I agree with the benadryl...and you can ask your vet for the amout for his weight...my Livvy bit a bee and that was the 1st thing I did was to give the benadryl...just incase and I had a pup that had a reaction to her shots after she left and I notified all my owners about this with the suggestion to let their vet know but to also purchase benadryl(I use generic...and make sure it has no extras) per my vets suggestion. It comes in handy as you never know what our little friends can get into!

So glad to hear you went to the emergency vet. Poor guy. I'm sure he'll be his old self in no time. It's amazing what they get themselves into.

I took him to the emergency vet. They said he must have gotten into something on his walk last night and was having an allergic reaction. He had to have an IV of an anti histamine and an anti inflamitory. He is asleep next to me now. They said he is going to be super sleepy for the next day or two but he is going to be just fine. Thank goodness.

Do you have any Benedryl? You could give him one dose and see if the swelling starts to go down. I would worry about the swelling around the nose area and the Benedryl may help. I agree with Beth. It sounds as if he was nosing in something and got some ant bites or nettles stings.

Carolyn, if it is worrying you guys and you know something does not seem right take him to your local emergency vet, especially since it seems he's had some other problems. They will put you at ease if nothing else!!!

Hmmm. Did you have him anywhere where he might have gotten into some vegetation? I don't know what kin of creepy crawlies or vegetation you have down there in your no-freeze zone, but could he have been poking around in some kind of nettles? Been bitten by fire ants? Poked his face into a ground-nesting bees' nest and gotten stung?

I worry about any swelling around the face, in human or animal, with the fear that if the face is swelling, air passages might be too. Is there a 24-hour emergency vet in your area? I'm not really familiar with what else besides bites or picking plants, or allergies, might cause swelling in the face area. Does he have any other symptoms? Weeping eyes? Rapid breathing? Does his nose feel hot? Most bites and stings are just a nuisance, but some are poisonous and require first aid.
