Hey I was glad to read the posts about the coyotes luring the animals away! They are very good at that, mainly it was happening to my barn cats. I had one right at my front door and my Border Collie was inside and I turned her out and she was on the terror...chased the coyote at high speed to the middle of a large pasture. Once the coyote realized that Brandi was away from her "territory" he slowly slowed down and then turned on her! I was scared to death! I was screaming for Brandi and she ran…

Once the coyote realized that Brandi was away from her "territory" he slowly slowed down and then turned on her! I was scared to death! I was screaming for Brandi and she ran as fast as she could and flew in the door! :-) That coyote was on his own. He was going to take on my Border Collie. Just be careful with those Corgis..I would hate to see anything happen to them! Oh, I should also mention that is was a super tough winter on the coyotes, (I lived in western South Dakota) and they were getting really brave to find food. I had a friend lose an Austrialian Shepard to coyotes that winter. It kinda sounds like you have inconsiderate neighbors...that sucks! I hope that the neighbors know that one day the coyotes won't be scared of them either and will attack them. Coyotes are really thick around my area of the country and depending on what kind of winter we have depends how brave they become around humans. You can always turn them into the conservation department to were they get a nice long lecture about not feeding wild animals. Good luck!!

Harmons- i really like your idea... I might go get a paintball gun now...<br />
Everyone in my neighborhood has the same coyote problem. My next door neighbor leaves food out all the time. Another neighbor actually FEEDS them with any left over chicken bones from dinner. They leave them out in the yard. The coyotes have taken most of my neighbors pets (yorkie puppy, 7 chickens, two cats...) its really sad. I saw bones on my neighbors yard, I picked them up, put them at the front step, and left a note…

We're short on lighting, too, since our yard is to the side of the house and not directly behind our porch.

One way that I got rid of a coyote was to make sure that my trash cans were only put out only when the trash was being picked up. I then made sure that I put up any food that was left outside for my outside dog. This coyote had kind of a routine and would come every few days....I then caught him one day and peppered him with paintballs and have never seen him since. A good scare will make him remember not to come back.

Yea that is what usually happens... One coyote comes up to the patio, lures Alex to the back of the tennis court behind the trees, where there are others waiting... Its really scary. We don't have a bright light out there and we cant see behind the tennis court from our window...

One last thing, up here a female coyote will try to approach a dog in order to lure it away from the home. Other coyotes who are hiding will then ambush it.

One night a winter or two ago up here in Gunnison, we let Ronan out for his last pee. A few minutes later he started barking before we could even see anything. Then we saw a coyote heading down our street closing the distance to our fenced yard by approaching in a semi-circular pattern. Luckily it went away when my husband ran outside. I think that corgis look deceptively attainable to coyotes -- Ronan's size hides his muscle strength and sturdiness (so I don't think the coyote would have been able to carry him away, but Ronan would have been pretty bad off). Ever since then we've tried to let Ronan out closer to 8:30 pm in the winter and keep an eye on him. If you have a bright porch light, that's also helpful. there's a huge coyote problem…tag:mycorgi.com,2009-01-19:1150197:Comment:2905752009-01-19T22:18:21.808ZJessicahttp://mycorgi.com/profile/Jessica97
there's a huge coyote problem where we are too. my friend has a pug and can't let her out alone. even when she takes her out she's forced to carry a pellet gun (with plastic pellets) just incase. its unfortunate that harming them is illegal, not that I enjoy hurting them. our best defense is an electric fence that lightly shocks them when they attempt to come into the yard. I'd suggest that, but its a bit pricey. just make sure you can keep an eye on your animals when they're outside and keep…

Thanks everyone.... The problem is that in my district, it is illegal to relocate the coyotes... it makes no sense to me. But it is illegal to do "anything that could be potentially harmful to a coyote (kill, relocate, poison etc.) unless they attack a human." I would never want to hurt the coyotes, just put them in a better area
