Mac recently got evaluated to become a therapy dog and have applied thru TDI...he's waiting for approval and ID badge before going to work! We cant wait!! :o)
Hi!
Could you tell me where did Lola get her CGC training and certified? I don't know when we'll be able to attend our next meetup as Mac is spending his summer break with his "grandparents" (my parents :o). Hope to you you both next time!
I just joined this website and remembered we met at one of the Tampa corgi meetup. How's Lola? My corgi's name is Mac.
I've wanted to enroll Mac in some sort of pet therapy class as he has a good tempermant for it. At one point there was a meet-up group in Tampa but I can't seem to find it again on their website.
Hope to meet you and Lola again on the next meetup!
I like the Delta society orientations and find it more comprehensive than some of the other organizations that just have you do a trial visit and then bam, you're certified. It might seem easier but you don't get a good idea of all the rules/regs involved in going into clinical environments and the liability you have as the handler. You can do the Delta course at home and then be evaluated as a team. Our evaluator is ill now and won't be able to evaluate here in Tampa for a while so we're trying to get a new one trained.
Hi! I saw your comment about therapy groups in the Tampa Bay Area. The training school I work for has a wonderful group of therapy dogs and can give you good advice on how to get started and the best places to begin visiting once you've passed an evaluation test. We used the Delta Society evaluation test and find it really useful.
Dog training clubs are usually a good place to start. Many folks take obedience classes and get a CGC or Canine Good Citizen certification on their dog. Some clubs offer training for therapy work and have an evaluator come to certifiy dogs at the end of the class. There are several therapy certifications. I was certified through Therapy Dogs International. Best of luck.
Hi Natalya, Thanks for the compliment on Lance. : ) Yes he is a Blue Merle Cardi! Did you grow up hearing the Natalie Wood joke a million times in your lifetime....I did, it got old real quick! Lola is adorable and love her name! It is so much fun watching them grow up! Have a good night....Natalie
