Curious case of the pukes

So Callie goes through phases where she will be perfectly fine, then she will throw up, then be fine again. How it usually goes is we get up, she runs around and begs for food, but doesn't eat the food just yet. Then she will play some more, pukes (twice), then goes off to eat her food. Then she carries through the day with no problems, only to repeat the thing the very next day. This will go on for a few days and then she will be fine for a week or so until it starts up again.

One month after surgery

So it's a little over a month after Callie had a softball sized benign tumor removed from her intestine and she has made a wonderful recovery. She's back to her old self again... well besides one thing. She begs for food now. Before the surgery she would rarely beg for food, in fact I'd usually have to remind her to eat. Now it will be an hour or so before I feed her and she looks up at where I keep her food and at her dish. And she does this all the time. It's not a bad thing, at least she… Continue

Pathology results!!!

So the vet called me yesterday and gave me and Callie some wonderful news. Callie had leiomyoma which is a benign tumor that was located in her intestines. And since they took out all of it there is no additional follow-up is necessary. So she is cancer free and can live a normal life after this whole ordeal! (Which is great because we all believed it to be cancer and that we'd have to keep an eye on her to make sure it didn't come back.)

Other updates are that she is finally on… Continue

Recovery- Day by day

Today is Callie's 5th day of recovery and also the day we can start switch her to more solid canned dog food. She has been eating mushed up watered down canned dog food since the surgery. She gets fed frequently to just make it so she doesn't eat a lot at once and cause pressure on her intestine. So far today I've been slowly increasing the size of the bites (they are small chunks now) and by mid next week we may even start mixing in Kibble.

Everyday Callie has just seemed to get better… Continue

Recovery- She is home!

I got to bring Callie home today, we still need prayers that things keep going good. She has been very happy and staying close to her mama. Its already been tough to keep hercalm. She is on a special diet for awhile, which she really likes the food so that is good. I am off to spend more time with her and I will keep everyone updated.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about check out my previous blogs.

Recovery

I am updating from my phone so this will be shorter. I got to see Callie again today and was thrilled to see the improvement. She walked out to see me and was so excited she tried to jump up on me. They told me it was time for her walk and I could take her as long as she came back within a few minutes. We strolled around the building and she just kept giving me the 'i love you so much' look.

You wouldn't have been able to tell she just had a major surgery. The vet said she ate some and… Continue

Exploritory surgery part 2 **UPDATED**

Today is the day! In fact as I am writing this as the are getting her ready to go into surgery.

I've had a long weekend with little sleep because she had to go out about every hour to go potty. But this morning I woke up to her being as playful as ever. I think that the antibiotics are starting to work. It just made me so happy seeing her run around like crazy and constantly squeaking her toy like she used to. (And she can squeak toys for hours)

The vet called me and they are… Continue

Exploritory surgery

Callie has been showing signs of a UTI for a couple of weeks and we took her in and she got antibiotics. Last night she had urine in her pee and she's still be unable to control her bladder. (She's hasn't been on antibiotics for very long) We took her in again this morning and they took some x-rays and they found a mass in her lower abdomen. Her blood work came back normal and all of her organs seem normal so the vet isn't quite sure what the mass it, but she doesn't think it is cancer. The… Continue

Day of little scares

Callie is not a scardy dog, but yesterday she had a few experiences that scared her. *I would like to point out now that she is fine, she just got scared at a few things. Nothing to worry about*

The first thing that terrified her was while at Petsmart I set her in the cart because she was being a pest and the cart was hard enough to push without having her tugging. She freaked out and I just had to balance pushing a cart with dog food and keeping Callie under control. Not an easy… Continue

Week after my surgery

So I had sinus surgery last Wednesday, which if you follow my blogs you'd already know that, and I have been so proud of the way Callie has behaved. My mom has been with me until Monday and she helped me a lot with taking care of both me and Callie. Also Callie really seems to understand the fact that I still don't feel the greatest, and now with my mom gone she doesn't have someone to play with her all the time. So far we have done good, it's been too hot for her to want to do too… Continue

My sweet little 2 year old.

Callie is officially 2 years old! We gave her some doggy birthday cake which she LOVED! We didn't do much for celebrating because I had sinus surgery yesterday. She was very careful and gentle with me once she noticed something was wrong. Luckily my mom is here to take Callie out and play with her since I don't feel much like playing.

Even though I just had surgery yesterday I am already feeling better and the swelling has gone down. Now I just can't wait to get the packing out of my… Continue

2 years go fast!

Callie's birthday is coming up on Wednesday (May 19th) and she is turning 2 years old. I can't imagine life without her with me now. She's such a great dog with a fun personality. Callie has already recieved 2 birthday cards in the mail from her vet and a boarding company she stayed with while I was on vacation. We are planning on making her a little dog safe cake, and my mom may take her to get a new special toy.

I am posting this a few days earlier because it just so happens that… Continue

Spring is coming!

First of all I'd like to share that Callie's back is fine and she's feeling better.

In other news I'm so excited that spring is coming and with that brings warmer weather. The only thing is the fact that Callie gets SO dirty when we go outside. My apartment place's grass is thin and mostly mud, they have been trying things to make it grow and last summer there was a difference, but still there is a lot of mud. Also in the parking lot all the gravel and water makes a big mess. So… Continue

Guess who hurt her back?

I am not sure how or when Callie hurt her back but I did notice today that she was acting less energetic than normal. I just thought she was tired, but after awhile she started shaking and became clingy. Then I knew something was up. She didn't want to walk anywhere and whined at me when I went to pick her up so I figured I'd have to go to the vet to make sure it wasn't anything worse. So after $108 she got to see the vet and he said it was her back. She has pain killers (which more $) and is… Continue

Update

I haven't updated recently so I thought I'd just give a quick update. We ended up not moving because I couldn't come up with the money to pay 2 months of double rent. So for now we are just going to stay where we are until June and then try and find a new place. (Speaking of which does anyone know of an apartment complex in the Twin Cities or suburbs that allow dogs and isn't insanely expensive?)

I recently graduated from college and am looking for work, which hasn't been going very… Continue

New Home for us?

My friend is living in a duplex and her roommate just moved out. I would save over $275 a month just by moving in with her. She does have 2 cats who have never lived with a dog before, but Callie loves cats. Her cats do have herpies... does anyone know if feline herpies can spread to dogs? I don't think they do...

Callie would have a little extra room to run around inside, and I'd be moving closer to a lake and a dog park. I guess my biggest concern is getting the cat's used to Callie. We… Continue

Sick again

Today after getting back from class (I was gone maybe 3 hours) I noticed Callie was acting strange, she was trembling. I thought maybe she had to go potty so I let her outside. She did her business like normal, but just kept trembling. She then didn't even want to walk back to the building. So I picked her up and started walking her across the parking lot back to the building and she throws up. After that she started to perk up some, but within the next 30 minutes was back to shaking. She laid… Continue

Vaccine time!

Yesterday I brought Callie to the vet to get her vaccines. I decided that we would walk there (it is only 5 blocks away). The walk went fine and Callie really enjoyed it. She wasn't a huge fan of having to sit in the small room and wait for the vet, but she was a brave little girl when she did get her shots. After we got home she rested and was happy to be home.

I had to leave for awhile because I was working, and when I got back Callie had made a mess in the bedroom. Runny poo all over… Continue

Escape Artist

So I took Callie outside to go potty because it stopped raining for awhile. She was taking her time on going potty. As I am walking her around the apartment BBQ area she gets out of her collar (an art she learned last week) and bolts around the parking lot area. This is the 5th time she has gotten out of her collar and I have even made it tighter to try and stop it from happening. The first 4 times she was playing with another dog and was easy to catch. This time she wouldn't even come near me.… Continue

In need of a sitter

I am planning on going to Las Vegas to visit my family for Thanksgiving. Sadly I can not bring Callie along because my sister's dog is not a fan of smaller dogs. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good (and not too pricey) places for my dog to stay in the Minneapolis area?

Or if anyone would be interested and willing to take care of my little girl while I am gone? I don't know too many people around this area, or at least not many who can take care of her. Message me or leave a comment… Continue
