For the love of !!!!!!!! WORMS AGAIN!!!

Well it would seem the battle isn't over -_-
Found worms in Viva poop yesterday, and they're tapeworms. I know 100% they're tapeworms because I found segments in PILOTS poop too. I haven't seen anything in Lemmy's however I just assumed he has them and I went and spent a nice wad at the vet.
Luckily my daughter is away for a week, so either tomorrow or the day after I'm filling the spray bottle with water and bleach and I'm attacking everything.I dont care about discoloring things, my furniture is ugly anyways.
After the second dose of de-wormer, I'm then going to dig very deep into my pockets and get everyone treated for fleas. I haven't seen any, no one seems itchy but I'm nipping this b#$%@ in the a$$.
Of course, applications start rolling in for people wanting to adopt Viva and she's got  worms again.
This time however she is being treated, twice, with the good stuff. *Sigh* This is all very frustrating, and tape worms freak me the hell out; ever since I watch the House episode where they pull a huge tapeworm out of a girl *shudders*

Anyother suggestions to cleanse the house? I'm really not worried about how Rambo I need to get, I need this taken care once and for all; Especially when I have a large dog lined up once Viva is gone, and my daughter will be home in a week.

I have a hard time with looking information up on tapeworms because pictures of them make me squeamish and I have a terrible fear of them lol. But thank you! I will defiantly focus on dealing with fleas!

I just want to add, no need to get Drontal/Droncit if you were given Dolpac. It has the same active ingredient and then some.

If you want to look up the tapeworm lifecycle CDC generally has some great graphics. Tapeworm is transmitted either via eating a live flea or eating the worm encysted in muscle tissue, it can not be transmitted by eating feces or direct contact with the host so its overkill to bleach your entire house. I wouldn't cut corners here on flea prevention, it does no good to bathe your dog in peroxide because you still have fleas in the house. You need a flea treatment that will last for at least a month and kill all lifecycles. Get a good product like Frontline, Advantage, Comfortis/Trifexis, and make sure you give it for a few months to get rid of the problem. Comfortis/Trifexis is my favorite of those listed above because it will kill fleas within an hour and last for a month. Don't buy cheapo store brands because they can be toxic to dogs and cats. Good luck!

Before you spray everything with bleach, tapeworm isn't contagious by simple contact so you're safe! Also many times the dewormer for other types of worms don't cover tapes. Make sure everyone has good flea control as that is the most common way they get them! Good luck!

I will also look into that. Yes, I have full intention in keeping my dogs far away from where I will be spraying, and they will stay there until it's dried and I've vacuumed. Plus all my windows will be opened. No worries lol!
I'll look into the peroxide thing as well, I have never heard of it before. Thanks for the sugesstions!

I would suggest getting Iverguard MAX and use it for a couple months. It works...no one including any other animals of mine have ever picked up the tapeworms from each other unless they got into the rabbits too. PLEASE do not use bleach or at least put your dogs in a safe place away from it!. Wash and vacumn.

I would try bathing them with peroxide if you don't want to spend the $ on flea meds...only tried it once and it worked. I used full strength, let sit and then washed and rinsed. A bottle will cost you a buck and then you can save a bit.

I think Panacur is what she was given before, but I'm not completely certain, the name sounds familiar.
They were treated today with Dolpac, which is suppose to cover all worms.
As I said above, I haven't noticed fleas or the dogs itching, however, when you have animals..fleas just sort of become something you know is never 100% gone. So Im going to re treat all 3 for fleas again as well.... I will look into Drontal as well though!

I don't really think sanitizing the heck out of your house will do anything for tapeworm. Usually they are from eating a flea or a dead animal. Make sure your vet is giving you the right dewormer - we had a hard time getting rid of tape worms at one point, until I realized the vet gave us Panacur, which doesn't work for some strains. Drontal worked great for us.

They don't eat poop, or dead animals. The only water they consume is what is given to them at home, inside. I live in a city so no moose of wolves for miles haha. Viva came to me (unknowingly) with worms, 2 she was under dosed, then I pointed it out and she was given the proper dose and it seemed to work. I can understand how she may have "gotten" them again, but I'm worried about how Pilot got them.

The first thing to do is learn the life cycle of the tapeworm, and how a dog gets it in the first place.  Make sure you're treating the correct problem.  If they get it by eating poop or animals, cleaning up the house won't help much.  Do your homework.  Find out what to use, at what concentration.

Bleash kills everything -- but it won't kill mouse pinworm eggs.

The life cycles of parasites can be byzantine, including intermediate hosts.

I don't know about the worm involved here, but I believe the one you worry about on Isle Royale in Lake Superior -- it cycles between the wolves and the moose -- the moose (or you) get it by drinking disturbed water in ponds, and the wolves get it by eating the moose.
