Floor in Puppy Playpen

I am getting myself ready before I get a puppy, I'm on a list for a breeder. I have slowly gathered everything I think I'll need, minus food, collar, leash (I want to wait to make sure I get something that fits).

I have seen a lot of people use xpens/playpens for pups when they are younger, for when they can't watch them or if they have to get up and do something, etc. I got a 30" high one to use at home, but my house is pretty much completely carpet! Not good for puppy…

An eventful weekend for Bogart (all good)

Bogart had a great weekend (yes, he told me so himself).  Friday afternoon we played with other dogs at the dog park, Saturday morning we went for a run. In the afternoon Bogart had a play date in the back yard with Newton the Otter Hound and Oppenheimer the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (PBGV) - see below:

Today, Sunday, Bogart helped me put out 15…

A Boy and a Toy

Okay, I know this isn't exactly an astonishing event but I thought I would make a blog post about it anyway.

I HAVE SUCCEEDED IN MAKING ACE INTERESTED ENOUGH IN A TOY TO PLAY WITH IT ON HIS OWN!

This is really groundbreaking for me, and especially for Ace. Ever since he entered my life, he has NOT played with toys. Sure, he would tug…

Ahhh, the first snowfall of....er.... OCTOBER?????

I love a holiday storm.  Nothing like seeing a nice fluffy blanket of white to really show off people's Christmas... um, Halloween decorations.  'Tis the season, when everyone loves snow to put them in the mood for caroling...I mean, Trick or Treating.  The clean white ground really shows off the green and red wreaths on the door.  Make…

Thrown Away Like a Piece of Trash

So, I was sitting on my favorite chair in my patio, enjoying the early morning with my Pupsters when I see an old truck drive really close to my fence (my house is a corner lot and I have an alley way next to one side of my house).  I thought this "man" was going to try to get figs out of my tree that hangs over my fence.  Little did I know that he was about to throw something out of the back of his truck hard against my…

Emmy's Weekend!

Emmy had a fantastic weekend. On Thursday we went to the dog park to play with friends. Emmy didn't care too much for the small dog area, so we went to play with the big dogs and Emmy fit right in. She is very polite and submissive while also being playful so it worked out. Toward the end of our time there she kept laying down and her mom was scared she would get stepped on so we went back to the little dog area where she played with a Chihuahua and a Pug until it was time to go home. That…

Andy's New Forever Home

For those of you who have lost a cherised pet know the anguish, hurt and empty feeling that's left behind. I lost my Daisy on 8-13th of this year and I still cry for her. I only had her for 6 months but it seemed like forever.

On 10-30, my brother, George, received a call from his niece, Robin, up in Santa Barbara; about 2 1/2 hours North of us. She walks her dog on a path near the Marina and has made wonderful pet friends…

The Heat Factor

I know some people on here are having the same issue... they share their pups with significant others and somehow end up doing most of the work despite discussions... explanations... serious sit downs.. and going on strike.

I'm in the same boat mostly. He tries to keep up to date on everything... put his input in.. but doesn't research everything before he tries it... and the frustration is mostly he needs to spend time with them. He gets upset when they listen to me more then him… Continue

Mud Babies by Goldy

Today mom let us go play in the mud, since it was bath day anyway...we had soooo much fun. Today was our favorite kind of weather, cloudy, cool and wet. We don't care for playing in the summer, we get hot and hide under any nearby tree/chair/shadow.

We especially liked chasing each other. Bear is…

It's a blizzard out there!!!!!

I live in northeastern Ohio and I'm sure everyone knows this as the snow belt. Well, I got news! I'm moving! lol I don't know where to yet but I'm sick of this. It is literally a blizzard outside right now and Copper thinks it is the most opportune time to go out and bite, eat and play with the snow. I tried to explain that he is not a baby polar bear, I am not a mama polar bear or an eskimo!

I also wanted to share this funny story to see if anyone else has corgi play like…

Dog Yoga

It is hard to say "no" to a dog who wants to play, but when I really don't want to be disturbed, I put the proffered ball on the piano. Al gets the message. Eventually.

Stella's Favorite Game-Herding Tennis Balls! (A good way to tire out your Corgi puppy)

So I thought I would post about Stella's new favorite game because it has not only been good for her, but also for me since it tires her out quickly! I used to play fetch with various toys and a tennis ball, and then one day I threw all of the tennis balls from the can for her to chase. She's hilarious because she goes crazy trying to herd them--she's like a little goalie! I play this with her on the deck since I only have a small yard that is not fenced in. I walk her a lot in the neighborhood… Continue

Beating the City Heat

I think Faye is settling in just fine. She's picking up on potty training and she is so well behaved with strangers. She has a tenancy to bark when excited or to squeal like a raptor when she is less than happy but hopefully it's just puppy behavior that she will grow out of. We ignore her when shes being too vocal and she calms down pretty quickly.

The only thing is that I think she is hot and it's just going to get hotter going into August. She sleeps belly-up in front of a fan… Continue

Labrador play date

We were hanging out in the fenced dog area in my neighborhood when I saw two labradors runnig towards us and 3 kids and 2 adults trying to catch them. They stopped next to the fence to say hello to Shiro and he was super excited. LAter on the owners let their dogs in the park. At first I was a little nervous because of how big they are, but then I saw how careful and gentle they were with Shiro and I let him off the leash. He had a blast! It was really funny to see him trying to catch up with… Continue

60 Hours to Go . . . Oh, the Agony of Waiting for Miss Daisy

Dear Reader

Oh, man (or should I say 'dog'?), it's hard to wait for Miss Daisy to get here. Momma is scrabbling around the house and garage trying to find all the necessities of new-dog-life. Currently she is missing the little post thingies and a larger thingie that all hold her dog play pen together. Since I am neither a scent nor a sight hound, I can offer her no assistance.

The kibbles, however, are another issue all together. Speaking of kibbles, do you s'pose Momma… Continue

Sidney, star of the stage

My daughter got permission to include Sidney in the spring play at her high school! It is called "He Who Gets Slapped" and it takes place at a circus. Sidney and his friend Pepper were circus dogs! They had a busy tech week, worked really hard and did great up on stage. They playgoers just loved seeing Pepper and Sidney, and I have to say Sidney looked so handsome and at ease up there, looking out and the audience and smiling.

Here he is in his costume:…

The BEST Toy for Corgis!!!!

I read about this ball that was recommended for herding breeds. It made sounds when bouncing or rolling causing the herding instinct to kick in and have them chase it and corner it. Me being the curious mommy I am decided to take a look at it for Caesar. Since he needed to go to the vet for booster shots I went to talk to a salesperson about it. He did not hear about the ball being great for herding dogs but I decided to give it a try. No, the ball is not good... it's pretty freaking… Continue
