Thank you all for the info. I am going to try half of the 75 mg Rimadyl a day and see if we still get the improvement.

Rimadyl can cause organ damage. That's another reason we opted for the surgery rather than just treat him with painkiller - that and his young age. They had us bring him in for a blood test after two weeks to see if it was affecting him. Luckily it wasn't. The effects seems to vary from dog to dog.

Hi Mike, i've had the experience of using Rimadyl on Wrangler for quite awhile now, actually a few years. He has the auto immune disease along with the hip problem. I have 2 vets, his regular and orthopedic. The dose for the size of a corgi is half of the 75mg a day. The pills are so you can break them in half, and that is what both recommended, 75mg is to much a day. That much will certaintly due damage to their organs. So i give half a pill a day. Wrangler has been on it for 4 yrs, and he is doing ok. After awhile i sometimes give every other day. Its so sad to have our beloved pets end up with these problems. If they could only talk and lets know how they are feeling. Best wishes to you and Dylan. I am not an expert but I believe Rimadyl is usually not recommended for long term use because it can cause kidney and liver damage.

Sidney was diagnosed with hip dysplasia a year ago. His case was extreme; his leg bone popped out of the hip joint and the vet said his socket was so bad, the leg wouldn't stay in the socket if they tried to pop it back in. They suggested FHO surgery, and Sidney was put on rimadyl for the few days while we waited for surgery, and then for a couple weeks after. His dose was 50mg/day.
Sidney had a great recovery from surgery, We did water therapy, and today he has no trace of a limp, he can run and jump and hike, although he will have lifelong arthritis (he's on Dasuquin chews for that) and tires more quickly than he did before his injury. But he's only 4 years old and has a lot of life ahead of him :)
