I can't come tomorrow afterall! I'm so sorry :( But my boyfriend has been overseas on a work trip for a month and I just found out today that he'll be home tomorrow morning, early. I think some other people are going though so please don't postpone the even on my account. We'll definitely reschedule!
Hi Virginia,
Howie and I are going to the Wickham dog park again this Saturday with my neighbor and her corgi mix! I'm not sure about a time yet but I was thinking a little later in the day.. maybe like 1. Any chance you and your pups want to meet up?
Hi Virginia! It was nice to meet you last weekend. Sorry again that we were running a little late. The other corgi never showed up but Howie, my boyfriend, and I stayed for 3 hours! Hope to have another playdate soon. We are going to go to the Central FL meetup on the 21 in Sanford if you're interested.
Hi Virginia....how are your babies? How is Yogi liking his cart? We got Cobi his cart in late November and he really has been doing well with it. Since being in the cart he has actually started moving his rear legs more, can't walk on his own but we don't have to use the stirrups anymore. Now we just need to find some better protection for his feet when in the cart and he drags them on walks. we have tried a couple of things that didn't work to well. Have you used any booties, if so what have you found to work best? Gail
Thanks. We think she is pretty. My parents PWC, Punch is a big boy too but not fat. Where in FL are you? We had hoped to be down there in Nov to go the corgi round up.
I decided to order Snoops a custom cart. He got it last week, but we have had company and not a whole lot of time for working on it. He is not a huge fan so far. Hopefully that will change. He really likes the bottoms up leash. I think because I have to go everywhere with him. He can still move his legs around, so I almost prefer it to the cart because it gets his whole body moving around.
Hi Virginia ~ I noticed your comments on Kathryn & Snoops page regarding Yogis diagnosis of DM and hope you don't mind me asking you some questions. You say that Yogi had 2 spinal surgeries that did not help. Did he have tests that showed disk problems that led the vet to do the surgeries? What did they find when they did the surgery? My 11 yr old Cobi has seen two vets this week, one a specialist and they both feel he has a degenerative disk disease not DM but he has been on steroids for over a week with no improvement and the specialist is not sure surgery would help him due to his age, and his epilepsy etc. Cobi's regualr vet wants to wait on the cart and see if we can rehabilitate him, so rest for 2 weeks and then reevaluate. He is unable to walk on his own without the help of the bottoms up leash, which we are only to use to take out to potty, ok to massage and move both rear legs while laying down. We want to get him up and in a cart and feel his mental state would improve. This has been so difficult to watch him not be able to walk and play, he always looks so sad.
I am afraid to invest in a cart and have him not use it.
He came from a breeder but is not registered. We don't have any idea of their lineage either. My mom met her at a dog show. Her husband had been the corgi breeder and she bred some toy breed. The busband had died and there was some disagreement with the other breeder of the last corgi litter. She had 2 corgis left from the litter and the other breeder made off with 4. She had 16 dogs and was not able to take care of them all. I can't even remember if we paid her anything, I think maybe just to cover shots. They were both underfed, filthy and starving for attention. They are both sweet and sassy, and I don't think they were ill treated, just neglected. My mom has the female and I have the male. Does that count as a rescue?
Hi Viriginia. How is the wheel chair working out for Yogi? My Snoops is having back problems and has terrible nerve damage in one leg. He has been doing the drunken sailor walk for several months, but wasn't bothered by it, but this past weekend we saw a big decline. He is dragging the back leg and using the other to scoot. He is on another round of prednisone, but the vet doesn't expect it to help. He is almost 13 and I don't want to explore surgery. We are thinking about the cart option. Where did you end up buying from, andy helpful tips would be appreciated!
so sorry to hear about Yogi's illness. I noticed that you have a 38 lb Corgi. We have a nine year old Cardigan who is 47 lbs and is fit and not considered overweight by the vet. He has a very large bone structure. Hope you can find a wheelchair soon! Joy and Baby Butter
Welcome Virginia, Yogi and Mavis. Good to have you here. Sorry to hear about Yogi's DM. Tough news, but you will find some good support from members here. I admire the work you are doing to help dogs find forever homes. Rescue is a great option!
No problem, and thanks! I've always loved the name Shelby. I guess when I grow up and have kids, that I can't name one Shelby. Shelby and Lindsey are some of my favorite names. That's cool about being a teacher. I either want to be a novelist, an executive chef, a lawyer, or all three!
Welcome to Mycorgi!!! Yogi and Mavis are goregous. Corgis always seem to make cute puppy and handsome dogs. It's nice to see some people rescue dogs from shelters. I don't have the heart to ( I'd bring home every dog there, my parent's woundn't be too thrilled about that!). Someday I may adopt an ex-racing Greyhound. Extremely sorry to hear about Yogi's disease. I ahd to check it out on Wikipedia to understand what it is. While reading about it, my heart broke into little bitty pieces. Then, imagining what that must be like, crushed the little pieces and made little particles of dust.
