Hello to all.  I have a question about Corgis.  I recently got a corgi mix from a rescue and notice that he like to drag his legs a bit.  He is quick to sit down(kinda over on his hip and it both sides that he does this.  When he sits down and you call him over instead of getting up he will just pull himself over to you if its only a few feet, If im about 7ft or so he will walk over that flop back onto his hip.  I just wrote the rescue to see if they noticed this problem.  He does fine running around at the dog park playing with the other dogs big and small but he does sit down alot. I dont know what kind of exercise he was getting at the rescue but for the past week he has been playing at the dogpark for a few hours everyday.  Do you think he is maybe just overworked his little legs? it the lazy slide a thing that Corgis do?Im gonna call the vet to see if I need x-rays or whatever.  he is long bodied so Im praying it not nerve problems/hip issues as he is only 7 months old.  thank you all for your input.

got a vet appt next tuesday for Jax. I have been watching him run, play, wrestle, jump, swim and dig and all seems fine. he doesnt favor one side or the other, doesn't do the bunny hop(only when playing in the water) no signs of pain. I can move his legs thru full r.o.m..  So im thinking this might be just he little quirky thing.  I still keep my eye of his movement and im not letting him jump as least as possible. I will most definetly mention my concern to the vet when I go.  thank you all for your responses.

Jane unfortuantelty I do not have a video cam and my phone doesnt take video either.  I took a few pics to show how he sits. its strange, he plays fine, chaces balls, wrestles other dogs and even when swimming for the first time today where he was tearing into the water bounding away. I notice when he went into the water he even tries to sit down(all that happened was his butt floated up) I should also mention that I have pergo floors throughout my house and it could be easiser to just slide a short distant then get up...any ways i attached a few pics of his usual eating positon where you can see how he like to sit.

Any chance you could get a video or pic? I personally would get him checked out by a vet, maybe they could move up your appointment.

Hey Sam, he doesnt do it laying in thr prone, more like in a lazy sit positon..kinda like the way puppies sit more on there hips. Elizabeth, he isnt dragging his butt more like his hip on the side. But he still runs fine and is able to jump up on the bed.  I have been teaching him sit and down with treats as a reward right now...maybe he is sliding over in the sit because he is waiting for a treat? even so I feel that he sits all the time..example: when the other dogs at the park are waiting for a new one to come in all are standing and he usually is sitting.  when playing I do notice his bback legs tend to get knocked over easily or when another dog (similiar size) jump on his back/hips area he sits right down.  I called the rescue and they said they didnt notice anything but couldnt really pay that much attention because he was in a kennel with other dogs. I also called the vet that the rescue got him from and they seems more annoyed that I was calling and were no help at all.  I also called my vet(who has yet to see him, first appt is in 2 weeks) and descriped to them was was happening and said it didnt seem like a emergency because he is still playing and doesnt appear to be in any pain. and to tell the vet at his first check up your concerns. they also mentioned I could give him a buffered asprin. It just worrys me because I just had to put my 12 1/2 yo rottwieler down because of bad hips, arthritis, and S.L.O. and I really dont wanna see this little guy suffer the same or know that fate of the limping around is to come at such a young age.  I hope im just being over worried.* fingers crossed *

Hi Paul, you're talking about Dragging in the prone position right? it happens alot, usually in the hot climate with tongue sticking out, nothing to worry about.

You might have the same issue our puppy seems to have: Overactive anal glands. Our Ani scoots around on her butt a lot and when we mentioned this to people, they told us about the anal glands. (In fact, I'd just barely made my blog entry about it when I saw yours.) Apparently you can get the vet to do it or do it yourself, but their glands need to be squeezed out. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm told it's fairly gross, and one of my friends always makes his vet do it for his dachshunds. But one of my coworkers says she just does her own dogs. It's a small breed issue.

Since our dog is also nipping her flank, we had to rule out worms, fleas, and coccidea, but she's taken a flea-and-deworming agent, so it seems to be active anal glands. Husband's taking her to the vet today where he will learn this exciting (not!) new treatment. Hopefully we can fix it before Ani has to wear The Cone of Shame.

I agree with Melissa, I would talk to a vet. Henry does the "lazy sit" where he kind of leans to one side but dragging the back legs isn't normal IMO.

Franklin sits down a lot too, but he doesn't really do the dragging thing. It could be a variety of things but I think calling your vet would be the best idea just to make sure there isn't anything wrong. It could be he is just sore from playing so hard after having a fairly sedentary life. The vet can decide what's best.
