Do you really need them?

I mean every dog needs obedience training, but do they need the school? I just feel like I'd be paying hundreds of dollars for them to teach my dog things I could teach them, and even teach some things wrong...

I know how to maintain pack leader/rank. I know all the basic commands they need to know, including when they can bark (want to train my corgi to be a watchdog) and when they can not. Even potty training they would take him outside and I want him going to the bathroom inside always, only using outside as an exercise platform.

I don't know because I've never had a dog (I'm new to 24/7care not to the breed. I am well informed on Pems.) But I have no clue what goes on in those obedience classes and if I need them. Or if they are just an option and you can teach your dog everything on your own.

No not everyone needs to go to classes. Although I always do with a new pup and sometimes as a refresher. The thing I like about a good positive training class is I get to work with my dog with other dogs and people around in a controlled environment. I always seem to learn something new too.

Private would help with socializing too? Like the groups? Or not enough dogs?

I didnt take Lilly to a school...I found a really good trainer here in town and got Lilly classes from her.  We did some private classes and we really learned alot.  It not only helped with her obedience...but it also did alot for us bonding.

I didn't think about walks, but I doubt if they have to go being outside will stop them. But that's what I'm saying. I know how to teach them to walk correctly, and manners and such. I've researched training and psychology more then anything with corgis, if anything I would think the most beneficial part would be being in a group. But paying so much just to be in a group... I don't know, I'm just being cheap but it feels like an owner cop out to me. I Can train them but I'll pay someone else to do it instead....

Honestly...yes, I have always learned more than I thought I would. Wynn never went to classes and is my "perfect" guy but they are well worth every penny! Even though I have to drive 1 hour each way:(  Check out if you have a local AKC Club as around here they are as cheap as any other classes and our trainers were great.

It's not about going potty (but your dog will have to learn to go outside if you're on walks....right?

Good manners, walking on leashes and how to get a good recall are much easier when you can practice as a group plus the interactions are important...I also learned that I was walking fast enough so sage would sometimes meander...haha!
