Thank you all so much for your insight! I fed Zelda chicken and rice this morning which she kept down no problem, so I fed her the other half this evening. She is in high spirits and couldn't wait to eat the food I cooked, I could tell she was starving after not having anything in her stomach yesterday. I definitely think she'll be fine! Thanks again :)

The one thing I will advise...make sure the stool is clean. Have a culture done just to be sure. Even if you had one done 14 days ago. These are typical signs of some intestinal parasites like Giardia. Otherwise..instead of pepto, use pepcid, its safer. You can add pedialyte to the water to add electrolytes that are being lost w/the vomitting and diarrhea and prevent dehydration. You can offer the pedialyte popcicles too. You can give yogurt to help bring the intestinal tract back to health for maximum absorption of healthy nutrients. Bland diet for a couple of days. Check their temp. I do hope he/she feels better. With vomitting everything up for 2 days I would be careful and might be best to have them looked at. Are you sure they didn't swallow anything that could be causing a blockage...this can kill your dog. My Corgi Bertie has gotten really bad stomach viruses (or something) several times, and we never figured out the cause (no parasite, didn't eat anything that I know of, etc.). I agree with the above advice -- also, you can give dogs a little Pepto (Bertie HATES it) or I also use Immodium (pills) to calm their tummies. Within 2 days or so, she should be able to keep the bland food Geri & Sidney suggest down. Also, while she's still ill, make sure she's getting some fluids to keep her from…

Within 2 days or so, she should be able to keep the bland food Geri & Sidney suggest down. Also, while she's still ill, make sure she's getting some fluids to keep her from getting dehydrated (check her gums to see if they are getting dry/tacky, that's a clue she's dehydrated). Give her ice chips or some very plain chicken broth (no salt/spices, etc.). If she is getting dehydrated, please take her to the vet, as that's not good for them (even though the tummy problems may well just resolve on their own). Hi, yes it happens often with our great dane Joni, she has a very delicate stomach and although she will eat anything and everything, we are very careful about what we feed her, she will throw up and have bowel probs at the drop of a hat! Being a great dane only Magnifies the issue! I don't think that dogs especially get contagious stomach bugs like people do (not 100% sure about that). Joni will eat a ton of grass when her tummy is upset and that makes her throw up and that's how she manages her own tummy aches. Dog do occasionally eat things that make them sick, such as frogs, trash (aluminum foil, plastic, etc..) and plants that are toxic. I believe it is pretty natural for dogs to get sick occaionally and they are wise enough to know how to handle it. If the problem lasts more than 2 days, you may need additional help. Sure, I see this from time to…tag:mycorgi.com,2009-03-07:1150197:Comment:3428632009-03-07T20:42:28.577ZGeri & Sidneyhttp://mycorgi.com/profile/GeriSidney
Sure, I see this from time to time, most recently in Chester, our lab/dane.
Give your GSD plain steamed rice and boiled chicken for about 3-4 days. Hopefully after that he'll be just fine. Keep an eye on him and make sure he has good energy and drinks enough water.
