In the early stages of writing/illustrating a children's book based on Corgi lore!!!

Hello everyone! i hope y'all had a very lovely Christmas, I know I did! I just wanted to share with you guys something i have been thinking a lot about doing, but never really started until now. ever since i got my corgi, Daxter, i've read folk tales about where the corgi breed came from. there is one tale in particular that always caught my attention as a great idea for a children's book. i wrote down the preliminary story (my own version) a while back, but never really did anything with it. well, i came across it this weekend as i was moving things over to my new computer. i decided to try and come up with at least one illustration to get the mental juices flowing. this is what i came up with today:

I know the faerie needs some work (i used the wrong kind of paper for the kind of paint i was using so my paper began to warp) she's a bit flat and deformed at the moment, but i feel like the corgi looks okay (his front legs may need a bit of work). anywho, just wanted to throw this out there. any constructive criticism is welcome, and appreciated!!! hope everyone has a great day and thanks for checking out my first illustration concept for my children's book!!

Comment by Judith Andre on December 28, 2011 at 8:05pm: Very cute. I am an artist, though not a painter, if that means anything. I agree, I think the chest/front legs need work. The main criticism of the fairy would be the arm/hand placement. Awkward and kind of oddly disappearing. Maybe you have trouble painting hands and avoid them? Seem to be one of the hardest things to get right. Love the expression on the Corgi's face and I think his nose is just fine. A great idea for a children's book. Maybe you might want at least a "horizon line" to kind of ground it.

Comment by Snickmom on December 28, 2011 at 9:57am: Very nice. I like that the lines are clean and simple. I don't think the books by Tasha Tudor are illustrated for young children. Your corgi's front ruff and saddle are perfect. (that fold of skin on the shoulder). My first impression was that his nose was a little long and pointy, but then that's just compared to my dog. I love your fairy's dress, it is just right. Keep up the good work!

I have a print-out from the original site (PWCCA website) that has more pics and tells the whole story, but I can't find the site now. The model looked so much like my Lilliput that I told my granddaughter that it WAS Lilliput with her fairy friends :) She almost believed it.
