I don't know what group to post this to so I'll just have to post a blog. A plain one until I can get pictures or video of this behavior.
Idgie likes playing with most bugs. When she does, she does the usual pounce.......barking and pawing at it till it's belly up, which I've seen dogs and cats do. The ones I've seen either proceed to eat the bug, or get bored with it since it's not moving and go on to other amusing endeavors.
Once the bug is near dead, Idgie will then (this is hard to describe, i'm finding now) starting with her head, rub herself on the bug or the general vicinity of the bug....and ends up lying on her side, pretty much with her head, ear, or neck right on top of the bug. She is very still and quiet for a moment as if she's listening to the bug. Most times she seems to make sure her ear very near the bug. She make some cute sounds sometimes too like she's talking back. Then she'll get up and paw at the bug some more, then go back down to listen. It's hilarious to watch. Hopefully I can get it on video soon.I'll probably have to just go out and get a bug o_O and I'm not too crazy about that LOL. I was wondering if anyone has seen their corgi do something like this.

They are trying to get the bug scent on themselves I had another dog that would do the same thing(not a corgi) He would come in the house with this horrible stench and of course I would immediately give him a bath. My Aunt is a farmer and she laughed at how her dog sniffed mine she said " It looks like a dog, it kinda acts like a dog but it sure doesn't smell like a dog." cause i always use my shampoo and conditioner on my dogs.

Waffle did this just last night with a click beetle that was on my bed. >< I thought he was going to eat it, but then she started rolling on it. Poor little bug.

I just wonder why? what are they thinking....what's the motivation behind it. Its so funny but curious :-)

I get the same thing from my boys. I never mentioned it cause I thought my dogs were maybe just alittle on the weirdo side. Must just be the playful side of the breed.

Sonny does the same thing! He proceeds to eat them, of course.

I've seen Rhys do something similiar to that. He will act like he's rolling in it when the bug is dead. He ate a beetle one time and spent the night vomiting. We try to make sure he doesn't eat them any more. The video would be hysterical.
