I was feeling discouraged. Hunting for the healthy Pembroke puppy with a tail is a tiring task. I was talking to my sister about just rescuing, I already have guilt for going with a breeder. Maybe my first dog is not supposed to be the dream dog. Maybe I am supposed to adopt some LA puppy. And maybe I am.

But then I ran into a corgi.

It's name was bubbles. Bubbles balanced treats on his head, he high fived with both stubs, he put his head in my lap when I petted him.

Thanks Bubbles, for the push.

Maybe I won't find my dream corgi with a tail, but now I know I will still be getting a corgi.

....I think I will find my dream dog.

If it helps...

This is where we got Gilby from, they are wonderful breeders.  Gilby is a beautiful, healthy, amazing, smart, all around wonderful corgi!  They are in Minnesota, but they will ship your corgi, and will not dock the tail upon request.  I have seen this happen with them before.  You can hold a puppy with $100 deposit, and just request no docked tail.  Maybe this helps?  And good luck to you!

Jane - No, Bubbles wasn't up for adoption but just the corgi I needed to see to reassure me that a corgi is the right dog. I don't see enough corgis around and was starting to feel maybe a pound puppy would be better. Why spend the money if I don't intend to show?
-Because I LOOOOVE corgis.
I will certainly be still getting a corgi. I have high high high hopes I will get the one with a tail ;)

But like Nicholas said - I am really set on getting a puppy. I will rescue, I know that. But not yet. I want to make sure I can raise a happy healthy social dog before rescuing one. I have been waiting to get a dog until I had the time to have a puppy. I am sooooo looking forward to that puppy trails and tribulations.
Pound puppy, corgi with no tail, or corgi with a tail. I am getting me a puppy!!

Yet, I have a bit of the stubborn corgi streak myself and refuse to believe I can't get the dream dog (regardless of the 30+ rejections over the past 2 weeks)

You should not feel guilt for going with a breeder... especially seeing as it is your first dog.  Being able to grow and learn with your puppy will give you the skills needed in working with dogs, knowing what makes them tick, and learning about training and handling.  If you just decide to up and rescue, with no prior dog experience, there is the chance it may not be a good situation for a dog that needs help/has issues, because you haven't the learned the skills necessary to help them through.

So is Bubbles a Corgi up for adoption? I have 2 rescues out of the 4 I rescued myself that will live the rest of their life with me. They are my" heart dogs" and I believe they know they were "saved" . They are the the least demanding and very loving as they almost "know" I saved them. Jennifer Markley has Jackson who was also one of the 4 and he now is living the "good life" in IA. Never underestimate the satisfaction of adopting a corgi in need as you will be thankful everyday when they let you know how important you are.

Your dream corgi will show up when you least expect it and in a form you never thought you wanted.  The last thing I wanted was a long haired dog...no way, now how.  Than along came Max...a fluffy.  Is he my dream dog...you bet he is.

Listen to your heart.
