diligent about being consistent and about her leash training. I want, and have, a good dog, through work.

I get REALLY annoyed when I am walking my puppy down the sidewalk (her on my right, walking just beside me) and someone with a dog (usually several) on a stretchy leash is coming on. They pull all their dogs to the side, pull them up,… Continue

Oh dog park finally!

Finally finished with his shots I took Cheez-it to the dogpark. It's huge and I think he had a blast. Here is an example of it's hugeness.

I was suprised at his amazing off-leash abilities. He stayed near me almost the entire time, when the girls working at the desk held him while I took the pamphlets/wallet ect. out to the car he was very good until I came back when he started flapping his stubby arms in my direction and gladly jumped from… Continue

Help with rude owners?

What do you do about dogs off leash at public parks? I take Lucy to our son's baseball games and many others bring their pets too - on leash. One family always lets their big dog off to run loose, hits it when it misbehaves, etc. This dog is scary to Lucy, won't leave her alone, and I would like to relax a bit and watch my son play in peace.

I also was at another park last week and there was a big dog loose without any owners in sight. I picked Lucy up because it was turning ugly,… Continue

Hot new dog trend?

Oh retractable lead, you were supposed to be so amazing. I had dreams of regulating dog-to-master distance ratios on the fly in real time. You were supposed to be multi-purpose, allowing my pup the freedom of movement and the restriction of a short-lead in one sleek glossy package. You cost upwards of 50 dollars, but I thought you were worth it. I was never told that your cord is extremely tactile/textured, and that it sticks to the things your dog encircles. Your fanciful package never listed… Continue
