Good Thoughts For Katie

Please keep good thoughts for Katie tomorrow.  She has a growth on her right front leg and it's being removed.  It doesn't feel like a fatty cyst but it's not attached to the bone so that is good.  The vet wasn't sure so he wants to remove it and then send it to pathology.

Katie will be 11 next month, she is such a sweet girl...loving and a total velcro dog.  Your good thoughts will be much appreciated.

Max Is Having Surgery Tomorrow

He has a subcutaneous lipoma low on his side.  For those who don't know what they are, they are a fatty growth that is common to older dogs.  These are not cancer.  Normally they stay small and don't need to be removed...I think just about all my older dogs have had them.  The one Max has is low on his side and it grew quickly and large, about the size of a softball. The vet said she can close her fingers almost completely on the inside of the growth which means it's not attached to…

Post op

The surgeon called and informed me that Ein has come out of surgery and did well. The mass was not an abscess and she did not think it was a polyp due to the broad base it had. But she is confident that she removed quite a bit of it.

She is uncertain if it is a benign or malignant mass though, but it is being sent in for a biopsy. That will be either Friday or Monday before we get the results.

She will be calling us once he is fully awake so we can go see him. Unfortunately, he…

Scheduled Bladder Stone Surgery

Well, we did it. We scheduled the surgery for this upcoming Friday. Last night Bella seemed fine, played a bit and ran around with the neighbor's dog, ate all her dinner, and slept on the couch like her normal self. She is completely in good heath other than her current problems and being a tad overweight, but hey, her pudge is what makes her squeezable! Anyways, hopefully the removal will be successful and she won't have problems urinating anymore. She is on a strong antibiotic for…

Fixing Cryptorchid 9 month Corgi

Hi everyone!

I just set up my 9-10 month corgi up for a special surgery cause he has crytorchidism to get fixed on Monday, April 25th.

I'm extremely nervous, since I was told it was more of an exploratory surgery to find his one testicle. Since they don't exactly know which area of his body it'll be in.

Can anyone help ease my anxiety? Is it a safe surgery? Do you know if my corgi will feel okay after the surgery? Is there any advise I should…

Introducing...Scarves for Sidney

Hi Corgi friends,

As many of you know, last August Sidney was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, and he underwent FHO surgery in order to give him mobility and alleviate some of the pain. If you've been reading my blog posts, you've seen how he did in his recovery and how he's moving really well now and walks without a limp. It was the right choice to get him the surgery.

Sidney's FHO Journey - the pen is down!

It's now been 6 weeks since Sidney had FHO surgery for his hip dysplasia. I was feeling very worried and depressed a couple weeks ago, because Sid seemed to be sad and he just didn't seem to be moving well. Then last weekend, it was like he turned a corner and started bearing weight on the leg and taking some "normal" steps. Over the past week he's been moving easier and just seems, well, happier. He's got that glint in his eye again. We have three more weeks of swim therapy.

When we… Continue

Sidney's FHO Journey - one month after surgery

Today Sidney went back to the Surgical Specialty hospital for his one month checkup. Despite his having a rough day last Thursday, he was in good spirits and moving pretty well today. I had been getting discouraged because he was just not wanting to use the leg, but in the last couple days it's like he turned a corner. He's started standing on all fours and taking a few "normal" steps as he moves around.

Today, Sidney actually let the vet manipulate his leg! Doc said he could…

Pathology results!!!

So the vet called me yesterday and gave me and Callie some wonderful news. Callie had leiomyoma which is a benign tumor that was located in her intestines. And since they took out all of it there is no additional follow-up is necessary. So she is cancer free and can live a normal life after this whole ordeal! (Which is great because we all believed it to be cancer and that we'd have to keep an eye on her to make sure it didn't come back.)

Other updates are that she is finally on… Continue

Recovery

I am updating from my phone so this will be shorter. I got to see Callie again today and was thrilled to see the improvement. She walked out to see me and was so excited she tried to jump up on me. They told me it was time for her walk and I could take her as long as she came back within a few minutes. We strolled around the building and she just kept giving me the 'i love you so much' look.

You wouldn't have been able to tell she just had a major surgery. The vet said she ate some and… Continue

Exploritory surgery part 2 **UPDATED**

Today is the day! In fact as I am writing this as the are getting her ready to go into surgery.

I've had a long weekend with little sleep because she had to go out about every hour to go potty. But this morning I woke up to her being as playful as ever. I think that the antibiotics are starting to work. It just made me so happy seeing her run around like crazy and constantly squeaking her toy like she used to. (And she can squeak toys for hours)

The vet called me and they are… Continue

Healing after ACL Surgery

Hi All,

My boy Gunny had ACl surgery 8 weeks ago. The repaired leg is obviously weaker and looks skinnier than the other due to muscle atrophy. I might be jumping the gun here, but I am concerned that I should be doing more to make him use the repaired leg more. We are still helping him up stairs but he goes down once in a while on his own. We are only doing very short walks and trying to keep him from his usual running around. Is there something I should be doing to force him to put…

Jasper's last night with the jewels...

Well tomorrow's the big day-Jasper's getting his neuter surgery. I feel bad...he's so unsuspecting. They're keeping him overnight since his surgery is a little more complicated than usual. I'm so worried about him although I'm sure everything will go fine. Any tips or advice for once we get him home on Wednesday?

My sweet little 2 year old.

Callie is officially 2 years old! We gave her some doggy birthday cake which she LOVED! We didn't do much for celebrating because I had sinus surgery yesterday. She was very careful and gentle with me once she noticed something was wrong. Luckily my mom is here to take Callie out and play with her since I don't feel much like playing.

Even though I just had surgery yesterday I am already feeling better and the swelling has gone down. Now I just can't wait to get the packing out of my… Continue

Fern will be having surgery

Our little rescue Fern made a two day visit to the vet for some testing. Fern is our little Pem rescue. She is three years old and was in Foster care for more than six months. She has an incontinence problem. Nobody wanted a leaky Corgi I guess. We fell in love with her regardless. We welcomed her to her forever home in August. We have tried a variety of teatment therapies, PPA, DES--a combination of both as well as changing her to a grain free diet and supplementing her with corn silk. These… Continue

Female Corgi UTI Issues

Sandy is a 6 year old female and has experienced a barrage of medical problems in the last two years. She herniated two disks in her back and had back surgery a little over 1 year ago. Luckily she recovered and is doing well although she has lingering nerve damage in one rear leg. Since her surgery, she has 5 urinary track infections. Her most recent diagnosis was this past Friday. It seems that she cannot go 3-4 months without experiencing a UTI. In two weeks (after the antibiotic course) we… Continue

Emergency Surgery

Leon had to go in for surgery early this morning. I'm at my wits end with everything that has been happening around me, but that's a completely different story. He somehow got ahold of and swallowed a sewing needle, with some thread attached. Another strike against carpet. When I get a house, it's damn well going to have wood or tile flooring. As soon as the x-ray was shown to me, before he even said a word, I knew exactly what it was and started bawling. That was one of my worst nightmares,… Continue

Corger Follow Up

Well, Agro is recovering just nicely. He's in full play mode today. The swelling has completely disappeared and his sutures are healing and fading. The vet used internal sutures so theres virtually no signs of a scar or anything. I also wanted to thank all those who left encouraging messages and advice on my previous posts. I'm sure Agro appreciates them as well.
