New Corgi Owner - Need some advice please!!!

We brought our pembroke home 10 days ago.  He's 12 weeks old. I actually was hoping to get some insight from you all on our new pup.  We have spoken to our breeder about this but I wanted to get your well informed take as well.  His temperament test showed he was laid back, friendly, confident, very affectionate, and somewhat lazy.  In the week we've had him, he's proving to be the almost the complete opposite of what the temperament test said he was (besides the lazy part, he is pretty lazy…

How time flies...

It's been almost 4 weeks since Bento came into our lives.  He is really the bestest puppy ever!  We've been training him every day, and so far, he knows sit, bento, and down.  He's starting to learn stand, fetch, and come/recall.

He definitely got a personality.  There's a stubborn streak in him.  When he's training with my husband, and my husband is a harsh grader, Bento would let out a bark of frustration when he didn't get a command correctly and therefore no treat. He…

Bento's blog of knowledge

It's been two weeks since Bento joined our home, and Bento has learned many things.

  1. He will pee/poop on the puppy pads; as long as the puppy pads are near him when he has to go.
  2. He has learned that close is close enough, and it's good enough for him.  See above.
  3. He chews on the puppy pads to get mommy's attention.  (Mommy is working on not paying attention to him when he chews on pad and to bitter apple the pads like crazy.)
  4. He loves peanut…

Crate training

Short post/update

Just wanted to let everyone know, We started crate training our 8 week old Oona the night we got her (Saturday 1-15-11), and tonight is the second night in a row she has "gone to bed" with zero crying/whining!

I don't think 4-5 nights is bad at all! I am proud of my little girl, proud of Nate and Myself for being strong in the face of puppy tears (the most heartwrenching sound I have ever had to endure), and proud of Roslyn for being such a…

One week.

One week in, and already things have changed so much with my freckle-tummied little stub wagger. She is almost sleeping though the night. Last night, we went to bed around midnight, and she didn't wake me up until seven-thirty in the morning! Which surprised me, since I didn't think she was capable of holding it that long at the age of ten weeks. In any case, it was a nice break from the ~4:30 wakeup call I had been getting in between sleeping for the past six days. Although anticipated, it… Continue

Six Week Visit!

My boyfriend and I met our puppy Starbuck today. She's about 6 and a half weeks, and we bring her home in less than two weeks! She's awesome. At first I was nervous because she was the only puppy not jumping around and stuff. She just laid quietly in my arms. My only thought was, "Please don't let her always be the puppy alone in the corner!" meaning please let her not be antisocial and scared of everything. After just a few minutes, she livened up and gave lots of kissies-- my favorite scent… Continue

"Best week ever" and Corgi's

I know, 2 posts in one week! Unlike me, let alone on the same day. But I just read this awesome article from the "Best week Ever" show's website. It has Corgi's in it, as well as some other mutts!

Hot new dog trend?

Oh retractable lead, you were supposed to be so amazing. I had dreams of regulating dog-to-master distance ratios on the fly in real time. You were supposed to be multi-purpose, allowing my pup the freedom of movement and the restriction of a short-lead in one sleek glossy package. You cost upwards of 50 dollars, but I thought you were worth it. I was never told that your cord is extremely tactile/textured, and that it sticks to the things your dog encircles. Your fanciful package never listed… Continue
