I've had several dog owners in recently with foot pad issues, specifically tearing away of the pad from the foot. Most I've run across have been dogs who were walked on hot pavement. Depending on how bad the split is, they may debride it and provide an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. Hugs to your sweet puppy!

Franklin lost all of his foot pads on one foot back in March because the vet applied a split too tight (he had a broken foot). It took quite a while for tough skin to grow back on his pads and he had to wear a protective boot for almost 2 months. I just bought a thick leather boot at petsmart and used that to protect his foot. The new vet also gave me some topical ointment that was both an anti-inflammatory/antibiotic. He was so tender he couldn't even put his foot down on grass or any uneven…

He was so tender he couldn't even put his foot down on grass or any uneven surface. It was very sad, but now he is running and playing like nothing ever happened!. He too is my little money pit. I can't even begin to tell you how much I've spent at the vet on him in his short 2 years!!
