We use antlers. Our Petsmart had them on sale one day so I grabbed a few. They are becoming a favorite fast, so I'm starting to think I should stock up on a few more!

Someone told me they simmered their whole antlers in chicken broth and their pups immediately took an interest in them. Mine chew the whole bones but clearly prefer the ones with the marrow exposed. When I consider the cost of plastic type bones that a dog can chew on, or rawhide which a lot of people use successfully but I'm afraid to use, for me, it's a lot smarter to purchase deer and elk antlers. If you're currently purchasing boxed dog bones, chicken jerky, or any other kind of treats for your dog to chew, you could switch to carrots and frozen pumpkin cubes, and take the money you save and use it towards antlers. Dogs who grind their teeth on good sources like antlers, have naturally clean teeth, and the savings at the vet can be phenomenal.
Stumpy is 5 months old and is…tag:mycorgi.com,2013-01-12:1150197:Comment:16849322013-01-12T20:01:59.268ZKim & Stumpy Nhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/KimNStumpy

Stumpy is 5 months old and is teething a whole lot so she's been chewing on everything- our trainer recommended the elk antler split for puppies. It's really good because it cleans their teeth also, Stumpy loves it(especially chewing on the exposed marrow)! No rawhide though because if you have an aggressive chewer it can make their gums bleed :/

We have bought Napolean two. They last longer than other bones we have tried. He seems to like them well enough although it probably does not smell as good as the beef bones. I agree the more exposed the marrow the better and he knaws more. The one he has now is not as exposed as the last one and this one is lasting longer. But then it is bigger then the last one too :)

Oh, I saw the split ones when I bought one to try... guess I should have tried that because he sure doesn't care about the whole one. Might have to try splitting & smoothing it to see if he likes it that way...

Mine really like them but they have to be the ones that are cut in half to expose the marrow.
Like these: http://www.etsy.com/listing/61884070/medium-half-antler-dog-chew-sized-for

Bogart loves antlers, and there are others to get besides deer. They last "forever" and are not smelly.
