@Mai - I so get the pre-trained dog thing! When I was growing up, the neighbors up the road from me bragged when they bought a collie that was "already trained" and how easy it was going to be with her. Hah! They didn't bother to keep up her training at all and within a matter of weeks she was already not listening to them when they yelled at her to do (or not do) something. They didn't put in any work and wound up with a dog that learned it didn't have to listen to them! I…

They did keep her for her entire life.
That is for sure. I am in tr…tag:mycorgi.com,2014-02-28:1150197:Comment:18467362014-02-28T19:10:25.608ZMichelle Coxhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/MichelleCox

That is for sure. I am in training with Ringo right now. He will do everything just right in class but get him home and it is a different story. I work with him at least an hour or more a day broken up into 5 or 10 mins at a time. It takes a lot of time to train a dog. I have been told a few times by my trainer on how much she would love a corgi just not a corgi puppy.

Mai...you are so right! So many people thought that Eddie the JRT on Fraser was so cute and funny. They never bothered to find out just how nuts and stubborn JRTs can be. So many ended up in rescues because people found out the hard way that they weren't the well trained Eddie. They are not for everyone that's for sure. I have obedience trained all my dogs...they train you to train the dog. And yeah, people are harder to train then the dog.

Yeah....this is the reason why a lot of dogs end up at the pound.

People see you with your well-behaved dog and think that 'Wow! These dogs are so nice and well-behaved! I should get a dog of that breed' or whatever.

When in reality, they don't see how much time and effort it took to train your dog to what they see now, a well-behaved dog.

Then you get those people who don't want to BE the one doing the training. They want someone else to do the training and…

Then you get those people who don't want to BE the one doing the training. They want someone else to do the training and they just want the trainer to tell them the command words to use. I'm just like 'Gah! If your dog doesn't respect you and YOU don't spend time with your dog to learn how to train him/her, it doesn't matter how much you pay for someone to train your dog, he/she still won't listen to you!'

Someone was bold enough during a walk downtown with Wally, offering $600.00 for him. And I don't think he was kidding. Who does that? I didn't find it funny at all.

I get the same thing from my neighbors about stealing my corgi. I know how you feel about being worried. At first it was cute but now it is just annoying and I feel that I have to keep a real close eye on him. (not that I don't) I have even had cars drive by my house and stop till they see me then they take off.

I take it you tried explaining that they DON"T train the dog, they train YOU to train the dog. Oh well, good luck to them with that.
