THANK YOU to everyone for your support and comments; I do feel better about the whole thing; just needed to get it into perspective (that is from my dog's perspective). (BTW - Love the comment about the Godiva chocolate! And Cristy, you win the prize for persistence!) As for ducks/geese (the instructor also suggested we try him on ducks), he's shown no interest in chasing the Canadian geese who hang out in the field near my house (he does like sneaking to eat goose poo though). ;)
I love Jonny to pieces and yes, we will find something else for him to do - he's attending CGC classes now, which I hope will lead to therapy work. He's just so athletic and loves to run...maybe agility or rally when he's older?

(Oh, and Tegan's mom, please let me know how it goes this weekend! Yes, it was lots of fun, especially for both my Cardis.)

As smart as Sparty is I am sure he would find the poo way more interesting than chasing a bunch of sheep. Oh well, we all have our talents..

Hmmmmm.... I feel like I'm reading our future. Tegan is going to an herding instinct test next Saturday. Perhaps she will also enjoy a sheep poo buffet. :) I hope you at least had fun -- it sounds like Jon Farleigh did!

Don't worry Jordan was a grand failure on sheeps and duckie's he hid behind me in sheer terror for 8 lesson's before the trainer suggested we just weren't going to be herders. But on the flip side he is a grand day camper at his daycare =)

Wynn is great at chickens....so that's almost a goose???? Sorry we all have hopes and like you said they can get cut! Glad he enjoyed his pooey treat!

When people raise working stock dogs, they introduce them to stock in a certain sort of way, at certain ages. Also, with pets we tend to discourage chasing behavior in puppies which can make them think chasing stuff is bad.

I agree he might like ducks better. Historically Corgis were not considered very good on sheep anyway; they were cattle drovers and geese dogs. My understanding is there is no dog better on geese than a good Corgi.

Don't loose hope. You should try him on ducks. Many corgis I have seen at herding that have no interest in sheep will totally turn on to ducks. It's like a little light goes on and they are totally working them. Ashton thinks ducks are particularly fun to herd since they quack, flap around and are more "corgi" sized. lol :)

I'll bet he is still a GREAT corgi. He's really a beautiful baby. Maybe he's sensitive to the feelings of the sheep and doesn't want to upset them!
