A Boy and a Toy

Okay, I know this isn't exactly an astonishing event but I thought I would make a blog post about it anyway.

I HAVE SUCCEEDED IN MAKING ACE INTERESTED ENOUGH IN A TOY TO PLAY WITH IT ON HIS OWN!

This is really groundbreaking for me, and especially for Ace. Ever since he entered my life, he has NOT played with toys. Sure, he would tug…

Chew Toys

I asked John to get Kahlan a couple of pig ears and she loves them but I read (on these forums I think I can't recall off hand though) that they can make dogs sick and vomit. Also someone mentioned deer antlers as chews. I looked around and read up a lil on them. If what I read is true about lasting around 6 months and not splintering like bones and being low fat then it is worth the higher initial cost and having to buy them online.

What have you all heard about antler chews…

Preparing the Apartment

Well, we've made arrangements with Barb of Evanwhit, and two Fridays from now, Ani will be coming home with us. (We're going to call her ~Anathema Device after the character from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's book Good Omens, but Ani will be her short name.)

Naturally we've been reading up on all the things we're supposed to do and get, like puppy proofing the house, how to house break a puppy, the vaccinations, the license, the food, the kennel, the shampoos, the leads…

Frappin' Around the Christmas Tree...

It's been hard to be in the Christmas spirit this year. I've been nearly bedridden with two herniated discs in my lower back for the last two months. But it is Søren's first Christmas and I've been looking forward to that since the day I got him! He's getting a Hide-A-Squirrel and the IQube Holiday Puzzle Toy.…

Thanks GoDog!!

I bought Orion and Laika a GoDog baby dragon a couple weeks ago. It has "chew guard" technology that is supposed to hold up against the roughest of dogs. So far there have been absolutely no holes in the outside (the fabric is very tough and seems extremely durable) but the squeaker broke. The little cylinder thing separated from the balloon part. Since Orion and Laika loved it so much and I think it was a manufacturing error from the way it broke I contacted GoDog via their online support form… Continue

Chew proof toys?

New record for Baron the destroyer. He destroyed 2 toys in less than 8 hours. A chew proof Kong toss and tug toy was chewed to bits, and all that is left of his Kong ball is bits and pieces of lime green "snow" all over the living room floor. We need Baron proof toys.

Treats!

Sherlock got more treats today, after christmas sales! Some included little gingerbread men, canycandes and some plush toys like santas and snowmen. He didn't get all of them at once, but he got enough! He loves them. We are also getting a new blanket for him because his other ones are really gross or all chewed up. Any suggesetions?

60 Hours to Go . . . Oh, the Agony of Waiting for Miss Daisy

Dear Reader

Oh, man (or should I say 'dog'?), it's hard to wait for Miss Daisy to get here. Momma is scrabbling around the house and garage trying to find all the necessities of new-dog-life. Currently she is missing the little post thingies and a larger thingie that all hold her dog play pen together. Since I am neither a scent nor a sight hound, I can offer her no assistance.

The kibbles, however, are another issue all together. Speaking of kibbles, do you s'pose Momma… Continue

Izzie Eats Everything!

So now we can add to the list 1) Japanese Beatles 2) Drywall of things Izzie will eat! Ugh. She spent an entire evening last week throwing up bugs she ate during the day while outside. Sooooooo gross. Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister left Izzie alone for 5 minutes and she chewed a huge hole through the corner of the wall in the hall way... >_< My mum and I are trying to patch the hole in the coming days. Luckily the wall was just painted so it won't be too hard to match the… Continue

Is there such a thing as too much cuddling?

Kara is such a lover. She really isn't overly fond of her toys, and she has quite the variety. I am wondering if this will change as she gets older or if some dogs are just not interested in toys much. I really want to teach her to play fetch, it's something my kids would play with her quite often. My original breeders dogs would play fetch with the kiddos all day if they could and they all had so much fun. It tired out both the dogs and the kids! LOL. I wish there was something I could do to… Continue
